-No Steam achievements or basic Steam elements expected of a Triple-A developer that had an infinite amount of time to prepare for the game's arrival to Steam -Game isn't actually free to play, its free to download. You're forced to purchase a recurring subscription service to access any actual content outside of a few default maps in singleplayer and the tutorial -Subscription service is the only way to access all customization elements -Only three player party sizes. Why tf? This game has SIXTY player lobbies, a three player party cap is insane -Subscription service is the only way to access, create, or even view clubs -Tutorial is garbage. You get a tiny track that exemplifies a specific mechanic within the game to practice on for each level and a personal best goal to achieve in regards to completion time. That's it. They don't teach or explain anything, not one word. Really odd decision -The tutorial, and menus, are littered with gigantic glowing adds pushing you to buy their subscription service. It feels and looks like a mobile game in that regard and reeks of desperation -Ubisoft only finally put this on Steam due to their recent financial troubles, pathetically crawling back to the hundreds of thousands of customers you've ignored, hated, treated like trash, and mocked won't go so smoothly In conclusion, the driving in this game actually feels really good and it looks super nice visually. The amount of content available here is insane, thousands upon thousands of maps all different and unique with fantastic skin and map editor systems to top it all off and a solid club/social experience as well. However, all of these things are locked away behind an awful and manipulative paywall that's constantly shoved in your face but only after you've installed the game, having believed the false advertising and blatant lies that claim this game is free when it is no way whatsoever anything of the sort and would constantly charge you year after year just to maintain access to content you should have only needed to pay for a single time. Its absurd, disingenuous, and manipulative at best. In short? Its a damn shame Ubisoft still sucks this bad. Don't bother with this one.Show moreShow less
I have 600 hours played on Ubisoft Connect as of writing this. Don't let the pricing model put you off, this game is fantastic and enjoyable for all skill levels. This game is probably one of the very few exceptions of Ubisoft's generic game formula. No micro-transactions or DLC, almost everything in this game is skill-based. And the skill ceiling is high, very high. However, that doesn't mean that new players can't enjoy the game - in fact, I don't think you have to be good at the game at all to be able to enjoy it. You're not going to have a bad time because people are better than you, as this game is very much based on improving your performance compared to yourself instead of others. All of this is even more true when you consider how amazing the community is in this game. Almost everyone is friendly and willing to help, so don't be afraid to ask! Trackmania heavily relies on the community and that is absolutely a good thing. The game can also be played on pretty much any input device (seriously - people play on keyboard, controller, mouse, joystick and even steering wheels). The main draws of the game itself are: - Campaign (25 maps playable for everyone including the free-to-play players, changes every 3 months to 25 new tracks at which point the leaderboards close) - Track of the day (daily, user-created and developer-curated track - switches every day at 19:00 CET) - Cup of the day (a competition driven on the TOTD, 15 minutes of qualifying which puts you in a division of 64 players based on your time, followed by knock-out rounds where the slowest drivers go out every round until 1 player wins. Usually has around 2500-3000 players. There's also a Cup of the Night and Cup of the Morning for different time zones.) - Matchmaking (ranked PvP matches driven on the campaign (and at higher ranks Esports) maps) - Royal (wacky maps with a Battle Royale-esque knockout format) - Track builder (create your own tracks) Trackmania has a high skill ceiling but also a very low barrier to entry, so just try out the free version to see if you like it. The training maps and the first few campaign maps are very easy, and you will learn the more advanced mechanics along the line if you stick with the game (you'd be surprised how crazy a game that essentially requires throttle, brake, and steering can get, which also makes it incredibly fun). As for which version to get, this image gives you a clear overview of what each version offers. If you're serious about the game, I recommend club. IMO it is worth it. I'm glad they're finally bringing this game to other stores - it deserves the discoverability.Show moreShow less

