I played the demo for 11 hours before this. This game is addictive and you should never ever buy it.Show moreShow less
It's not a bad game, it just doesn't do anything better than the million other games in the genre. My main issue though is that the game quickly becomes mindless. I've only put about 7 hours into it and in that time I've never failed a run, amassed more money than I need for upgrades, and the majority of that was just spamming the "play all" button. What kind of card game doesn't require you to think about what cards you're playing?? Theres even an in-built anti-infinites system, but you can circumvent this by just freezing the enemy on the turn it triggers, allowing you to continue spamming until you either win or die of boredom. I uploaded a 60 second clip for anyone who wants to see what I'm talking about: https://streamable.com/8vpx95 (Despite how it looks, the video isn't sped up.) For the first 3 or so hours of the game it actually feels like you're playing something, but eventually the cracks begin to show and before you know it you'll be spamming PLAY ALL too. There's probably people out there who enjoy this kind of thing, probably the same sort of people who enjoy staring at pretty lights. (The game runs well, but for some reason it uncaps the framerate even with vsync enabled by default, but I fixed that by disabling and reenabling vsync manually.)Show moreShow less
Good game, no complaints. Please add a button to quickly exit the game.Show moreShow less
I really didn't get the appeal: - There's very little to do. - Walking and looking around is mostly pointless. Except for a couple of health items and coins hidden in each map, it's just a waste of time that makes the game go slower, a cardinal sin in a game where you're expected to endlessly replay the same few levels forever and ever. To make things worse moving/looking around is very clunky on account of the old school controls/UI. - The whole deckbuilding aspect seems non-existent. You always start each run with the same handful of cards and you're limited to selecting an extra card to add to your deck, from a very limited and entirely random selection, each time you level up. End your run, and your deck goes back to the absolute basic. - Progression between runs seems slow and dull and not very meaningful. Unlike the addictive "just one more run!" gameplay of the original Vampire Survivors, this one just made me feel like I've had enough after only two or three runs. I'm not sure I'll ever come back to it. The first game was a very dynamic experience where, from moment to moment, you had to stay on the move to dodge enemies, to put them at the right angle/distance for your attacks, to pick up loot from the ground, to move in the direction of special map loot and map secrets, etc. This turn-based thing where you just click on one card at a time until your enemy dies feels very, very lacking compared to that.Show moreShow less
Its a good thing my job can't tell if I'm working, because I'm not. Also a good thing they don't drug test because this game is addicting.Show moreShow less
Played for a bit and it's well made and fine as a distraction, but I'm not convinced that the numbers-go-up style of metaprogression fits here. Couple that with the fact that there's no real decisions to be made during gameplay, as there's basically always a very obvious correct choice (and 90% of the time it doesn't even matter anyway if you go for it or not). Feels more like you're watching a screen-saver than playing a game. Which is fine for the genre that Vampire Survivors was in, but it's not what I want out of a card game.Show moreShow less
Only complaints: -confusing exit menu requiring you to be in a specific building in the village to quit the game. -Also when you are picking things for your deck you cant see your grimoire to check what evolves with what. -In some scenarios you can't see your deck when you have to choose upgrades. Otherwise I love it.Show moreShow less
tl;dr: For me* this game neither provides a satisfying deck builder strategy experience like slay the spire, nor does it provide a fully zone-out experience like the original vampire survivors I mentioned this back during the demo but this game becomes really jarring and annoying to play after awhile. This revolves around the game's two biggest issues which are polarizing against eachother. How involved the dungeon crawl navigation is compared to how mindless the combat is. What this ends up feeling like is like i am edging my brain on tip of being conscious at all moments, i can never fully zone out, nor go full on strategic. The game doesn't provide in either categories to be satisfying. Personally if i want want a strategic deckbuilder, i would play slay the spire. (*edit: maybe don't play the game that credited Anita..) And if i want an arcadey zone-out experience, i'd get the original vampire survivors. I was hoping that this would've changed from the demo, cauase i do believe this game has potential to be great. It's just lacking in UX QoL to remove the redundancies off the core game loop. Honestly i'd prefer if the developer would take the game in a more mindful deckbuilding direction and rebalance a lot of the core design. As of right now it just all falls really flat.Show moreShow less
Damn they made crack 2? Actually though, Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors is REALLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good, even though Ive only played the full game for 20ish minutes, ive played the demo for 15 hours. This game is REALLY good, REALLY cheap, and VERY fun. I love quickly playing and stacking my cards, hats off to Nosebleed and Poncle for this game! Have fun Crawling!~Show moreShow less
I guess I'll be one of the few detractors. This game is fine as a sort of passtime to just kill 30 minutes with and do a run - but ultimately I feel it's just way less fun than vampire survivors was. I appreciate the stab at a new genre, but I also feel like the game is not a good deck builder, nor is it a good DRPG. Both of these are genres I happen to quite like so I'm ultimately left personally disappointed. If you're like me and have been playing games like MTG since you were a kid, the deckbuilding is extremely thin. There's not a lot of card interaction, the combo system is neat but very simple, and there's very limited ways to actually tailor a deck of cards so you'll eventually be running a fat stack. This is weird cause it makes things like leveling up actually bad - you don't actually want that much XP gain cause you'll pollute your deck with trash if you add too many cards. There is built in guard against efficient decks where if you play the same card too many times it starts to shatter and can eventually break. So it seems like all the games design is to just push you to run some fat stack of crap and just line up combos based on mana cost. There's just not a lot of thinking. As a dungeon crawler I think it's very poor as well. The dungeons are small, the enemies are all mechanically identical - except their sprites are swapped and they have different stats. There's nothing to explore or find really, it's all on your map and each map is one screen big. The intentionally dated and pixelated graphics I don't actually think help the game at all. It also feels like all the weapons basically do the same thing. Most DRPGs are focused on party composition, skill synergies, and front/back row positioning and none of this exists in the game at all. You basically just dump cards at some sprites and watch them die. It also sits in this grey area zone where it's easy, but you can't really just get into a "flow" state like in vampire survivors and kind of just zone out. The action is segmented and demands a constant, yet very low, level of cognitive input. To me this makes me think the game would have been better if it was just not a deck builder and instead a pure Vampire Survivors DRPG. Ultimately I feel like the design of this game wasn't made by someone who deeply understands either genre it's taking from. If you like it I'm not hating, but I don't think this is a game for me.Show moreShow less
