Everything that made the previous Room games interesting was sort of sucked out of this one - which isn't helped by the unskippable transition sequences. Since you're moving between small rooms of a dollhouse, you lose many of the large-scale, intricate machines and cool set locations that you'd typically associate with the previous games. You've got places like the Kitchen, the Study, the Art Studio, the Garden, the Japanese Gallery, etc... sort of generic compared to solving a miniature ship puzzle while being on a larger ship, or messing around in ancient pyramid-style ruins, or solving steampunk-style contraptions from within nether-realm portals, or using huge telescopes and admiring elaborate solar system models that fill the room, or solving puzzles on a model town throughout three floors of a castle, or exploring a belltower, etc. All that cool stuff is gone this time around. The puzzles are linear and require little effort, e.g. pick up pipe from one room to replace missing pipe segment in another room. Some won't mind the simplicity, but I am wondering why they dropped the difficulty level down so much. It's the easiest Room game to date. And while the graphics are great as always, I really wish they would add an option to skip room transition sequences, which hinder the experience after being forced to sit through the same animation for the 30th time during the now-very-frequent backtracking puzzles. I didn't mind the transition issues as much in The Room 3 because they were only apparent during a few select puzzles, but in The Room 4, they're really in your face. For this reason alone, I'm giving this game the thumbs down. I'd gladly change the rating to a thumbs up if they added a skip option. But the lack of such a feature in a game where multiple room transitions are required is a big oversight to me. Even Cyan had this issue resolved with Riven and that was nearly 24 years ago. The rest of the game is fine otherwise, even if I don't happen to find it as compelling as the first three Room games.Show moreShow less
The Room 1: Boxes The Room 2: Rooms The Room 3: Confusion The Room 4: Room inside a room inside a room inside a room.. Every game has gotten better and every time it is a great time to figure out. I wish I could play through the games multiple times.Show moreShow less
Felt shorter and way easier than previous games. Considering it costs more im a bit dissapointed. I need a meh buttonShow moreShow less
Hand down one of my favorite puzzle game series. Fireproof need to come out with another Room game.Show moreShow less
The more I think about whether this game is good, the less I can reccomend it. The storyline felt weak, it's there, but felt more like an afterthought. The "puzzles" felt more like a "where's waldo" than actually solving puzzles. I beat the game in 4 and a half hours in a single livestreaming session without using any hints except for 1. Which wasted me 15 minutes of time because I overlooked a hidden thing somewhere. Again, "where's waldo". If you do consider this game to have "puzzles" they are extremely easy. And most puzzles were even solved before you could solve them because the missing "key" is just hidden in a different area. The atmosphere in the game is pretty great! game looks pretty as you'd expect from the series. But it did more to hinder gameplay than support it. making me feel as if the puzzling was nothing more than an after-thought when they were developing this game. The room 1,2 and 3 were great. The room 4 felt like it's a filler. If you want more of the room, this game will work, but it won't scratch the same itch. If the other games were a 9/10. Then this game is a 6/10. If this was a standalone game, I'd reccomend it. But as a sequel, it pales in comparison with its earlier games.Show moreShow less
The Room 5 please.Show moreShow less
In my opinion this is the weakest in the series and the first I am not sure I would recommend. The difficulty of the puzzles is about on par with the previous games (moderately easy, good for a casual puzzle player) but much more tedious. At any given point in the game you are working through 2 to 3 rooms simultaneously with handful of puzzles crossing between rooms. It makes the game much more focused on remembering what room you saw something in than in solving puzzles.Show moreShow less
Another exceptional entry in the Room series with incredible puzzle design that were logical but never frustrating. They took a different approach in gameplay by making the puzzles non-linear and having the entire game played in one single area with connecting "rooms". Items found in one room may have to be used in a different room to solve the puzzle. You explore eight rooms in total including my favorite one being the Japanese gallery due to the ingenious chain dragon puzzle and level design. The Room can be completed within 4-6 hours and has the option to turn the hint system off for all those hardcore puzzle enthusiasts. This game is a masterpiece (my favorite of the series) and everyone should give this a try. As much as I loved all of these puzzles, I had to give a negative review. This speaks for both the third and the fourth game in the series. Even though for someone without any medical condition as myself, the repetitive flashes between transitions had brought me physical discomfort, specially considering the overall relatively dark lighting in the scenes. I wish I could opt out of the transition of flashing white screen.Show moreShow less
