Had to return the game without even playing it. When you launch it, turns out you have to have a controller to play it. Well, I don't own a controller and my idea of casual game is something that I can play on my laptop at the airport or in my free time. It doesn't involve having a controller and bringing it along everywhere. Also why I need to press F for things, what is wrong with ESC or Space, which is more conventional. Edited: Bought the game again, played for a while and arrrgh, so boooring. And who came up with those key mapping? arrows, mouse AND space bar? I can't use space properly during fights, I'd need a bigger hands. BTW, why the gameplay is so repetitive? Get your slappy doll out, start moving and slapping basically the same things over and over again. Then walk until either it is slap-o-clock again or time to be "lost" in a "maze". I think I am at "slap-a-Leshiy" stage and honestly, I had more fun playing Loderunner on DVK-2M in 80s, it had more dynamic gameplay.Show moreShow less
A good game to spend an evening with. Stylistically Vasilisa and Baba Yaga is absolutely gorgeous, the visuals and the music fit in very well, the characters and the environments are a breath of fresh air. Russian voice acting uses a peculiar "olden" dialect and is impeccable and fun to listen to. A rare game where you won't want to skip voice lines because they're that damn good. The story is based on Slavic folklore and more specifically on a particular Russian tale, but character archetypes will be familiar even to those who don't know anything about Russian folklore. The story is simple, it's a folk tale after all, but remarkable atmosphere and odd characters keep you engaged. Gameplay is where the game may be lacking a bit. Mini-games are not particularly engaging and some mechanics feel a bit unwieldy. Combat is quite awkward. Be prepared to dash a lot but don't get frustrated too much - you will get to feel all-powerful and vent all your frustrations in the end of the game. Game allows you to use a controller and in fact encourages it, controls feel nice. Didn't encounter any bugs in the couple of hours it took to beat the game except a hint that was showing the wrong button in one of the later stages of the game and having to scroll up in the encyclopedia if you open an article after reading another one to the end. Other than that, game looks quite polished as far as its technical state. All in all, while gameplay-wise the game is clunky at times and combat definitely could use more consideration, artistically Vasilisa and Baba Yaga is a small gem that is absolutely worth the couple of hours you will spend playing it. P. S. Those of you who hated doing house chores when you were little are in for a huge wave of karmic retribution in this game.Show moreShow less
This is one of those "I wish they're was a 'Mixed Feelings' option. A short game that ends up feeling like it's dragging, especially in the first half, what Vasilisa and the Baba Yaga has going for it is the grim-dark yet whimsical and cute art style and a bangin' soundtrack. But it's repetitive and unengaging gameplay drag the experience. This is more so felt in the first half of the game where you're mostly just hiding behind objects and waiting to pass. Not exactly very challenging. I went into this expecting the mini games to be quirky and weird but that is mostly reserved for the second half. The combat, however, is the most tiresome aspect. Which would've been fine were it not for just how much of combat there exist in lieu of what could've been some fun mini games. I'll give this a 4/10 for its soundtrack, art style and it's short runtime.Show moreShow less
This game has the most evident value: it introduces the players to the slavic folklore - at least to the most canonical its characters. Some can say it has primitive and boring gameplay, but the game is not about mechanics, it's about atmosphere of traditional folk tales.Show moreShow less
I want to play this game so badly but every time I open it, it stays stuck on the loading screen :(Show moreShow less
Honestly, I really liked it. I originally came for the soundtrack after seeing it all over social media, but I stayed for the vibes. The art style feels like a gorgeous storybook come to life, and the sound design is so immersive it feels like being narrated a Russian fairytale by your grandmother. Some of the bosses handed me my own butt, but I never said I had a great skills. It’s a storybook for adults who know that the woods are never just for hiking. P.S.- The only game where doing household chores for a cannibal witch feels like a legitimate career path. P.P.S.- Using a controller makes it better!Show moreShow less
Fun short game about Russian folklore. The music is very good, so is the story, and the games has beautiful visuals.Show moreShow less
