I can't in good conscience give this game a good review, but I also can't give it a poor review. It's times like this I wish Steam had a middle-ground review option. This game was very fun and scratched an itch I didn't know I had. However, labeling it as an investigation game or describing it the way it does is misleading. Yes, there is some investigation, but there's really only one singular crime to solve. The storyline is very linear and easy to guess. If it were marketed as a game about solving a singular crime, that would be accurate, but it misleads you in the description by stating, 'Investigate mysterious crimes. Use cutting-edge FDI software to dig for clues, solve puzzles, and uncover the truth.' This is incorrect. You only use most of the 'software' exactly once, after implying you should read the extensive manual that comes along with it. This is a game that you could probably finish within 2-3 hours, which also doesn't justify its price. Honestly, they could have dropped the mid-tier storyline and just made a game along the lines of Criminal Minds or CSI, where you use these tools to try to solve cases, and it would be infinitely more fun. I know I'm probably the outlier here with my review, and I will say I did enjoy what they had, but it just wasn't what they promised in their wording and descriptions (maybe I misunderstood some stuff, who knows). There does seem to be an open door for expansions in the future, but if they're along the same timeframe as this game and offer only 2-3 hours of playtime, they should drastically reduce the price because as it stands, it felt like an expensive tech demo.Show moreShow less
i got this game for free on Epic Games, and then i played it, and felt bad for not paying for it, so i got here and payed for it.. good story, nice puzzles, outstanding characters + sound + character relation buildups. the only cons is that its a short game, 9.5/10Show moreShow less
Good, but far too short. When the game had finished, it felt like I had just completed the tutorial, I was just getting the hang of all the things I had access to... and then it... ends... abruptly. The quality is amazing, but there is just not enough content. Just enough content to put you over the 2 hours refund window, but not enough to really be worth it for the price. I was going to give this a thumbs up, but I think I'll stick to my first though of a thumbs down... Zero replayability (other than achievements) and just enough content to stop people refunding... I don't want to see more "released" games like this on the market.Show moreShow less
Satisfies my brain worm in the same way Curse of the Golden Idol and Return of the Obra Dinn didShow moreShow less
I wish Steam had a mixed option, because as someone who was expecting more puzzles and less story from the game I can't recommend it, but if you're looking for a well-done, ~3 hour long visual novel it's quite well made (the developers deserve some praise for the X-Files inspirations).Show moreShow less
Okay, while I said I liked this game, I think in terms of recommendation, this is more a "maybe" than an outright "yes." There are several things to consider before you purchase this one, and while I ultimately think you'll enjoy the experience either way, you may be slightly frustrated by at least one or two of these points. I know I was. (-) First, the game is short. It took me less than 4 hours to finish it, and that's with several long cut scenes. Speaking of those cut scenes... pay attention to them. I didn't, because some of them seemed pointless, and that led me to the only time I felt truly stuck in this game LOL. (+) You play as an operator in the FDI, and the entire gameplay involves sitting in front of your computer, connecting dots, and solving puzzles. I absolutely loved it. It was fresh and interesting, and the feeling of things connecting and unraveling was really fun. I actually wish we had more of it—I would've gladly played more hours of more cases, slowly connecting them to this huge conspiracy. It made me hope that someone would make an entire mystery murder game (as opposed to a conspiracy) as "the guy in the chair," slowly unraveling everything and helping the "heroes" solve the mystery. (-/+) For a game that's sitting in front of your computer... the stakes are high and so is the tension. I actually got really anxious at parts, in a way that doesn't really happen with most games because, the way everything is set up, WE are Tenner. So I felt like there was a gun aimed at me at times, LOL. For me, this was a point in favor of the game, but if you're looking for a more relaxed experience, this may not be it. (-/+) The ending. Personally? Not a fan. Oh, I loved the reveal. The minute I started connecting the dots, my stomach dropped. 10/10 for that. But everything after that?... I will be playing the next game, if there is one, but overall, I am not really the kind of person to enjoy an "everybody died" ending. After all the brilliant puzzle solving, I wanted these characters to have a good ending. I have seen people talk about how this was actually a good ending - how Hal is still thwarting the organization 30 years later, and that's realistic and optimistic but damn. I got attached to these characters. I wanted to see them happy, even if we fail to totally crush the bad guys in the end of the game. And I wanted to understand what the goal of the "bad guys" in this game is, and I don't. They're evil people, but... why are they doing what they're doing? No clue. Which is another thing I don't like. For me, a game needs to be able to stand on its own, even if it's part of a larger narrative. Essentially, this felt like a game meant to set up another game, and truthfully, I don't like that.Show moreShow less
This is an ok story game, but it's definitely not a 'detective' type game like I assumed. It's a railroady, handholdy type game that barely lets you discover anything. If you click the wrong thing it immediately tells you. If you want a short 'walking simulator' type game, where you essentially watch a mystery unfold, then this might be for you. If you're expecting to solve cases, you might want to pass.Show moreShow less
I just finished it and I think I need to sit down for like a few days. So good! Amazing storytelling. Kind of wish there was an endless mode to the job part though.Show moreShow less
It's well made, and I enjoyed it, but I don't think it has enough substance for full price. The gameplay feels like Orwell in a way. The narrative is good, though your choices don't really matter, and it's way too short. Like a prologue to a bigger story. It ends right as things start getting interesting, and the ending itself feels like a second Act was starting before the rest of the game got cut. It's not a bad game, but I completed it feeling uncertain that I'd got my money's worth, even at the discounted price. If steam had an option between recommending and not I'd select that instead.Show moreShow less
