This is a fantastic game I've sunk a ton of hours into. One of the best RS games. However, this is another classic release in which Steam has failed. Here's what is wrong: - Does not create proper shortcuts for Athena Sword. - Does not install sounds correctly for Athena Sword (there is a work around). - There is no Iron Wrath expansion, and in order to install it, it's a pain in the A-S-S. (note: easiest way to do this, is to copy all the files from your installed CD version or download the IW files already unpacked from someone's install) - There are no default planning files for Athena Sword or Iron Wrath. - It is definitely buggier than the disc version, probably in a large part due to the Steam overlay. (update: after I turned off the steam overlay most crashing stopped) - Intro movies do not play for Athena Sword or Iron Wrath, and I haven't discovered a way to use or edit existing shorcuts to work with Steam version. Here's what is right: - No DRM - You can install the Raven Shield 2.0 mod OR the online muliplayer patch, but not both simultanously. I'm giving it a luke warm recommendation if you get it cheap. My intention is to just use this version for MP, since most people who play this online use this version. Of course, you can patch the CD version as well, which works great. But all the fixes and tweaks for MP are usually focused around the Steam version. By using the Steam version, you can share in the pain.Show moreShow less

You Buy a Game from Ubisoft. You Play the Game, which is from Ubisoft. And one Day, Ubisoft will decide, you had enough of this Game and will remove it for you from your Library and close down its Servers, so you cant play your bought Game anymore. The Server part is one thing, but the removing from Library is on a whole new Level. That is literally theft. Ubisoft removes your bought Games from your Library without compensation. Dont believe me? Look up their Game, or might say the now forever lost Game, "The Crew". I cannot recommend buying from a Publisher which steals from Players. No matter the Quality of the Game.Show moreShow less
I used to own this on XBOX back in the day, and i thought it would be the same game as on the xbox, but i was wrong. The xbox version of this game is very dumbed down and is basically half this game. This version of the game is far superior, and far superior looking as well. This game has some compatibility issues with windows 10 but there are guides out there that will help with just fixing a .ini file in the r6 folder. easy fix. 10/10 worth the buy.Show moreShow less
You make a great plan and then keep repeating it until you get a run where the AI teams don't ♥♥♥♥ it up. Nostalgia goggles/10Show moreShow less
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest multiplayer tactical FPS titles on PC. I use this game as my point of reference when comparing with newer tactical FPS titles. PROS : - Huge arsenal of weapons and gadgets - Large selection of maps containing varied environments - Great gameplay with tight gun control, multiple stances (including a unique "fluid" leaning system) and good damage modeling - The graphics still hold up to this day, and you can run it on just about any rig configuration - Immersive sound effects (authentic gun sounds, enemy chatter, ambient noises, player character movement sounds, etc.) - Complete multiplayer suite featuring customizable game settings - Unpredictable AI that will flank, patrol and call for backup - You can still find several populated servers online, and the modding scene is still active CONS : - Requires a ubi.com account to access multiplayer functionality - Can be brutally difficult at times due to the aforementioned unpredictable AI - Lacks in-game VOIPShow moreShow less

If you love this game, but have windows 10... Just follow these steps: Fixed created by: FcUK_A Stutter Fix 1)Disable Raven Shield VSYNC 2)Run the game with one core I know that those solutions have already been posted, but I realized that you have to do BOTH of them for the game to actually always work. So here is detailed info on how to do those 2 things: 1) Go to your RavenShield/System/ folder and open ravenshield.ini Search for the vsync in the text file, and you will find an entry "UseVSync=True". Change it to "UseVSync=False". (Use ctrl+F to found UseVSync(...). Save and close the file. Go to your ATI/NVIDIA Control Panel and make sure that the vertical synchronization or vertical refresh is to the option OFF or Application Specific. That's the first part of fixing it. 2) You can do it with 2 ways: Either disable one core by Alt-Tabbing out when the game is open, going to the Task Manager, going to the Processes, right-clicking to the ravenshield.exe from the list and selecting "set affinty", and deselecting CPU 0. or the recommended way so you don't have to do this each time you start the game: Go to your raven shield folder (not the system), and create a text file there. Open with notepad and paste this: cd system start /affinity 01 ravenshield.exe and save the file as "fixedstart.bat" or whatever .bat Now by double clicking on this file will start the game single-core. You can create a shortcut for this to your desktop for easy launching. OBS: Sometimes the game will bug your mouse, just restart the game or your computer. OBS 2: If you are a little boring to found all enemies, press ' (the buttom bellow the ESC) and write "route" god - makes you invencible ghost - you can fly walk - disable flight mode godhostage 1 - invencibility for hostages godteam - you team never dies neutralizeterro - neutralize all terrorists rescuehostage - rescue all hostages (obviously) disarmbombs - disarme all bombs tsurrender - all terrorists surrender on sight fullammo - gaves you full ammo (obviously again) Have fun!Show moreShow less
You need some really thick nostalgia goggles to enjoy this game. Enemy AI cheats and it's not unusual at all to instantly get killed when you peak around a corner, increasing the difficulty just makes it easier for the AI to cheat faster as this just increases their reflexes to open fire when they spot you which is a very poor design choice for a tactical shooter as it makes them more twitchy instead of having them flex their thinking power more to use more complex tactics to try and get the upper hand on you. Increasing the reflexes of your enemies works in a fast paced arcadey twitch shooter but not in slow paced tactical one. Especially when the speeds they can fire and get a kill on you are that of aimbotting levels. To make matters worse, your squad mates are total dumbasses and you have to baby sit them alot. I've seen them do really stupid things like not returning fire while waiting for a go code and taking a smoke grenade out only to proceed to the next waypoint with it equipped rather than throw it to get cover. The permadeath of your squad mates means you'll be doing alot of baby sitting if you want everyone to make it out of a mission alive. Recoil for your guns is greatly exaggerated too, yes you shouldn't full auto in most cases but compared to other realistic shooters this one greatly exaggerates the recoil of a gun. Use full auto with an M4 in this then do the same thing in a game like Insurgency 2014 to see just how greatly exaggerated the recoil in raven shield is. The planning mode is cool, has alot of depth and would go on to inspire games like frozen synapse and doorkickers which i gotta give this game credit for, but when you go to execute on the plan and play as an operator in field is where it falls flat on its face. If you want a cqb shooter where you lead a squad of AI team mates get the SWAT 4 gold edition and download the SEF BTLA mod, as that's how a cqb focused tactical shooter is done right. If you're not a fan of how it's got strict rules of engagement in place and you want to lead a squad and just shoot bad guys then play hidden and dangerous 2. Either way both of these are exceptional tactical shooters. AI, especially in a tactical shooter is what makes or breaks it and in Raven Shield's case its the latter, mods may improve the game but at the end of the day, a polished turd is still a turd.Show moreShow less
