This game is still under development and now they are releasing Train Sim World 3. Unbelievable.Show moreShow less
HONEST REVIEW - PC After nearly 400 hours spent in this game I would like to recommend it if you are a truly train fan but, I would like also to point out all the major faults in this quick review, avoiding at all cost to sh*t posting about the devs and, at the same time, encourage them to improve their product. So.. the game is good? The answer is --> it could be the best train simulator out there but, due to a huge amount of bugs and many issues I will point out later, it isn't. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are amazing, physics is good and I quite like all the task and duties we are involved in but, on the other hand, there are quite a lot of "big" faults: - The game is optimized quite badly. With my almost high end PC (check my pc specs below) it often struggles to reach 60 fps at Full HD resolution, by lowering the graphic settings ofc the average fps counter stays on 60 fps but with poor PS4 standard graphics. Also I've noticed quite often huge frame drops that lasts 1 second, apparently for no reason. My PC can easily run most of the modern games at max settings (Full HD). For example, taking in consideration Assetto Corsa Competizione (which is way more complex than TSW2 about almost everything) and runs on Unreal Engine 4, I always have solid 60fps even in the most demanding racing conditions. I really can't find a proper explanation about these poor performances of TSW2 apart from poor optimization made by the devs. This is the first part that ruins the experience. - The second and quite huge problem is how Dovetail Games deals with bugs. As a player but also as an Esports organiser I'm perfectly aware that bugs are "part of the game" and some of them are unpredictable and we can't really blame the devs but, since there is a dedicated forum where people report their issues, I really can't understand why some of them (that comes also from TSW2020) are still there. May the devs are working on new contents? Probably, but if someone from Dovetail reads my review please take in consideration that pushing out more new contents (with maybe new bugs) surely won't increase your sales, especially if new DLC price tag is worth like a brand new game. This business model it's just catastrophic.... Am I talking s**t? Nope, I'm a business man who works with gamers. So, the best choice here to improve your sales and keep the community happy is to fix what's wrong (depending ofc on how big is the problem or publish a proper statement if it can't be solved, so people will be aware). But ofc this is just my personal opinion. Moving on and leaving behind the bad optimization the 2 major faults are: - Points System of some routes and medals (that's a pretty clever system to involve the driver). Come on guys! Is that hard to test a route minimum and maximum points a driver can achieve? And if due to a low budget you can't afford this, you can simply take a look at the messages on the forum and edit simple values. As a completionist this is ridicolous. - The second one is about bugs that happens if you save a game. Since it's there from TSW2020 I really hope you can finally find a solution. From my POV it's not acceptable that after 1hr route job you save, close the game and then when you come back you find out that you can't complete the task because of random bugs (traffic lights, markers that disappear corrupting the in-game schedule, etc), and may you find this after another hour of playing. If this feature it's broken work around it or fix it, you really don't know how many times I had to face it and redo everything from the start wasting a lot of my few spare time. Finally, I own almost all the DLC and I would like to spend more money in this game, but if TSW2 won't see any bug fix or the devs will promise to fix everything in a new sim game I will not spend a single more penny on it, leaving TSW2 as the last train sim that I've bought of the Dovetail franchise. I think almost everyone in the community, myself included, respect your job as devs and we have patience, but I think you need to choose properly your priorities regarding this game. Thank you. Abandoned for TSW3. Looking forward to the release of TSW4 in around 2 years, TSW5 is gonna be epic too. Avoid Dovetail at all costs.Show moreShow less
I've been a Train Simulator player since 2015. I recieved my first TSW route nearly 2 years ago. The game has evolved a lot since then; but TSW 2 clearly is a major improvement. Let me give you the run down. - Physics are improved - Graphics are improved - More features for a better simulation experience - Scenario planner - Livery designer But the problem is that, Dovetail originally said that all TSW routes would be available on TSW 2 on launch day. They revealed the roadmap a few days ago; and they broke that promise. Turns out the NEC, GWR, and majority of TSW routes that aren't German are not coming back. That's a shame. This is my first review on steam, and unfortunately it won't be positive. This can no longer just be ignored in short: Get "Derail Valley" instead! https://store.steampowered.com/app/588030/Derail_Valley/ For a fraction of the money, you get everything that Dovetail games have only pretended for years. They falsely advertise, but never deliver. Extensive: I have owned the original TSW1 for many years. The reasons I bought TSW1 were: -freedom of movement. It's not. -activities on the track. It's not. (They are only pretended, even the much advertised refueling has no meaning here) -promised editor. Which never showed up. -external controller support. none About the editor. At one point, it seemed like he would keep his promise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNWAV9II2sc But it was just another handful of lies and an attempt to lure other customers into fake advertising. About a year after this video, we got TSW2, instead of completing Dovetails and delivering the promised options to TSW1. + plus point is that some DLCs are persistent, but that's not enough in this case. But in phylosophy, nothing changed. -freedom of movement. It's not. -activities on the track. It's not. (They are only pretended, even the much advertised refueling has no meaning here) -promised editor. Which never showed up. -external controller support. Very limited, only one specific controller, You cant use your already owned joistick, hotas, etc. To me, nothing changed here, again Yes, TSW2 promised an editor again. But in reality it is not an editor, but a very limited time table planner that will not allow you any freedom. You can't even choose the starting point properly, and some sections of the track are completely inaccessible. You will never get to them. You can't even fold the