Let's be serious. Every time we consumers do not punish something poorly done we are encouraging that it happens to us again. I am no techie and when I buy a product I expect it to be finished and polished unless it is early access, in which case I know the risks I am taking (and probably would never pay 60 $ for an early access game). I love you guys in Bethesda and Machinegames and I own and have really enjoyed a lot of the games you developed or published. But this time, someone has done a crappy job, and I don't see why I should pay for it. The game is so terribly optimized that you put a patch out yesterday that caused thousands of players (me amongst them) to not be able to start the game ever again due to "Could not write crash dump" error messages. Then, trying to find the solution has become a game in real life (maybe this is the real WII TNC game! Brilliant!): install this, uninstall that, cry here, shout there... and nothing works. I have a heck of a computer and a great bunch of games and never experienced any hardware issues, not to mention the impossilibity to launch my expensive, newly-acquired game. Therefore, buying this game right now is an act of irresponsibility encouraging the developers to put to sale more crappy job before it's finished. Let's not buy, let's refund and only when they get it properly done, we'll buy again. WII TNC IS A MUST-NOT as it is! EDIT 11/03/2017 10:00 am: I tried reupgrading my driver (again) to the latest version (after I had downgraded it since the crash error started) and this time it worked! Back in the game, working like a charm.Show moreShow less
Since this review is at mixed with 2,896, I thought I'd chime in with my two cents, and see if that is worth it, or more, to anyone who might be deciding whether to purchase this game or not. Wolfenstein 2 is less a sequel to Wolfenstein The New Order, than it is a Retro Future Nazi Killing Themed sidegrade to D00M. And that isn't a bad thing. Although it lacks D00M's parkour-esque mechanics, the gunplay has the same visceral, balls-to-the-wall, think-on-your-feet mentality. With that, there are different ways to play. Run and gun, pump and dump (as in just get the craziest heaviest weapons and go ham), or stealth. I tend to favor whichever I think works best for the situation at hand, but none of them feel contrived or played out. One of my biggest issues with The New Order was sometimes having no clear way of tellng where to go, and while that isn't completely fixed, it is addressed by giving you a sometimes difficult to spot waypoint marker which does help. As for the Elephant in the Room. Crashing. Wolfenstein 2 is one of the most optimized and polished releases I've seen on PC. From a technical standpoint it is sheer magic. The choice to stick solely with Vulkan has benefits for every platform, even our little Penguin Bros on Linux, and is absolutely vendor agnostic. This game does not pick sides. It doesn't cow down to nVidia's Gameworks, or AMD's Open Design Tools equivalent. Crashing on Team Green has been, and confirmed by the steady release of (to their credit), nvidia drivers to address their cards shortcomings. AMD has been quick to resolve some as well. It must be said, that them having to disable forced driver updates (which, is stupid, people you need to keep your stuff up to date) and also disabling Async Compute Shaders for nVidia shows that that DX12-ready sticker they slap across the box of the 900/1000 series is just smoke and mirrors. I prepped a PC with a Ryzen 1700 and a GTX 970 for this game, with Display Driver Uninstaller and clean drivers, 388.00, and 388.10, and 388.13 as they were released. Neither him, nor I, having an old 2012 R9 290X 4GB [the hot and spicy b-tard as it is] had any issues, save for one crash for myself. On one of the later areas, on a conveyor belt I had one crash. Reloading the game after losing about two minutes worth of progress, and no issues. At 1080p Ultra Preset with TSSAA I was able to maintain an average of 70-90fps, with drops to 35 and 45 in New Orleans (thankfully in areas where there wasn't a lot of fighting to do). This is the way the PC Gaming Industry needs to go. TItles that push limits, that break molds, that hold card vendor's feet to the fire, instead of backtracking on comfortable, heavy-handed, vendor-specific features. Vulkan and DirectX 12 are the future, and Wolfenstein is its Flag-Bearing Vanguard, and deservedly so. One of the best FPS games since D00M, and one of the best sequels. A must have, a must own, and a must play, bar none. **********Addendum for story: The reason I didn't mention story is because there are enough instances of gameplay and story trailers that give you a good enough drip feed to get you started. Personally? I like the story. Is it great? Well its not an oscar-winning set of moments throughout, but heck, there are some parts that just pulled me, and wouldn't let me go. Moments that made everything worth it. The monologuing can be... crass, but I enjoyed it. The game's story feels like a fun b-movie. Think Mars Attacks but on a much more serious tone. What I've played of the game so far is brilliant. But being able to play the game is like navigating a minefield. Between save data being corrupted (have had to restart the campaign TWICE), seizure inducing flickering, alt-tab crashes, mouse cursors showing up in gameplay, I just can't recommend anybody purchase the game in its current state. I really want to support Single-Player FPSes til the day I die, but I can't support broken releases. It pains to me to not recommend this title, but I will gladly change my review once a drastic fix is released in the coming days.Show moreShow less

