I enjoy building the routes then running my trains. I've always had an interest in model trains, and at 81, I enjoy doing it virtually. :) Would really enjoy a change to the terrain building tab wherein I could just paint trees on rather than making a section then using copy and paste.Show moreShow less
same engine as the other trainz, i guess they added some graphic improvements. the performance, just like in the other "version" is horrible, we are speaking < 30fps on any settings. the way DLCs and that stuff works is just a pain in the A. i still cant figure out where all the stuff is i am supposed to have, when i look at the content manager i have like 25000 things in there but when i am in the game it just shows me 2-3maps with 1-2 scenario. i bought this thing here and pretty much all i saw was the stuff i already had in the other version of this game?! the price is an absolute joke for an updated version of their old engine. the only good thing i can take from trying this game, is that it doesnt crash anymore, the other one used the crash ever 10-15min at best replying to the devs response: i had vsync off, so i wasnt capped by that. i get the idea of collecting all ur content and putting it into each engine, but i didnt see any content from this purchase. overall its just very confusing as to where u are supposed to find what, aspecially when they mix in stuff you dont own, and just show u 100s of locations, locos etc giving you the feeling you have alot, when in reality you cant drive any of those. the price joke, was regarding this purchase and not any DLCs which i havent bought, tldr i reviewed what i bought and not what i could buy in the future, + i didnt get any extra locations/locos anyways from buying this updated engine?! so yea u pay 60€ for a few dlcs and a graphics update, where u dont get the dlcs tho. UPDATE: Ok, so I was refused a refund from STEAM because I'd 'played' this game for too long - even though, as I explained in my request for refund, I wasn't actually playing it, but trying to download the content that I paid for. Download speeds were excruciatingly slow, which equated to the 20+ hours of 'play'. So...fine, if I can't get my money back then I'll try again. And I did. SIX DAYS LATER of downloading for several hours every day, I've downloaded SOME of the content, but many files failed due to 'SERVER INTERUPTION' - which has resulted in all but one of the maps I PAID FOR 'missing dependencies' and being incomplete and unplayable - and I can find no straightfoward way of being able to re-try downloading the files that were interrupted as the 'asset download' window has just simply DISAPPEARED and there's no clear way to get the files downloading again. This is by far the most woeful experience I've encountered for a just-purchased NEW game that cost me over AU$90, which has taken me several weeks to try and get to a point where I have what I paid for, yet am still left with an incomplete game. DO NOT BUY THIS 'GAME' - unless you want to experience extensive delays in downloading content (it took over an hour to download ~400MB...this takes 2min for other similar sized DLC in other games) and extremely poor execution in usability to actually figure out how to make this thing work; and your idea of a 'game' is staring at a download screen for WEEKS. ...... Older comment: I tried to give this game a go, but it's just not doing it for me. The several days I've spent trying to download the DLC I've paid for, having the servers repeatedly crash and fail to download the files, and the overall clunkyness of the game has led me to a refund request - not sure I will get my $$ back though, as I've clocked up nearly 30 hours 'in game' (of which, might I add, at least 25 of those were waiting for content to download in the asset manager....so no fun gameplay here!). I hope other people have a better time of it than I do, but by the looks of many of the reviews, they are not. I'm sure it's a good game, once you wade through all the pain to get the thing to actually work and the content to download....but I just can't recommend it.Show moreShow less
This is a cross between TS2020, TSW and a model railroad. The game engine seems dated compared to TSW. You can drive the scenarios using DCC or simulation in cab. The good thing is that all my content from an older version I had purchased outside of Steam a few years ago was auto downloaded, so I didn't lose anything. That said, I would only recommend getting this at the sale price. I do not believe it is worth the normal price. This also has an editor which would be good in case you wanted to get an idea of how to design your model railroad.Show moreShow less
I don't understand why this game costs so much. Most of content basically is "copy & paste" from previous editions. Pay that much for old content? Time you see above (12h) is time spent on downloading necessary content for this game to launch and play, so I couldn't refund, because it was over 2h steam limit. CPU usage is at 100% (i7 4790k) while importing new content to the database, which keeps freezing and you need to repeat - time waste. Optimization is terrible, small amount of content (like 70% is DLC, which should be included for free, I really miss old tender's quality/price like in TRS2012 and earlier). This company is focused on grabbing money from your pocket, for example you can't download any assets with full satisfaction, because speed is limited to 5KB/s, you have to purchase "first ticket" to download faster. That's a big shame, I really liked these series, but they chose wrong way.Show moreShow less
