Its funny how people complain about there are no good games anymore and games contains micro-transactions but when a small studio try to do something for what games are about people starts comparing it when massive AAA titles. Thymesia stands on what it wants to offer calling it a dark souls/bloodborne/sekiro from Walmart is an insult to gaming community, people and youtubers who are doing this should be ashamed of themselves, pretty much every critic you will find are sold out douchebags who will never give a good game fair credit what they deserve until they fill there sacks with money. Thymesia is a very interesting and fun game that everyone should try it have some problems but its not game breaking and as the time progress they will eventually fix it. SUPPORT THE DEVS BY BUYING THIS GAME EDIT ABOUT THE GAME: PROS 1-The game runs solid 60 fps no frame drop.(Yes this in the list dont tell me that other games dont have optimization issue even on their recommended requirements list) 2-Combat is solid you will struggle first few hours of the game because of how precise the parry mechanism is and that is frustrating but you can later on unlock fast parry from the talent tree and it should be fine 3-Game is short only if you don't complete the side quest but side quest is essential to get a good ending and some of the most challenging bosses and fun content is there 4-Story is if not top tier but acceptable a/c to the lore of the game. 5-Works pretty well with standard mouse and keyboard. CONS: 1-Levels are extremely similar so it becomes confusing some time where you are heading, I recommend creating a single main quest with the level and adding all the other quest as optional as it will be simple instead of selecting it through menu. 2-No option to travel between bonfire so if you want to farm memory shards by fighting bosses you have to play through whole level 3-Fighting multiple enemies is a mess since area you fight in are so narrow and tight, there are no room of movement, unlocking bow early is must so you can take out enemies from distance. 4-There is no way to take out enemies with bow through a distance, most of the time the bow or feature will not reach the target and even if they land you have to go to them and finish them manually. 5-Enemies clip through walls during combat which does not break the combo but its annoying 6-The death blow cut scenes are fantastic but due to most enemies being in corner or while you are fighting them they will be clip to the wall the execution looks weird sometimes 7-The ending is disappointing with no cut scene i can understand they are under budget but this is a must feature that needs to be in the game because there are multiple endings so there should be at least a cut scene for the true ending. 8-The blocking in the game is useless as it works against the game lore so they need to remove it from talent tree. 9-If your pc crash there is a chance you can lose your save progress. Summary: The game is worth giving a try the problems are minor and combat is the highlight of the game its solid its responsive and it does what it promise.Show moreShow less
Review written after finishing the game, Score 6 /10 alot of potential but falls flat The Good: -Combat vs Enemies -Map design -Plenty of magic weapons The Bad: -Boss designs -Bosses force you to read in the middle of combat -3 areas total -5-6 hours of gameplay -one main weapon -no armor -no collectibles Clarification on the problem with bosses: Bosses are really fast, teleport all over the map and heal very quickly, resulting in most boss fights just being a button mash as you are racing against their health regen, removing all tactics and fun out of the fightShow moreShow less

I don't know what I was expecting really, but the whole experience was just very underwhelming. I feel like there's some good ideas here, but even those I don't think are all the way there. For example, when I first found the 'wound vs injury' mechanic I thought it was an interesting twist; effectively you wound the enemy with normal attacks and parries, then need to use a secondary weapon (plague claw) to make that damage stick, otherwise it recovers. How do you think the developers reflected this idea in gameplay? Perhaps bosses have attack patterns where they're sometimes in range of your sword, and sometimes in range on your claw, so mastering the game involves learning where both these openings lie? Or perhaps enemies behave differently when recovering from wounds, such that this mechanic makes fights more dynamic? No, in actuality the gameplay doesn't account for this mechanic at all, you could slot in enemies from any other soulslike and it wouldn't make a difference to how you play. More than anything it's just a seriously missed opportunity; it's a real shame that the largest change this game makes to the standard souls formula doesn't actually add anything substantial, or even require you to learn a new skill. My main issue though is really just the level and enemy design, it's just so... bland; it's functional, but lacklustre at best. The levels can basically be described by their theme, and that's about it; there's nowhere memorable on any of the levels, nothing remarkable in any sense, just a theme and then 'here are a set of paths/corridors, all in that particular theme, that connect the start of the level to the end'. Likewise the combat works but is just not really satisfying, there's very little weight to the vast majority of attacks and the enemy design is very simple. Then there's the length. Keep in mind here, my playtime also includes farming to fully upgrade two boss weapons, which I wouldn't have bothered with if I'd realised there's literally 3 levels which have a few quests in each (and then one final boss fight). Ultimately though, it's all these things in context of the price which is why I'm not recommending it. The game honestly feels more like a tech demo, like a first draft to say "we're thinking something along these lines"'; it really doesn't feel like an experience that should be valued at £20. Maybe if you ever see it 75% off on a steam sale it might be worth considering, but otherwise I'd give this a pass.Show moreShow less
