Literally 90% of this game is locked behind DLC. Buy it all or not at all. Base game is worthless.Show moreShow less

Here's an edit for context: One of the developers flagged this review as abusive and left a different developer response than the one below. The current developer response is a separate developer apologizing for the original developer's comments and behavior. The original review continues below: Ultimate Fishing Simulator supports controller input but it does not show controller button prompts in the UI. The game will continue to tell you to press keyboard and mouse buttons while you are using the controller. I found it to be difficult to play with the controller because of this. My response to developer's original comment: There's no set rules for game tags on Steam. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD, or Stardew Valley, for example, are listed as "Partial Controller Support" and those games all support the controller with UI controller button prompts and nearly native support.Show moreShow less

To start off, I fished in all the lakes and caught all the fish in the base game (I do not own any of the DLC) at least once. I am currently level 15. On a last note, I am an avid fisherman IRL, thus I would go as far as saying that I know a substantial amount about fishing. This is not by any means a simulator, much rather it is an arcade game. As others have touched upon, the only thing that matters to catch a fish is using the correct hook size, and any bait/lure that says that a certain species would like. Line thickness have no impact at all on your ability to catch fish. Higher tier rods, reels, and lines, while they look like an upgrade, certainly do not feel that way. The same gear that I reeled in 300 kg marlins on, can get strained to the point of line break when reeling in a 20 - 30 kg carp. That does not make sense at all to me. The whole fish fighting mechanic is confusing. The fish will always just keep swimming away from you, so if you've got it hooked, and you have enough line capacity, just set the drag high enough and let go of your mouse and keyboard until it tires, because the line will never go slack. Pumping and reeling is equally confusing, because it does not seem to do much. On a last note, your line will never snag or get cut by a rock or anything like that. One thing I would like to see introduced is the option to turn off camera sway! While standing, watching your float, your camera will sway from side to side. Fortunately, I am not prone to motion sickness, but it gets pretty annoying. In conclusion, as a game, it is a decent bit of fun to chase the different fish, buy upgrades, fish new places. However, it becomes extremely repetitive when all fish fight the same way. The only new thing you need to learn is what they bite on. As soon as you got them hooked, you are guaranteed a fish.Show moreShow less
Awesome Game. This is got to be the best fishing game I have ever played. I love the looks of it on my big screen. It makes me feel like I'm right there in the game. I am paralyzed from the neck down and this has brought me the closest to fishing that I have been in many years. Thank you very much for this game Razin CaneShow moreShow less
One major flaw with this game is that the maps are way too small. They give you boats/yachts to explore and fish with. You start to drive out and get a warning 50 feet from the dock that you are leaving the fishery. I used to play a game back on windows 2000 called Trophy bass 4. To this day, no game has met the quality of that game. Sure the graphics are old by todays standards, but the game play is still the best fishing game ever. Sorry but I have to say avoid Ultimate fishing simulator. >>>>Here is what I would want in a fishing game: -Very large maps (on par with real life) -Graphics that don't glitch and flicker -An organic feel to the game. For example when changing lures, have an actual tackle box show up as the menu. -Boats, canoes, kayaks, yachts, rafts etc... -Organic graphics @ the devs. Take a look at Trophy Bass 4 fishing, that game is solid. Buy the license rights to it and bring that game back to life. Don't change it, just recreate it with todays graphics. It will be a hit!!Show moreShow less

This is a pretty unrealistic, arcade like fishing game. I call it a "game" because I could never go as far as to call it a "simulator". This game doesnt come close to "simulating" real fishing no matter how far you extend the definition of "fishing". Here is a list of some of the problems that Ive noticed; You catch a fish on nearly every cast. You NEVER snag. The drag on the reels is useless; I keep the drag set to 0 and have had absolutely no problems landing every fish Ive hooked. In fact, you are much more likely to lose a fish if you apply any drag at all. I lost one fish when I first began playing purely because I was still learning how to play. Since then, I havent lost a single fish that Ive hooked. There arent any help or hints to guide you toward using the correct set up for catching a particular fish-not that it matters considering the last complaint that Ill mention: It seems that using the right size hook or lure is far more important than which rod/reel/line set up you use. As long as you use the correct sized hook or lure for the area and a bait that the fish in that area prefer, you are going to catch a fish with pretty much every cast. For example, Cat Fish are generally bottom feeders and most fishermen use a specific set up to catch one in real life. In this game, as long as you use the right sized hook and a bait that the game says cat fish will like, you will be able to catch a cat fish. I just caught two channel catfish using the rod/hook/bobber set up that you start the game out with-in other words, using the most basic equipment that the game provides. The only change I made was using bread as bait instead of a fly. So this isnt a fishing simulator. Nothing about it will help a fishing novice learn how to fish in the real world. This is a game designed for people who crave immediate and constant positive/successful feedback since its nearly impossible to fail at anything in this game. Im sure that anyone could top the leader boards in this game simply by spending more time playing it than the next guy. There really isnt any challenge. Having said all that, it is still relaxing to play but not $20 worth of relaxing. Get it on sale if you want but I cannot recommend it at full price. Its not a terrible game but its not realistic in any way at all and its not worth $20 just to sit there and know that you'll catch a fish 99 out of 100 times that you cast.Show moreShow less