Just finished the main story, and I gotta be honest, I feel underwhelmed. Something about this game feels unfinished - you'll find out as you play, all the elements are here - Killing Nazis. Cool guns. Great sound. Fantastic attention to detail. Everything in these departments is set - as the first game was. But it's missing a couple things as well - the story is simply not finished. I don't know if MachineGames ran out of time, or money, but it's missing the "Big Revolution" element it so desperately needed. I don't feel motivated to destroy the regime as much, because I'm not put in anywhere nearly as many positions where I see the struggling of the American People - similar to the Concentration Camp mission from the first game. There is nothing like that, and I think the game could have used a couple missions like that. Your buddy - Wyatt or Fergus - also is relegated to a backseat role - disappointing considering the amount of emphasis they put on the choice in the first game. At this time, I simply cannot reccomend the game at full price. While the first game had the depth and drama that a game like this should, this is lacking in that oh-so-crucial department, and has a pretty meager amount of time you can enjoy everything.Show moreShow less
This is Gaming at its Finest ! The industry said "Single player games are dying" MachineGames says : "Middle Finger" 10/10 go buy it . Edit: For those who can't see the full UI screen when selecting higher resolutions, find the main exe file for the game , in properties>compatibility Check the override high DPI scaling . For those who crash when changing to higher resolutions, you must get the latest driver .Show moreShow less
The last time I felt this ripped off was when I brought Duke Nukem forever. I didn't finish Duke Nukem and I didn't finish this game.. because the game itself is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unfinished!! I would not belive, that a Wolfenstein game would be the one I would regret buying. F♥♥♥! And I was even stupid enough to buy digital deluxe, because I wanted to support it. TL:DR The game thinks you are an id♥♥t. The game doesn't respect your time. The game is insultingly short on anything but hardest difficulty. The game crashes for a lot of people. The game was rushed into existence. The game feels like glorified DLC for The New Order. HOW IS THIS PRODUCT GETTING NINES AND TENS ON MAJOR REVIEW SITES IS BEYOND ME. Just try to read some of that shi♥ they wrote about this game, it's as unreal as the story here. So are there any pros to speak of? - It launched. - no microtransactions. Even the launch part isn't consistent though. As I read the reviews, I should consider myself extremly lucky. The game run without any problems in 4k borderless windowed, no problems alt tabing or doing anything (and I dont use steam overlay anyways..). However, than patch came along and F♥♥♥ED everyting up. Had to play some of the remaining side missions in windowed fullHD resolution, on 4K. Ugh. And cons? - Everything after. So how does it compare to the New Order? Well, poorly. The story. (spoilers) The problem is that Developer tries so much to tell a story, but he has no idea how. We get over 3 hours of cutscenes.. in a Wolfenstein game. I read horror stories of people, who finished the game in 7 or less hours, 3 of which were the cutscenes, that is absolutley insane in action based fps. We know for a fact that developer tried and wanted to tell a story, because if he wouldn't, he wouldn't include 3 hours of cutscenes into to game. Now, telling a story in itself is not a problem, however you must do so with respect to the game you are developing. You simply cannost plop 3 hours worth of cutscenes into the game that is built around shooting nazis. Just try to imagine that Doom would be interrupted every 30 minutes by cutscene, it would absolutley destroy the pacing of the game. And exacly that happened here, just as you are getting into the game. Now, how did Machine games used this much of a story potential? Well.. it felt like a 15 years old tried to imagine how adults would talk and act. That or Frau Engel is right and our heroes are borderline idio♥s. Now dont get me wrong, the game does contain adult topics, but the way they are handled is terrible. For example, Anya (your wife essencialy) is pregnant(5 months into pregnancy), yet she is deployed to combat zone multiple times. You have U-Boat full of resistance fighters and YOU send MY wife to comabt? Are ♥♥♥♥in♥ insane? BJ has no objections against that aside from ,,be carefull". I Mean. What?! Near the end, we can see her jumping around the place, throwing grenades and shooting