It is what it is. A little toy box for pitting lots of stupid things together in large numbers. Simulator? Not really. I tried to recreate something semi realistic to see the capabilities of this and it is extremely limited. There is no AI, no meaningful pathing, and there is definitely no strategy. A meat grinder simulator is more like it. It's really more of a tech demo than a game.Show moreShow less
10,000,000 Zombies vs. 50,000 WW2 Soldiers I wanted to see how many units the engine could handle, so I threw a truly outrageous amount of zombies into it. The map loaded up. All of the units appeared. My FPS was hovering around 4. Totally unplayable. To its credit, it warned me it would be unplayable with that many units and even better is it DID actually load and run. So i quit and lowered the number of zombies to a more reasonable amount. 5,000,000 Zombies vs. 50,000 WW2 Soldiers: Wow. Not only did this run, but it ran fairly well. Absolutely playable, so here's how it went: I picked the map with the river with multiple bridges. Massive (that's 5 MILLION) zombie horde on one side, 50,000 WW2 soldiers on the other, placed 5,000 at a time at each bridge. The game loaded relatively quick and I pressed the button to start the battle. The zombies started splitting off and heading towards the nearest foes, as did the soldiers. The problem here is that some of the zombies were far enough away that the soldiers crossed one of the bridges to attack, losing their strategic advantage. The AI is fairly simple. Units will head for the shortest route to their enemies, and then stand in a massive blob waiting to attack. Nothing too exciting, but it works well enough for hordes of zombies. I let the game run on its own for a while, and when I came back I found that the zombies had (unsurprisingly) massacred the soldiers that had crossed the bridge and were now slowly streaming their way up to the other bridges, which were still holding just fine. It seemed that a relatively small force could hold off the zombies at a bridge, especially since they don't swim. This is when I decided to take action and use what I think is one of this game's strongest features. RTS Mode. I peeled off a small company of soldiers from a bridge that was being held just fine and started marching them down towards the zombies that had made it through. I split the force into 2 groups and slowly worked them up towards the bridge, one group moving while the other covered it. In a few minutes I had retaken the bridge. I made sure to issue an order for them to hold the position, and I left them to defend. Turning my attention to the rest of the battlefield, I found that some other soldiers were pushing too aggressively. They had pushed the zombies across the bridge and followed, but if they attracted too many zombies they would get overrun and another bridge would be open for the zombies to attack. I quickly grabbed some units from another nearby bridge and had them fire on the zombies while I pulled the squad back across the bridge to hold that position. Perfect. All bridges covered, no zombies advancing. At this point, I had lost nearly half of my units, while the zombies still numbered in the millions. After some waiting, I noticed that some areas were thinning out the zombies, so I decided to go on the offensive. I grouped up some units from these bridges while leaving some to defend just in case, and began advancing on the flanks of the zombies, which were now split into two giant groups on either side of the map. I slowly advanced the soldiers, and as they did more and more zombies would peel off from the groups at the bridges and come to attack my offensive line. Not enough though. I was able to slowly work through this group of over a million zombies and clear out this one side of the map. At this point, the mountains of zombie corpses were so high by the bridges still defending that I was worried the zombies would be able to cross the river, which was now red. The entire landscape had been coated in blood. Low spots had practically formed new rivers that fed into each other. The landscape was being transformed with corpses and blood. Once I cleared out the top half of the map, I issued an order for all the units up there to start marching on the lower half. It was only a matter of time before the zombies were wiped out, and they were. The last bridge to be cleared of zombies was the one that had originally been overtaken. It had held out this entire time with the handful of units I had left there. Finally, the last few zombies were picked off and I achieved victory. Now, I could have just left the game alone once I retook the bridge that had been overrun, and I probably would have won just the same. However, being able to take control of these massive numbers of units and take the fight to the overwhelming opposition and WIN? That's awesome. I played the original game a bit, but found it a bit dull after doing a few battles. Placing down a couple blobs of units and watching them run into each other for a while can only be fun for so long. In this game I was worried that it would suffer from the same issue, just on a MUCH larger scale. RTS mode removes that worry. The game is still pretty slim on content, but what has been achieved with this new engine... It's hard to really even put into words how it feels to see that many units on screen and have the game perform anywhere near acceptably. More than that, to actually be able to issue commands to the units and have them (mostly) follow those orders? Wow. The engine is an incredible achievement, and the actual gameplay makes me excited for where they could take this. RTS mode is the thing that brings what could be another dull unit blob-fest up to another level, and I hope that the developers continue to expand on it. Could we see this turn into a full-fledged RTS? I hope so. If not, there's still some great content here for battle simulations on a truly epic scale.Show moreShow less
Its fun to play around with but i really wouldnt consider this a finished game. The settings options are very lackluster (no vsync, no aliasing otions) and there are issues with saving custom characters. The camera will occasionally teleport you kilometers under the map when booting up a game. While the maps are enourmous there is very little care put into details. Placing archers on a castle wall for instance is pointless as they cant even shoot down from the walls because it is blocked by the wall itself. The machine gun nests in the ww2 maps are also useless. This game is designed for units to run straight at each other and die. Nothing else. What is the point of even having different maps if the props in them cant be used??? There isnt even a "restart" option if you want to start the battle over again. Its just a bare bones sandbox that will be enjoyable for probably about 10 hours of spectacle until the cracks of the game become too frustrating to deal with. If you are a tinkerer then id say its worth getting because it fun to mess around with different scenarios of your own design and there are plenty of modded characters in the workshop. But, if you are the kind of person that wants to be given objectives or direction then this isnt for you. Ultimately I think this game was made because the developers wanted to test the technical limits of how many AI units could be onscreen at once and everything else was an afterthought.Show moreShow less

even though i say thumbs down to this game i only said no to bring light to an obvious drawback to the entire franchise. you cant save your battles! whats the point in taking all that time setting up armies which does take time if you really get into detail when you have to erase it to do another one. the only way to do it if you take a screen shot of all the settings and then manually put it in again. it seems really silly NOT to have a save feature. i have a low hour count on this game because of this. its very discouraging. besides this little flaw this game is great. its just a battle sim and nothing more. people use it to see how far they can push their systems before it catches fire xD, the mechanics, the fights, rendering, everything that the developers have achieved for this game is astounding. BUT WHY CANT I SAVE MY BATTLES!!!!!Show moreShow less

