So irritated that an update removed split-screen racing!! My kids and I were literally sitting with controllers in hand, waiting for the update to finish (that's an irritation on its own -- why can't we just play games without online accounts and constant updates. What's happened to PC gaming?!) Anyway, when the game finally loaded, the local multi-player option was gone. When a compulsory update removes a core game feature, that's when it's all gone too far. Truly unbelievable.Show moreShow less
For context, I am writing this review a few months after the update every other review below is talking about. The game is very stable, the update brought even better graphics to an already great looking game. Maps can be easily updated in the game itself, this is no problem. Trackmania is a great arcade style racing game. The controls are phenomenal, you really feel in control of your car. Multiplayer makes this game so great, servers are full of great maps and players. Sometimes you can play with more than 100 players on 1 map, which looks really cool. There is also a great esport scene, almost always there is some competition going on in your favorite style of maps. I've played this game for more than 10 years now and I probably will never stop playing it. Please try it out, you will not regret it.Show moreShow less
Before the update I would be happy to vote YES! The game is very fun! In fact, I even like the UI from the new update. However. The reason I am not recommending this game is because they removed a main selling point from the game for me; local splitscreen multiplayer. This game is a blast to play with friends/family locally, but it is no longer possible since they removed it. If they added it I'd love to switch this to the YES the game deserves.Show moreShow less
- You can use custom skins like Ferrari, Bugatti - You could be a creative genius and build an amazing track!!! ;D - Servers always full ~ 50 / 80 players - Simple control system - Nice graphics - You can use original skins from other TrackMania² games: Lagoon, Canyon, Turbo One of the greatest TrackMania² games, 10/10Show moreShow less
I cannot support a game where the developers remove features. Not just a graphics downgrade (from a Ubisoft title, what a shock), but flat out stripping features such as split-screen multiplayer from the game. It's a real tragedy. I have been a big fan of Trackmania since the original release. But I cannot justify recommending that people play a game that you do not know if it will have everything still in it five years down the road.Show moreShow less

The original TrackMania games were damned amazing and had a great following with tons of servers full of thousands of players at any given time of day. For the last ten months, the new TrackMania games have been dead. I paid full price for all three titles, expecting to have an even better time with the new games, because why not? Well, as the days turned to weeks, I realized the folly of my wasted money as almost all of the servers remained dead across the planet and it continued to be impossible to find a choice of heavily populated servers. Whether it was the dumb choice to milk the players of their cash by splitting the game up into three separate releases (one for each environment) and requiring separate servers for each or if it was the decision to charge money for the new games, at all, the result remains the same -- nobody plays these. If you reference SteamCharts for Stadium, you'll find that the average number of players at any given time through all of 2013 was between 90 and 190. Across the entire planet - and most usually seem to be overseas (Germany, France, Russia, Spain, the UK), so if you're looking for a populated low-ping server in your region and you're in North America, you're going to have a bad time. It's a very unfortunate situation. The game looks better than ever and it has a lot of enjoyment to offer if you like this style of game. It's a fantastic time waster when you need a break here and there. However, you ultimately need a player-base for a multi-player game to be enjoyed. Their business and release model for this series of games completely failed in this way, this time around. Here's to hoping they give the franchise another shot in a couple more years and they correct their mistakes.Show moreShow less
Addictive. Surprisingly addictive. I bought this expecting 5 hours max of gameplay. I would drive around in my car a little bit, crash into some wall, then go. Honestly, looking at the name and trailers, I wasn't really expecting a great game. I was so wrong. This game is great. The tracks, the concept, the art, even the music. Everything about this game was done right. The levels aren't repetative so you won't get lulled into a bored repetitive leveling. No, each level has its own new quirck and obviously a new track. If you are going to buy this, be prepared to start honing your keyboard driving skills because this fast-paced game will require skill. But skill that you won't mind training for because it is such a fun game.Show moreShow less
Writing this review is a bit tough, because I used to play this game's - or Maniaplanet's - predecessor day and night, and did all sorts of things next to just racing on servers. Out of all racing games, Trackmania has always been my favorite. A long time ago it was thriving, had a healhty population, and you could do about as much in Trackmania United Forever as you can do in TrackMania² titles. So where do I start, currently there's a lot wrong with the game. Even though it still runs smoothly, there is a lot that's just wrong. I guess the best point to start at is the population count, the past couple years there haven't been much players, which is rather bad for the game. Maniaplanet is very user driven when it comes to content. Don't expect new content if there aren't players creating them, and as far as I've seen there's not much going on anymore. On Maniaplanet's forums people have been asking for marketing for a long time, but some vets on the forums and Nadeo as well seem to be rather against it. They're not entirely wrong, because in its current state I wouldn't want to advertise for it, that would be a waste of potential players. Now don't stop reading here, it's not a "PLS MORE PLAYERS PLS ADVERTISE" review. I'm having a very difficult time to put this to words. Trackmania has been very dear to me as a game, so there are a lot of mixed feelings behind my words. But you'd think that, before advertising their product and making Maniaplanet thrive again like its predecessor used to, they would fix the on-going issues with their game. Well, too bad. Issues like player segregation, bad UI, bugs and other issues have been around for years. The update to MP4.1 was rushed so far that there wasn't even any proper QA testing. The UI only seems to be getting worse with each large Maniaplanet update and I have absolutely no idea what's going on at Nadeo what makes them think their UI design choices will improve the game, it has only done the opposite. I'm not talking about tools like maniascript, map editors, ingame car painters et cetera. I'm talking literally just about the menus, title system and so on. The title system has been a mistake since the very start. It's been the core problem this game's platform is suffering from. Because there's not enough people to make the benefits work. If Maniaplanet had a couple 1000 active players average on steam charts the title system would've worked, but there's too much player segregation for the current population count. As it is right now, pretty much only Stadium is worth buying if gameplay is what you're looking for, forget about the rest. It saves you a lot of money. But this brings me to the worst point, communication between developer and community. I'm almost shocked to say this, but the communication between developer and community is amongst the worst I have ever seen. And I've been fairly patient. Unrelated, but as an example, I've been waiting for APB: Reloaded's Engine Upgrade. APB: Reloaded's devs have ceased communication since 2014, before Little Orbit took over last year. So here's the issue: A lot of the issues I've written in this review are known for a long time. People have stated them before, but on the Maniaplanet forums - the only way to directly communicate with the devs - they're either getting bashed by veterans, or straight up censored by Nadeo themselves. Hylis himself even admitted he has a hard time resisting to delete posts, because it's not what he wants to read. Small update: I've checked their forum recently and well. There's nothing new. No communication, not a word. Just nothing. I doubt this game will ever see the light again. I'll update this review once I'm being proven wrong.Show moreShow less