left and right. WHAT IS SHE EVEN DOING THERE. In TNO, she was an intelligence officer and that was great, it was belivable, it was reallistic, it made sense, but what they did here doesnt make sence. It makes even negative sence. Also, we get a new leader, as Caroline Becker absolutley lost her head after one mission. So who do we get for such important position? Some random woman we knew for an entire hour! Some random chick gets to lead Kresiau Circle instead of our trusted characters? This does not make sence on either story or strategic level. It's bull♥♥it. It doesn't make sense and it broke the belivability of the characters so hard I couldn't take the story seriously for the rest of the game. Last point I'm going to make is a global one. America in this time is rasist to the point where slavery is acceptable again. In this world, our heroes want to ignite second revolution, but who is going to fight it? Most of the ,,undesirables" where wiped out or are not in position where the could fight (proved by the fact that only major resistance was almost wiped out) . That leaves us with white americans, but why the hell would the revolt? It is heavilly implied that white america accepted nazis because the agreed with their opinions. Agreed with their racism and to them, we are the terrorists. So, what are the actions that would presuade them to fight the regime? We murder highly prominent and aparently liked regime general LIVE on tv. What, why would they join us after that? IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY ♥♥♥♥♥♥G SENSE. And the game is inconsistent with itself all over the place. There are plot points which lead nowhere, have no resolution after the end of the game. Plot points, that just wanish, even important ones. You get NO conclusion. NONE. NADA. NULL. They tried to tell the story, they tried to build a world, but absolutley failed on every level imaginable. Now the game has side quests. When I saw them I thought, well, maybe it would be a good idea to do them befire the final mission. Maybe not doing them would cause some of my favourite characters to die. Now, those side quests are not fun, and bear no importance to the game or the story, so you don't need to bother. They are there just to pad out the runtime. Now, you might be saying, well why do you care about story, it's Wolfenstein. And you would be right, the problem is that Machine Games care. You want proof? Well just look at how much of the game consists of cutscenes. if they didnt care, they wouldn't have put so much effort into it. But to hell with story right! This is a Wolfenstein game, let's shoot nazis! So how does the gameplay hold up? Not all that well to be honest. I hear praise on great weapons, great sounds and all that, but in fact, it's, meh. We get 6 weapons. - Pistol - sub-macheingun - somewhat more powerfull sub-macheingun - shotgun - laser rifle - pistol grenade launcher. Only the submacheingun is new. After 3 years, we get 1. 1!! new weapon and it's not even exiting one. Now, depending on difficulty, you might play with some of the heavy weapons. I played the first time on Death Incarnate and the way heavy weapons slow you down killed me so many times, I just refused to use them (unless my position was favorable). Ok so the guns are boring, sounds lack any punch, what about gunplay. Well, it is solid, it's not jaw dropping, it is fun tho. I would say the map desigh suffered somewhat, I cant put my finger on it tho, so I'm not going to talk about that further. You do get several interesting set pieces, twists on gameplay mechanics which make it more interesting but when I thought about it, they wouldn't be missed if absent. Other problem is with commanders. As in previous game, if you are spotted, the commander calls for reinforcemens. However, this has no ballance to it as soldiers come out even from previously cleared rooms, non-stop. You cannot wait it out, the only way to proceed is to rush the commander the moment you are spotted. You just about run aout of ammo if you try to shoot your way to him. (this point might be just me sucking at the game tho) All in all, the gameplay is solid. At best. Now the game ends prematurly, the end has been cut in favor fo DLC or sequel bait, that is unaceptable and the game even has the BALLS to call that out. When you beat it, you can continue playing it. The active main quest is called ,,the end?" and at first, i thought that there is more to the game. For that reason, I finished the terrible sidequests, just for the hope of continuing the (terrible) story, i pushed trough. But no, you get noting. NOTHING, not even a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cut scene. The game was over. Now I have 27 hours on one playtrough, that is mostly because of side stuff (which is not really worth it). How did they fuc♥ed it up this hard after amazing New Order is beyond me. It feels like one year of development, not 3. Do not buy until the game is like 20 bucks, until then, it's waste of money.Show moreShow less