Last Edit: thanks for some clarifications, now that i have you attention, i edited a bit acordingly to better inform everybody I would like to "Up Vote" since i LOVED Trackmania United, and i like TrackMania, and would encourage if YOU Never played a TM game, PLAY IT, period, at least try it, it's fun, But: 1- You "Can't Buy" the game, you can play, but only host if you Subscribe to host your games for a limited time, and play your created tracks with your friends. 2- The "Free 2 play" version, is like a free "multiplayer restricted Demo", you play, but can't edit your car, build and play your tracks online, host for friends online, but you can join the existing seasonal public game with 60 random people, Royal / competitive MM 3- That's it? no, you can play 25 campaign maps, and another 25 training maps too (thx eule), but sincerely i'm here for the online with friends Edit: thanks you for the love! <3 i've never received so many thumb ups like ever. Edit 2: Just to clarify, since the comments got rly hot rly fast, i enjoyed playing TrackMania, i said i loved track mania games, i don't like the subscribe models, and know how they handle things in ubisoft, and i think it can work better than how it works right now, even if it's a relative more decent subscribe system than other games. -just wanted friends to know how this really works since this info feels under-played on the store page with a * at the end of just "some" of the features only honestly: I would like to be able to actually buy and own this to support it! -So i can create games to play with my friends, i don't like losing 80% of my game features if i don't pay a monthly fee (yearly too as clarified on comments but it's just montly extended to years) like i'm pressured to play since time is running out while i'm not playing. that really should be handled differently IMO The features that are actually rented by month should be different, if they choose this free2play/paywall model, stuff like being able to have a personal online club, own a server for hosting tournaments and alike, stuff that's actually a service and costs money to maintain, or a luxury, that's fine, but not 80-90% of the basic features of the game. Edit: chill, i said i liked the game, there's nothing wrong with that, and the info is accurate, as to this date, it's also on the game description if you take your time to read it too (you should), but i would not recommend it to "my friends" who i used to play with back in TM united/forever.Show moreShow less

Don’t get fooled by the negative reviews. This is people complaining that the game is technically not free to play, and that Ubisoft Connect exists, which is literally on every other Ubisoft game as well. Wouldn't it be great if games are just free? Unfortunately for us, they do need to somehow make money to stay alive. Trackmania does it through a yearly or 3 year subscription and it’s the only form of monetization. They could have went with a one-time fee model but then you would not need to spend a dime on it ever again. In that case you would most definitely see some kind of battle pass, premium overpriced skins, or even loot boxes. Would you rather pay $10 A YEAR or have the latter? Pick your poison. It is very easy to hate on Ubisoft and there are plenty of reasons to do so, but Trackmania is definitely NOT one of them. Gameplay A racer that probably requires the most pure mechanical skill out of any other. The point is to go as fast as possible and with every turn, drift or jump, minimize the loss of speed. There are so many little mechanics that can be mastered. Some, like track positioning and optimal drifting are rather obvious. While others, like reducing air time, speed drifting, and gear management require quite a deeper dive. Every millisecond and every millimetre in every move matters to improving your time. And if you don’t care about world records and Author Medals, the game is very approachable and easy to pick up for just casual play. Maps Besides the 25 official maps that come out every season (3 months) there are thousands of custom user generated ones. Through Cup Of The Day, you get a new community made map every single day. You can go back and play every featured map since the game’s inception in 2020. Then all the hundreds of custom playlists with various themes and difficulties. It is basically impossible to play through all the available content. Cost As a free player, you are rather limited to only the current season’s first 10 official maps (you can play the rest randomly in servers), ranked and Royale mode. You are not able to participate in the Cup Of The Day, play daily and past season’s maps, create local servers, join clubs, text chat, use the advanced map editor, or apply custom skins. The $10 yearly Standard Access is basically all you need, since you do get all of the custom maps and the rest of the key features. The Club Access adds further ability to create and join clubs, play custom club playlists and most importantly, add skins to your car. You can get skins from in-game clubs, through external sources, or even make your own using in-game editor, Adobe Substance or Photoshop. If you know you will play, the best value does end up being the 3 year Club Access, especially when on sale for $45. Even if you do get it every 3 years, it would realistically end up costing less than if the game had all the other standard monetization tactics. The nice thing is that even for $10 you can get all of the content, and upgrade later if needed. Edit: The pricing structure has been changed to be way worse for the casual and free player. The $10/year Standard Access has been removed and now there is only Club Access. You do get all the features now but the cost is $20/year or the unchanged $60 for 3 years. The free player has further been limited to only the first 10 campaign maps (out of 25). A very scummy move in my opinion.Show moreShow less
