I'd like to preface this negative review by saying that the art, setting, music and movement controls in this game are absolutely stellar, and when it works it works really well and plays excellently... BUT I can't help but be overall disappointed when I expected the game to be more about zooping around as a cute spider and less about going through tedious physics puzzles where the unrefined controls and physics just leave you frustrated. So much of this game is awkwardly using web after web to pull a rock or something into place and then hoping that the physics play nice and actually do what they're supposed to. At one point I was almost soft-locked due to a physics item that you're supposed to pull out of a clogged gear becoming so clogged that I thought I would be unable to dislodge it at all. If you think you can handle all that then by all means enjoy what is otherwise a charming and fun game. The area with the bees is easily the funnest and unfortunately also the shortest.Show moreShow less
This game makes me feel happy. That's it, that's the review.Show moreShow less
Let me start by saying the game is incredibly charming and quite fun although I have heard its short. Sadly I wasn't able to find that out for myself due to the fact that I got permanently stuck about an hour in (There seems to be quite a few places this can happen based on reading the community forums) and the game lacks a "Respawn at Checkpoint" button. The only option to remedy this is to start a completely new save. Absolutely ridiculous for something like this to be overlooked and I cant recommend it while this is still an issue.Show moreShow less

When I first stumbled upon Webbed, it looked like a curious game. Yet, every time I watched any gameplay, I was getting the feeling that despite the really cool mechanics and ideas, the game isn’t actually fun to play. I dismissed the fears, however, and decided to play the game myself. No, it really isn’t fun to play. Webbed is a platforming adventure where you play as a spider trying to save your boyfriend, who has been abducted by a bird. As such, you can spin web, use the web as a grapple to swing around and… uh, shoot eye lasers. Given that there’s no conventional combat in this game, those are here to serve as a tool for severing the web, destroying some blocks and moving items around. Using these tools you will explore a world that consists of separate areas, some of which require completion of specific tasks and some contain collectibles, and get help to fight the bird. The saddest thing about Webbed is that each mechanic it has is fantastic on its own. Swinging around feels really good, among the best I’ve seen in games. Spinning web is fun and simple, allowing for many completely different approaches to solving problems. And the style of the game is really cute, even if the soundtrack is quite bland and uninteresting. Every piece of the game works really well. And I can see how they could be combined for a good result. But it’s not what Webbed does. I don’t know how or why, but despite having such amazing component, playing Webbed is amusing at best, but tedious and frustrating at worst, which happens most of the time. Out of 4 major “zones” of the game, only one focuses on the fun of swinging and platforming, for example. And it doesn’t do it all that well, if I’m honest, as most of the time you fail because you don’t see a lot of the screen, despite moving around it really fast. Three other “zones”, though, are just unfun to get through. One of them focuses on puzzles where you get the solution almost immediately, but then have to slowly and highly inefficiently solve the puzzle, often times with random simulation-esque elements of the game getting in the way. One of them is just uneventful. And one is a horrendous escort mission with an incredibly stupid AI, though at least it’s rather short. As a result, the game feels as if one were to prepare a fantastic new approach to a Breakout-like game, except your controller is a rusty valve and a bell you have to ring at a very specific tone. It’s a shame, how such great components were mishandled resulting in a game that isn’t fun. I can understand if you’d want to check it for the style and the mechanics, as swinging around really is good in Webbed. But don’t expect to enjoy trying to actually complete the game.Show moreShow less
Lots of fun! You know...like games are supposed to be! Not gambling on loot boxes or paying money for skins. It's a game. You play the game. The game is fun. You enjoy the game. What a concept!Show moreShow less
It's a cute game. Not much else. There are three basic mechanics (grapple + web 2 points + laser). The web-2-points is somewhat novel but the level design never takes real advantage of this, beyond the very trivial things you can imagine immediately. There are no problem that neccessate thinking so you are basically doing the same stuff the entire game. The story seem to target small children. Nothing for grown-ups to get from it. I might would have recommended it to small kids but I think the short-play time, the existence of better, more classic games for them and the relativelt complex task of plugging things to other things make it a poor solution for them. p.s I am writing this review because I was influenced by the overwhelming positive score, and this is the review I would have wanted to read before buying. It's still a nice game, it didn't cost a lot, it has fun moments and it ended quickly before wearing itself out. I don't really want to encourage people not to buy it, just trying to set your expectations accordingly.Show moreShow less
This game helped me get over my phobia of spiders. Show the dev team some love.Show moreShow less
Was great fun for the first 4 hours... and then I got permanently softlocked in an area through no fault of my own. Can no longer progress, save file completely bust. Just checked the steam forums and apparently this is a pretty common issue and can happen in multiple places. Game has great potential, but being unable to progress after several hours of gameplay and having to restart from scratch really spoils the experience, as such I cannot recommend this game as it is right now.Show moreShow less
