This one was hard for me to decide on. Diablo II was one of my all-time favorite and most played games. Torchlight was good, scratched the itch, but didn't really 'hold' me. I had a lot of hope for Torchlight II, but like TL1, it just sort of felt.. empty. What works: The atmosphere is pretty good, I like how the monsters 'exist' before you wake them up in various sets of realistic repose. Very nice touch. The game is colorful and generally graphically engaging, although I don't really like any of the character designs. It /is/ a Diablo clone, so it has that addictive loot-gathering gameplay, but I can't really evaluate it, because I didn't stick with it long enough for that to become relevant. What doesn't work: The skill trees feel bland, with a limited number of 'correct' choices. The class-specific charge bars are terrible - either really boring (wizard and archer) or uninteractively 'see-sawing' power spikes (berserker). The engineer is the only one that feels like it 'works'. Melee still feels kind of like a bad choice, with the amount of damage enemies deal at closer range. As a ranged fighter, much of the combat takes place off-screen, which is terrible game design (albeit, extremely common in the genre). Having some skills be dropped or bought (for example, most of the summon spells) makes building characters even /more/ dependent on drop luck than is the norm. It also breaks down some class variety. Most significantly, the game just felt off, for reasons I struggle to describe. I never felt fully engaged. I put a fair amount of effort in, pushing multiple characters through act 1, but every time, I found myself fighting boredom by the halfway point, and had totally lost interest by the time I stumbled blearily into the desert. (Act II is a desert? How novel!) I kind of regret voting 'no' on this one, because it's plainly a labor of love, because I had high hopes for it, and because I still desperately want to like it, but it is what it is. Not recommended.Show moreShow less
after almost 700 hours I think it's time to rate this game. +before buying torchlight, I wanted a game in wich I could spent days and days playing, that's exacly what I got with this game. +besides the game itself, Torchlight II have the best community I have ever seen on my entire life. +I haven't experienced any problem with Torchlight II +One of the best games and in-game experiences that I ever had. +Workshop content everyday -new maps -a lot of new classes -texture packs and more. Do I recommend this game? I surely do recommend Torchlight II.Show moreShow less
literally bought it for multiplayer just to find out the servers were taken down a long time agoShow moreShow less
Ran around and looted ♥♥♥♥ for ten minutes. Realized it was ten hours.Show moreShow less
While quite enjoyable in the short term, the game is more repetitive than others in this genre. It relies on visual razzle-dazzle more than evolving mechanics, and after a couple of hours classes don't offer new mechanics or interesting hooks.Show moreShow less
It's a well polished game where the loot is actually viable to use. You are not just selling everything to the vendor but you find stuff that you can use and come up with different combinations for your characters like maybe an embermage that carries a gun and a shield or a traditional weapon like a staff or even two wands. Simple put: the itemization in the game is enormous! There are skill trees available that offer numerous different builds. For example, I started with an embermage and went all +Ice damage. But then I added some fire gear and spells and now I have a completely unique spell build that just makes me want to create another embermage to try out different combinations. The only thing that I am not a big fan of is the art work and bright color scheme of the game. At first it wasn't my cup of tea per say but it actually does work well for the style of story they are presenting the customers/gamers. It's extremely well done. There is no Auction House or Real Money Auction House. It is the standard for an ARPG and what a game should be.Show moreShow less

I just picked up this game for extremely cheap, and I'm surprised at the Overwhelmingly Positive reviews after playing it. I thought I'd state my criticisms here as food for thought for others considering picking this up. First the pros. This game is colorful and cute, performs great, and is easy to jump into. The story is not the focus, and it rightly stays out of the way. It's a simple arpg and If you have a buddy to play with, you'll probably have a fun time. Now the negatives. Gameplay: I'm only a few hours into this game and it's feeling very tedious already. Gameplay is dead-simple - even on veteran difficulty, I have had no problem progressing through the game with just default click attacks. That's fine in the beginning, but I don't see much indication of increasing difficulty in tandem with increasingly complex gameplay. Potions are cheap and fairly spammable, and the penalty for death is very small, so there is overall a "low-stakes" feeling to gameplay. Playing on hardcore or on the highest difficulty might help, but... eh. Elite enemies way above your level can soak up tons of your attacks and kill you in a couple hits, but even those situations can be resolved by spamming potions and/or kiting. Greater difficulty in this game seems to call for more grinding, more potion spamming, and more cheesy tactics - not more skillful play. I also have to call out the fact that there are a bunch of buffs in this game with 10-60s duration and a shorter cooldown, so there's no reason not to keep them up at all times. This is just tedious as hell. Character Development: Skill progression is not a tree - skills only have level prereqs - and there are no D2:LoD-style synergies either. So there is not much to think about in terms of builds. With only four classes, I would expect more depth here. Many skills are pretty obviously crap, and some clearly OP, and without the ability to respec (whyyyy), it's clear that you can screw yourself early. To me it appears optimal to maximize leves in one or two active skills, and dump the rest into any helpful passives, notwithstanding picking up a few clear "one-point wonders" (why do these still exist?). But none of this is really necessary - it's not too hard to avoid taking damage altogether by just using normal attacks with a ranged weapon. I have other complaints: constantly dumping items onto your pet is tedious, fishing is really stupid, gold is ridiculously plentiful, loot systems just isn't that satisfying, "your pet is wounded" every 2 seconds, etc. I'd look into more detailed negative reviews for more. Overall, it's not an awful game, but there just wasn't enough depth or challenge to keep me interested.Show moreShow less