I was on a business trip to Hong Kong and when I came back early Monday I experienced jet lag for the whole week. I woke up every morning around 5am and couldn't sleep anymore. So i needed to find something to entertain myself during that morning period. Then I remembered about Wolfenstein 2 - game that I insta pre-ordered after the day it was announced, but never tried since it was released, because of other games and work. So for the whole week, all my sleepless mornings was full of Nazi killing actions, fighting my way to the truth, to the freedom and, most important part, for revenge. I almost forgot that feeling, when you enjoy the full story rich single player campaign game, without even bothering yourself with those microtransactions-lootboxes bs. And now, ladies and getlemen, we are back on the track! First Wolfenstein game (2013) left us with a kinda bitter taste, a cliffhanger and all the players were pretty much excited and hyped after the second game was announced. I didn't care much about it, because to be honest, I wasn't a big fan of 2013 Wolfenstein, which was boring for me at certain points and all I cared about was William J. Blazkowicz, I really wanted to know about his future. The moment I launched the game, I was shocked already in first 15 minutes - game starts with a row of action full cutscenes, mixed with William's childhood flashbacks, some of them are pretty much rough and violent, shocking if you like. I appreciated that move, because these cutscenes let the player understand what to expect from the whole game. The whole shooting experience is really enjoyable as well, they did a massive work and improved a lot since 2013. The only disappointment for me was a variety of weapons, I was expecting more comparing to the first game. And, speaking of weapons - you will be forced to make a choice at the beginning of the game which will affect what weapon you will get in the future. One major thing, that really impressed me in the game and I am still not quite sure how they can implement all these Nazi emblems and fascist propaganda stuff, which are strongly prohibited in most of the countries all over the world in their Wolfenstein games without any problems and scandals, especially now, when you can easily get in trouble only because of simple tweet, joking on something, what wasn't prohibited few years ago. So I am taking a bow before Machine Games and mostly Bethesda, for their brave and fearless development of game, talking about such topics. That is really insane. Ok, to sum everything up! You should grab this game if you: + Love FPS games + Miss that old times when single player rich story campaign game wasn't a big deal for developers + Wanna have some fun time shooting and blowing everything around + Once again - love rich story games with amazing, sometimes shocking and graphically insane cutscenes + Want to survive insomnia :D + Love challenge. Try this game on a highest difficult and you will not be disappointed, trust me. + Wanna have a chance to stump Hitler with your shoe after the rehearsal :) Worth it! Avoid this game if you: - Not into action shooting games - Have an old GPU, the main reason of the Mixed reviews on Steam is because of "bad optimization" , but I guess we all know what does that mean - Can't stand Nazi topic at any possible form. Enjoy!Show moreShow less
I'm not good at reviews. Simply put the game is unpolished, untested, and boring. The New Order was an extremley fun game for what it was: a story driven shooter. In comparison The New Colossus is sluggish and annoying. The game is rife with bugs, the enemies are dumb as ♥♥♥♥ and the interesting units like sulpersoldaten, panzerhunds, and robots are even less threatening than footsoldiers! The story is uncoordinated as ♥♥♥♥, lines are cringy and full of preaching at points, but it does shine at points. Too bad the shining is blotted out by the god awful BJ family flashbacks. Gone are the tiring soldiers dreams of Anya and a peaceful life. No ♥♥♥♥ Anya! She and other side characters like Fergus/Wyatt are basically in the background. Hell, Anya is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pregnant and she is used in front line combat! What?! Now I know wolfenstein is supposed to be outlandish and all, but even it can go too far and seem stupid. No spoliers, but frankly some locations in this game are just that. There is so much i could rant on about this dissapointment of a game, but one thing that really grinds my gear is a minor mission of the Eva's Hammer, the Uboat you captured in New Order. You descend into the depths of the Uboat aiming to retrieve something of importance. Guarding this item is scores of supersoldaten, the hulking monster-men introduced in New Order. Now recall that in New Order there were 2 supersoldaten: 1940's model and 1960's model. In New Colossus we have shiny new supersoldaten, probably conceived during the 5 months you were in a coma, but what do we find in the depths of the uboat guarding the item? Supersoldaten from this game's time period. To me, this shows how little care went into this game, they couldnt even bother to get a small thing right with story continuation when New Order did it beautifully. This game is an unfinished graceless cash-grab, and I am ashamed that I was excited for it and bought it.Show moreShow less