After spending some time playing, this game feels more comparable to Bloodborne/Sekiro. I say that because the game really encourages aggressive fighting. Parrying is a huge focus and is a bit more forgiving like Sekiro was. The mechanics are a bit confusing at first but once you nail the rhythm, it really starts to come together. I will say there is VERY LITTLE staggering to enemies in this game so when you first start playing, you'll have to fight to urge to spam attacks and start finding openings. Pros: - Sound design is amazing and because of that, combat actually feels like you're hitting something. - Executions feels unique for each enemy (outside of trash mobs; they don't have an execution animation) - Game play feels relatively fluid. - Optimization is great. My criticisms: - No voice acting. I've never been a fan of having to read everything, but that could just be a me thing. - No gear/weapons to hunt for. Part of what makes these game replayable for many, is finding different weapons and gear to try. - No real variety with builds. You have three stats to choose from; Attack, Vitality and Plague (which is essentially magic which your green weapons use.) It's hard to give a concrete score because I haven't played the entirely of it. I also don't know how much this game is going to be when it releases and how much content actually exists. However from what I've played so far, it's about a 7/10 (after beating it, I still give it a 7/10). My advice is to take this review with a grain on salt, look up game play and come up with your own decision. "Fun" and "worth" are all subjective at the end of the day.Show moreShow less
After completing the game, I was left feeling incredibly disappointed. The short of it is that it feels unfinished, with the game basically being combat first and everything else never. For those who care about the long of it, I'll break it down while leaving out spoilers. Overall, I'd say that the combat is easily the best part, and even then I wouldn't even say it's anything extraordinary. The flow in a fight actually felt rather nice even if I got ganged up on. The animations in combat ranged from serviceable to actually pretty damn good. The strikes felt crunchy and some of the bosses were standouts, especially the first. I wouldn't say it was particularly difficult though. The most I died to a boss was maybe 4 or 5 times and that was to the first and third boss. Beyond that, I died at most twice to the final boss and not at all to any of the others, and when I died outside of bosses it actually felt like it was because I slipped up. The only issue is...the rest of the game. The upgrade system was tedious and very jarring at times. I had to actively remind myself to reave from enemies because once I got two specific powers, there was no reason to since everything else was far inferior. On top of that, enemies end up dropping skill shards for their power anyway which allowed you to permanently use it whenever, meaning if you really wanted to use it you would just...equip it. On the other hand, when it came to upgrading those powers I had to run the same mission to find the one or two enemies that dropped that power, and traversing the same path over and over again in an already short game gets annoying. In terms of potions, the game says that there are recipes and I never found any. I scoured every single one of the lore and story bits I had, of which were 22/22 and 86/94 respectively, in case there were secrets or maybe a puzzle. I checked the tutorial in case I missed something that was obviously explained. I scoured every corner of every map along my path and didn't find any sort of potion recipe tool. If there are recipes, I don't know how you get them. As for talents and levels, the game attempts to reward experimentation by allowing you to reset talents and even levels for your character on the fly. But, I didn't refund any of my talents or levels because there is very little reason *to* experiment. I either got lucky and found just the right build on my first try, or the upgrade system is just way too overtuned and caused me to have a power spike very early on with little to no decline. As for the maps, they are passable at best because they are all ruins of some sort. As a veteran of the Soulsborne series, having played Dark Souls 1, 2, & 3 with all of the DLC, Bloodborne plus the DLC, and Sekiro, I have explored my fair share of ruins. With that in mind, these are the most samey ruins I've ever explored. Half the time I got lost because I wanted to find secrets or lore bits, but when I tried to backtrack the levels snaked in on themselves and *everything looks the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ same*. So, I got lost, found one or two enemies, and became the most dangerous wandering meatgrinder this side of Hermes Kingdom. The music is passable. Nothing more to say. What I do have more to talk about is the story, or should I say the swiss cheese the game calls a story. The best way to describe it is incomplete. I have a general idea of what the world is like, but there are so many questions left unanswered and not in the good way. As a reminder, I have 22/22 of the lore bits and 86/94 of the story bits, according to the game. So if that's the case: 1) Why do I know next to nothing about the main character, Corvus? I have no idea who or what they were before the events of the game. I have no idea how they became what they are now or why they can do what they do. I have no idea what relationship this character has with the rest of the characters. I have a vague idea of when the prologue happens but beyond that, as a good friend of mine would say, I know two things: jack and ♥♥♥♥. 2) What even happened to kickstart the game? I have a vague idea based on the prologue and the text based dialogue because *there is no voice acting*, but we aren't even given a year. The dates provided in game are literally X X. The main event is referred to as "the accident". The people that supposedly caused the event show up a total of twice: Once in the prologue, and then the second when you fight them. There no precursor to that showdown at all! Beyond that, there is a machine that is barely explained and exists essentially as a way to end the game, there is a theme of alchemy that asks a lot of interesting questions but provides no answers to any of them, and there are a lot of loose ends and unfulfilled promises by the time the credits roll, which also just happens abruptly. 