To everyone giving it a negative review, READ THIS: There is only one route installed because the others have to be installed separately. In the launch window, you have to click File>Download Purchased Items. And the next time you start the game, it'll install the other advertised content, plus anything you purchased for Trainz: A New Era. You want my opinion? This is perhaps the best version of Trainz to date. Not only does it look fantastic, it also runs fantastic. I installed an Island of Sodor route for Trainz Simulator 12 that I've had alot of input on, and only had to make very minor tweaks, but otherwise, it worked like a dream. If you own T:ANE, all of your built-in and DLC content from the game can and will be brought over, saving you the hassle of repurchasing it all for TRS2019. Oh, and speaking of Sodor, Sodor Workshops has begun releasing new TRS2019-compatible Thomas models with EYES YOU CAN MOVE YOURSELF! Now the remake people won't have to animate the eyes in an external program!Show moreShow less
My entire 1.7 hours of playtime was comprised of downloading dependencies required by a route. I called it quits after 11 items in the queue of 511 items, had downloaded at the woeful rate of 10-50 kb/s. The solution? You buy into the Yearly Subscription Service for $120 a year and get access to all Trainz games versions going back to Trainz: A New Era, or buy a $35 "First-Class Ticket" which unlocks the full download speeds from their servers for one year. Quite possibly the most predatory business practices I've ever seen in gaming in my 20+ years of gaming. One should not have to pay a minimum $35-per-year subscription to make the game actually playable in a reasonable timeframe, ontop of a $40 base game asking price. I get that the devs have to make money, but... this just feels like extortion. I reckon if this were literally any other genre of game; this would be seen as abhorrent and unacceptable and nobody would stand for it. But this is the train sim genre. This sort of garbage has been the norm for twenty years. I'm just happy there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel, in the form of Derail Valley Simulator and Railroader Shortline Operations.Show moreShow less
If you are like me and have minimal skills in being able to paint and/or draw well in the real world and am gutted because of it, Trainz has opened that locked door. There is a section called "Surveyor" which is an editor. Here you can build a world that is only limited by your imagination. The tools available for this do have a small learning curve, but very quickly a world can easily be started as you learn. Mess up, no problem there is the undo button, bulk replace, or you can start fresh. Even if you do not like trains generally, you can still build a themed world using aeroplanes, helicopters, cars, buses, boats, trotting horses pulling wagons and more. The world is your oyster in surveyor. TRS19 is backward compatible, which means older content can still be used. Now this is great, because a lot of this content is still really good and any routes you have built or are nostalgic with, are not made redundant. As with other trainz versions, the loco's you can drive yourself or have the Ai do it for you. You can "run alongside" and watch the train travelling. You can watch a steamer puff and hear the metalic clickaty clack which is pretty cool. Or you can ride a passenger enabled carriage and watch the world you built or someone elses go by with the AI in cab. It is a train excursion that can be done as many times as you like. TRS19 comes with some new textures called pbr alongside the 2d textures. The pbr turns the painted area into a 3d appearance, which is pretty cool. Turfix and clutter is also a new addition. The grasses will move in the wind strength that you select and will render in the area you are at. Move from the area and the grass disappears which helps to reduce the workload on the pc hardware. There is the new lighting (like gamma) slider which gives more control for brightness. Combining this with the environmental options is a powerful tool. Of course there is some tinkering to do, to get "the look" wanted with the various times during the day. With a bit of patience and experimenting, it will happen and can look superb. The way the shadow and sunlight play together in the mornings and evenings can look great. Add fog and the atmosphere's mood changes. One thing that can get over looked is the Post Processing settings. Here there is bloom, hdr. and some others. One which is really great and if a desert or another heat scene is need, there is the "haze" effect. There is a box that needs a tick in the trainz launcher settings to beable to access the PP options. It takes a little time to learn new things (as in most things), but with trainz it is truely worth it. Don't just stay in trainz for half an hour and throw in the towel because it may seem "too hard, tricky, laggy etc", but persevere and chill and not be afraid to ask for help. You may end up like myself and still be using Trainz fourteen years later and counting. I was very pleased with T:ANE, but TRS19 has lept forward and is now my preference. The devs continue to update with patches and actively communicate with their players here on steam and at the Auran forums. .Show moreShow less
This game is a rip from TANE, slightly upped graphics and recycled sounds. Textures must be updated for 80% of the games rolling stock. Nothing unique in this game. It's only a slightly better looking TANE. TANE itself is boring unless you dish out cash for DLC. Not to mention it had great potential! In my honest opinion, I got more fun out of TRS 2006 and 2012. All these new games these guys make are either rips, not optimized, or just boring in general. Trainz was fun in the past because it was loaded with more base content. You got every locomotive... from ICE to a stupid 0-4-0 steamer. I wish Auran would go back to their golden days, and stop this money munching madness. What ever happened to the gold ol' days Auran? When you had more locomotives, rolling stocks, etc. for me to play with, rather than to buy. What ever happened to paying once, and getting it all? What ever happened to those days when I first played TUC (trainz ultimate collection)? I was expecting an optimized, beautiful, nicely rendered, and high graphic version of TRS 2012 or 2006. What did I get? TANE 2.0.... Shame.Show moreShow less
