“Newcomers should absolutely pick this up: a proven cinematic adventure formula executed with remarkable consistency, with upgraded visuals that more than offset its conservative gameplay.”
Our Verdict
Is it worth the dozens of hours? If you have never played these two, the answer is blunt: yes. What you are getting is an adventure-film formula that has been validated over and over, executed with remarkable steadiness. The story has a human pulse, the visuals can carry the spectacle, and the gameplay — unoriginal as it is — almost always keeps a firm grip on the tempo.

Wins by coordination, not by spikes
This collection does not succeed by spiking any single dimension into the stratosphere. It succeeds through whole-package coordination. Think of it as a well-drilled band: maybe not every track is a flash of genius, but it almost never plays off-key. The story, the score, the staging, and the loop all hand off to one another so cleanly that the seams disappear, and the cumulative effect is far greater than any one element measured alone.
That coordination is the real argument for it. Plenty of games are stronger in a single category. Very few hold this many categories at this consistent a level for this long, and that even-handed competence is its own kind of achievement. Across the source consensus, the scores cluster tightly in the same upper band precisely because there is no soft spot to drag the average down.
It is a useful reminder that consistency is genuinely hard. It is comparatively easy to build a game with one spectacular strength and a handful of glaring weaknesses; it is far harder to build one where every dimension is good and none of them embarrass the others. This collection sits in that second, rarer category, and the reward for the player is a remarkably frictionless experience — there is never a stretch you have to endure to reach the good part, because all of it is the good part. That evenness is exactly what makes the dozens of hours pass so painlessly.
For returning players and the buying call
If you are circling back to this package as a returning player, the reward leans more toward "rewatching a beloved commercial film." You already know roughly where the turns are and what the playbook is, yet the camera work, the score, and the scene direction can still hold you in your seat. The higher resolution and steadier frame rate are like a classic film re-struck from a cleaner print — the story has not changed, but the texture flows more smoothly than ever.
Its shortcoming is equally clear: the core gameplay is conservative, and novelty is not the selling point. But that does not amount to a reason to walk away, because from start to finish it knows precisely what it is good at and very rarely misses. You will not feel like it is rewriting the rules of the industry. You will feel, instead, that this is simply what a mature work is supposed to look like.
The cleanest way to frame the buying decision is against the standalone Uncharted 4 that sits at the heart of this set. On its own, that game is a single Drake adventure. The collection adds The Lost Legacy on top and unifies the visual and performance upgrade across both, so you are getting more complete content at a better ratio. For a newcomer especially, that makes this the obvious way in. An old-school adventure film — and still a very good watch.

Edit. Nine months later and the mouse and camera are finally fixed. No more jitter. I said I was gonna change the review to positive if they fixed this, but in the meantime I got to see Nadine in the Neil Cuckman's finest writing/directing moment. That alone makes this deserve a negative. Buddy, you'll never be Amy Hennig! -------------------------------------------------------------- Edit. First patch, they broke the mouse sensitivity ever more and the game is jittery. Second patch they fixed the mouse acceleration adding propper raw input, but it was a simple implementation and the game remais jittery. The Aim Sensitivity (not the Camera Sensitivity) is so high that even when set to 1 (out of 100) it is still fast. My mouse is set for 900 DPI and I had to drop it to 600 DPI to make it work. Third patch fixed that. I don't need to change my DPI anymore. Also, the Sniper ADS is still too fast. And there's something else that remains overlooked: there's still camera focus overriding sensitivity when you're in cover during a gun fight. Also, people have complained that X and Y axis have different sensitivities. I noticed this before, but I haven't payed attention to it now. - Tweak the sensitivity slider to ajust it to lower than it can. - Add a Scope Sniper Sensitivity slider. - Remove camera focus during fights. As matter of fact, remove it for the entirety of the game. -------------------------------------------------------------- 392 people found this review helpful 66 people found this review funny Posted: 19 Oct @ 3:20pm Not Recommended 4.9 hrs last two weeks / 7.1 hrs on record (1.9 hrs at review time) Remove mouse acceleration and I'll remove this negative feedback. This is PC, ffs. We don't need mouse acceleration or camera focus overriding rawinput.Show moreShow less

Forced mouse acceleration, depth of field, chromatic aberration and vignette. You can turn off depth of field, chromatic aberration and vignette in photomode (and there is no mouse accel on photomode seriously what. They could easily transfer all of this in to the game.) This is how the game looks actually: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1928129486003932818/B0DACA5A9EEEC2EF90736FBE7C4F800C27CC8BBC/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false This is how the game could look: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1928129486003933057/552C0CDF0D49AF381443D81D752534CBEACDECB0/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=falseShow moreShow less

The game is honestly a masterpiece since i haven't found anything to critic. Maybe the only thing i would've wished for would be "More choices" in how to solve a puzzle or different approaches to it. But really i didn't mind at all. So why the negative review ? The game is a crash/bug fest ! Every 1 hour (if i'm lucky) i'm back to desktop, some passages the script bugs and i get to an infinite loop of dying. So i had to load a previous save each time and pray that this time it works. Some missions where i have to use levers to open doors or solve puzzles, it would bug out ... Load previous save again... Then crash to desktop. I was willing to go through all that just to see the end of that story, but unfortunately this last bug is game breaking for me. No matter what i did nothing works. And that's infuriating ! I have a high end PC i would say (RTX3090/ 7800x3d/ect ...) enough to run the game at 120fps constant with maxed graphics and no DLSS. Shame ...Show moreShow less

I enjoyed A Thief's End a while ago, but I'm giving a negative review because I think it's extremely stupid to combine two (huge) separate games into one like this. Now when I'm thinking about playing The Lost Legacy, I need 124 GB of disk space and need to redownload a game I've already finished because they are a single package? Why? Steam lets you do bundles, just do that! And the achievements are combined as well. Who thought this was a good idea? EDIT (to clarify, since some gamers are apparently idiots :surprisedpikachu:) I have a terabyte and a half of SSD, which is full with games I enjoy often. If I had 5tb, it'd still be full with other games. Or maybe I'd download a lot of movies and TV shows. Just cause storage is relatively cheap, it doesn't mean developers are entitled to it. And anyway! My gripe isn't even about the amount of storage the game uses, really, it's about combining two games into a single download for no real reason (apart from forcing people to buy both games). If these were two separate games, I'd be downloading maybe 70 GB, which means one game uninstalled instead of two.Show moreShow less