3) Why do I not care about any of the characters, even the one I'm *playing as*? Usually with games that leave things vague, there are background details that shed light on the context and provide reasoning for not only the character's purpose but also their personality, actions, and history. There is none of that here. Even when one character specifically talks about the bosses, I learn next to nothing beyond the bare minimum. None of the bosses have voice acting, and the bosses that have dialogue are so dry that I forget what they say when the text fades off the screen and it's not just because it happens in the middle of the fight when staying alive is my top priority. Lastly, there are also so many small things that drag the experience down. As I mentioned, there is no voice acting. Outside of bosses, the dialogue is all in boxes the way it is usually done. However, in boss fights the dialogue is just at the bottom of the screen in a faded color that blends in with the rest of the arena. On top of that, the dialogue shows up as the boss is going. So either you have to pay attention to the fight or you have to read the text. You can't do both effectively. On top of that, when you win the fight there is no fanfare. No "victory achieved" or "prey slaughtered". The fight just ends and the music cuts abruptly, leaving a hollow feeling where there should be pure dopamine. As for bugs, there are quite a few. I've seen enemies slide in place at times, and I got hard stuck on terrain during a fight, which I had to solve by quitting back to main menu and trying again. The most egregious of these small issues for me had to be in the ending, where one ending just...didn't want to be selected. I clicked on it and then the game blacked it out like it was selected, but told me to pick something else. These aren't big things on their own, but cumulatively they take away from the experience in a very noticeable way. I see a lot of people say that the game is way too short and while I do agree the game is short, that isn't necessarily a flaw in and of itself. There are games that are short, but make great use of their time and deliver something that still has punch. However, there are so many flaws that I can't help but feel like the game should have stayed in development for longer to work out the kinks and make the experience smoother. This is a title that could have been something great if there was a little more care put into its development. I'm sure there are reasons as to why it happened, because nothing in this game screams to me that this is a cash grab. A genuinely honest attempt was made but I feel like, whether it was because of time, money, or burnout, the game falls too short for me to really have any feeling but just sheer disappointment. Edit: I actually looked a little into the ending and realized I just missed the fact that the ending is based on two choices not just one. So, what happened made sense and was, in fact, not a bug. Still didn't make the ending any less abrupt.Show moreShow less

Decent enough game but not for me. Initially I wanted to recommend it to fans of Sekiro, but after reading some of the other negative reviews, it seems there are quite a few Sekiro fans not liking this either. I don't really know why I'm not enjoying it. Perhaps it's the lack of diversity when it comes to playstyles. Perhaps it's the double health bar thing. It felt like a grind. It's not like the souls games are a breeze. But I love them. When I get stuck, I usually change my strategy. Heavy armor + shield. Naked and fast roll. Whatever it takes. And I feel great and accomplished. I feel like I gained a new skillset to use going forward. In Thymesia, I just got really frustrated with the enemies and esp bosses as it seemed they each demanded a specific response. I learned how to parry the first boss even though I'm not a parry person. So I overcame the challenge but it didn't feel good? Make it make sense.Show moreShow less

Having played up to the first boss, I can acclaim that the game while good, has a serious flaw. It tries to take what makes sekiro and bloodborne unique, but fails due to taking only the negatives. All enemies have two HP bars(Some special enemies also have unlimited HP) that you must get with of to kill them. The problem comes from trying to drain the second bar(Wound). You can completely remove the first HP bar, and hit them a dozen times while only doing small chip damage, and then watch their HP rapidly heal for any of the wound bar remaining. To remove the wound bar faster, you must do plague attacks. This is a good idea on the surface, but ultimately fails as the plague attacks are not balanced correctly at all. While giving you "super armor"(Super poise) you cannot be knocked out of the attack, however, the enemies can constantly hit you non-stop, often reducing your hp low before you get the shot off. Against bosses, this becomes improbable to do, as for the one hit you get in, the non-staggering boss will hit you 5+ times, including with some attacks that stun or lock you out of your attack. Another issue that arises is the parry system. Parrying an enemy does not really accomplish anything except for negating the damage. It does not even stun the enemy(who can also parry you, which does stun you) and allows them to continue to attack over and over. The enemies also tend to have faster attacks then your parry, which means that parrying one attack will still result in you being hit by the next(and stun locked for the set). Dodging works well, but you are not always immune to damage while dodging, and due to the hitboxes of some enemies(such as spear enemies, or bosses), you often will still get hit after dodging the attack(even though the weapon doesn't come close to hitting you. Furthermore, bosses have attacks that cannot be dodged, parried or blocked, and the only way to avoid it is to "be far enough away" which is easier said then done as the attacks often reach triple the distance of your dodge, while having a very quick charge time. Ultimately, playing the game begins to quickly feel more like a chore, then it does a challenge. The small area's and not many secrets, combined with the duplicate enemies leads to the game quickly becoming boring, as well as a grind. The repetitive enemies get boring, along with the hack and slash. The unique special abilities are fun at first, but are often useless thanks to the ability for the enemies to just hit you through them.Show moreShow less