train to your liking. There can be no question of any shunting at all. There is simply no such possibility in this "editor". You can do practically nothing. And now, with the release of "Diesel legends" DLC, I fully understand that dovetail games will never provide us with a full-fledged editor. And their ambassador inadvertently admitted that it was all part of their plan. To suck as much money out of us as possible. The last DLC as a stand-alone option has no value. It cannot be used without investing in the purchase of all UK DLCs. Disgusting. I'm done with you Dovetail games. You have just openly denied the last pinch of hope yourself. This is not the direction the game world deserves. This is teleshopping aimed at the weakness of customers. The lowest way of conducting trading. Shame. End. Small studios, such as "Altfuture" with their "Derail Valley" product, deserve financial support for the products, because they are sincerely trying to bring players a gaming experience. Not just extorting money.Show moreShow less

I wasted my money on this so you don't have to. This is another DTG money grab. There are only 2 new routes, and one 'reworked' which is exactly the same as in TSW2020. There are no new scenarios on the reworked route, except for some yard work services which you can find some of them in the previous title. I haven't bothered to play the Bakerloo line because it doesn't interest me and due to the terrible lightning underground and in the tunnels DTG's games have, I won't even bother. Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen on the other hand isn't that bad. There are 5 scenarios which including driving from A to B and that's it. Also, they removed the freight trains from this scenario. If you recall, there was a freight train with a DB BR185 loco when they streamed this route for the first time on their youtube channel. The 'isn't that bad' part is the ICE train. I like it and it feels nice going 250km/h. Preserved collection... why bother bringing all the DLCs back from the previous game when you won't do any improvements on them? The scenarios will be boring again, the bugs will be there again and what's the point in playing them again if you already did in TSW2020? Some pros/cons now: + 2 new routes + highspeed route + louder audio, you can actually hear your train this time + LZB system in Germany + livery editor (I won't bother using it, what's the point) - Sand Patch Grade is exactly the same as before - the scenarios are just getting from A to B (you can do that in service mode) - the clouds are terrible again even though they said they were working to "improve" them - pretty much the same graphics as before - preserved collection is pointless if you don't remove some bugs at least - MSB is not available on release date, even though DTG said it will be - no freight trains in Germany - scenario planner is useless. All you can do is set A to B destination and add some AI trains. - countless new bugs. For example, on the first ICE scenario your objectives say 'Go Via...', after you do that it says "Wait until...". Why? I'm going 200km/h and there is no way you can stop that fast so you wait for a minute. Please fix that at leas. - only 5% discount for the people that own TSW2020? It's just a re-skin of the same game. It should've been at least 15%.Show moreShow less

If there was one word to describe TSW2, it would be "laziy" or perhaps "broken". While this isn't a horrible game, and is--along with the original TSW 2020--one of best and most beautiful rail simulators on the market, it clearly is taking advantage of the sparse competition in this genre. There is a lot that is good in this game, but as a product, the game has several major flaws I will describe that lead me to not recommend this game for anyone but those with a strong interest in the new routes or features. For everyone else, DTG does not deserve your money until they put some effort into fixing this game. Let's start with the good: The two new routes (Sandpatch Grade is just a remaster) add some great gameplay that we have not really seen before in TSW: high speed rail with the ICE 3M on Aachen-Koln and urban heavy rail/rapid transit with the Bakerloo Line. Both routes are fun, and Bakerloo line has decent replayability with the variety of services. The stock is decently well modeled and some sounds are improved. The addition of a PIS on Bakerloo and LZB in Koln-Aachen is a nice touch. While I have little interest in modding for this game, the scenario and livery editors are also a nice touch. While the graphics and physics are improved, I wouldn't go as far to say the performance is improved. Sandpatch is a lot better looking, but it has new bugs and the sound has not been improved despite years of progress with sound in later DLC. Now for the flaws: TSW2's flaws lie in the amount of bugs, many of which are gamebreaking, the preserved content, and the general business model of this game. TSW2 has A LOT of bugs. Many of these bugs have been in the game unfixed since TSW first came out. Some of these bugs, such as stuck signals, tasks disappearing after loading a save, actions not registering, and poor AI make some services and scenarios unplayable. Most of these bugs would have been caught in the most basic beta testing. Nowhere are these bugs more obvious than in the preserved content. In porting these TSW DLC to TSW2, not only are none of the new graphics, physics, and features of TSW2 applied, but old bugs have still not been fixed and new bugs have been created. The preserved DLC have missing signals, un-completable services, broken alerters and other cab functions, and broken sounds. If anything, they are worse than their TSW counterparts. In creating this game, DTG has also abandoned support for TSW including these preserved routes, despite the fact that many promises that were made about the original TSW still have not come to pass. Any bugs that exist in them will no longer be fixed. This is one of the problems with the TSW series as a whole: DTG releases a DLC at full price, patches it once or twice, fixing only small issues while not touching many gamebreaking bugs, then abandons it to release the next full price DLC. Issues with Oakdale Sub have still not been fixed for example. It almost seems like DTG is not willing to seriously fix anything that has already been sold. While that is speculation, if such an accusation even makes sense, there's something wrong. So tl;dr, if you don't want the new routes (or any routes on the roadmap) and don't want the scenario and livery editor, and ESPECIALLY if you already have TSW and don't care for the new content, please don't buy this game. DTG needs to learn it will make better sales by better listening to the community and fixing what they put out.Show moreShow less