Overall I enjoy the concept of the game, and this is definitely better optimised than the first game allowing much larger battles. However at time of writing this review there isn't really enough content to make buying this game worth it, which is the same problem that the first game had. That being said, I understand that the game is currently early access and will have more added over time, so i'll consider coming back to this game once it's out of early access, then update my review if necessaryShow moreShow less

tldr: A sequel that fails to deliver. Today I purchased Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2 (UEBS2). I spent about two hours playing the UEBS1 after not playing it for a while. I'm killing time, just screwing around with it and I was having so much fun. A buddy at work and I are just laughing at some of the stuff from UEBS1, and I was waiting for UEBS2 to come off early access. I've always had reservations with EA games, but I felt that I had so much fun with the first game that the second would be a great pickup. Oh, how was I wrong. There are some improvements to the game from the original, and then there are a lot of negatives that I have to say about this game. If you are a new player to UEBS, than I would recommend getting the first one. I'll go into the things that I like about this game, and the things that I disliked about this game. Pro: 1. Amazing graphics. Major step up from the original version. Literally you can have pools of blood on the battlefield. All the character models look amazing. Literally, this game looks gorgeous. 2. Major improvement in the in game music. UEBS1 had that lame but catchy tune that would get stuck in your head, and was fun. The music in this game is epic af. 3. More GOD mode weapons. Some cool new god mode weapons (Noah Flood, Tsunami, and a Shotgun Smite). 4. The game tells you if you're putting too many objects in your sim. The game will give you a heads up if you're trying to load too many objects into a game. 5. Performance Improvement Cons: 1. Maps are too large. I think that the developers were trying to figure out a way to put more units in the game, and that they decided to make the map larger. That's fine, but there is no way to resize these maps to a smaller setting. There were times where I only wanted to have small battles of 300 Spartans (yea I know) versus 1000 zombies. The problem here is the maps are so large you can't find the units when setting up the sim. I would have to increase the size of the army to 10,000 units just to try and find the location of the unit. This may not sound that bad, but when you are trying to setup a lot of small engagements it becomes a burden to try and locate the units. 2. You can edit values for the units in the game, which is really nice, but you can't edit all the values. The only values you can edit are attack damage, attack speed, and health. There are times when I wanted to edit the speed of a unit, or the defense of a unit. I did a sim of 300 Spartans vs 1000 zombies. With the base default stats the Spartans got decimated. I went into the unit details, and played around with the reach of attacks, health, and damage. Created custom units, and then reloaded it to see that there were minimal changes. I'm sure that I could have spent a lot more time playing around, and trying to create a more perfect unit in by testing small amounts of units but when the maps are so large, it becomes burdensome to try and locate a handful of units. 3. Lack of units for a sequel. Technically there are probably more units than the original, but a lot of these just have bad re-skins of other units. There are a lot of mythical, or comical units which is fine, However, there were unit types in the original game that for some reason or another they decided to not import over. No units on horseback, no type of war elephant, no sci-fi units. Categories for units are limited to just 1 or 2 units. For the fantasy section they have orcs, and trolls. In the original you had ten different types of units for that fantasy setting. Besides, with all the dragon fever everyone has nowadays I'm surprised they didn't try to put in a dragon unit in the game. They introduced tanks in this game, but only gave you a single tank type which is impervious to almost all damage. I mean if you swarm them with ducks eventually they'll get it. Yes, I said you can swarm a tank with ducks and the ducks will destroy a tank. 4. No colorblind mode. Yea I'm colorblind. Oh well. It's 2022. I think even powerwash simulator has a colorblind mode. This makes setting up a custom game irritating and very frustrating. 5. I personally didn't like the controls. It may just be a me thing, so I'm just leaving it at it. 6. It just doesn't feel fun. After ten minutes I got bored. There wasn't a way to try and make new scenarios seem fun with different types of units engaging in combat. Mainly because you're spending more time screwing around with trying to find the units in the setup. 7. With the maps being as large as they are, it would be nice to increase game speed to x4, x8, or even x10 normal speed. 8. The maps look cool, but they're just broken. Loaded up Omaha beach. First off, map size was just frustrating here, but there are pill boxes that units just run through instead of offering any type of cover. It's possible and logical that the AI has problems recognizing this issue, but then just don;'t include them. There is a ww1 theme map with trenches that offer nothing more than just an interesting cosmetic. If you have units in the trench they can't fire out of it. There are a dozen other issues that I've had with this game, but I feel that I've went over enough. I rarely have asked for a refund for a game, but this is an instance in which I wanted my money back. I've had a lot of luck with early access games, but I've been burnt recently with a few, and this was the final game that makes me never want to buy an early access game ever again. Developers release games that are half finished with the hopes of cashing in on the popularity of a game quickly, and then they announce the game is no longer supported. This game was supposed to come off early access by the fall of 2022, but here we are at the end of the year and it's still in EA with nothing showing it'll be coming out anytime soon.Show moreShow less
