A review from Worms Armageddon veteran. Another clunky cash grab from Team 17 bloated with unnecessary bells and whistles, while the game itself isn't nearly as smooth and enjoyable as Worms Armageddon. PROS: + Slightly closer to WA in terms of graphics, customizability and game feel than previous entries. + Now you technically can play good-old custom game modes like shopper, WxW, rope race (no bow'n'arrow though), doesn't mean it will be as fun and smooth as it used to be. + You can customize your team's looks. + Runs without slightest hiccups on a modern systems, unlike WA. + Proper SteamWorks integration for multiplayer. + Big enough single player campaign, because people buy this game to play single player, right? CONS: - The game's physics are really bad, everything is too heavy and there are no options to tune it to your liking. Even the "Low Gravity" item isn't there anymore. Forget about efficiently roping around, bouncing grenads off terrain for cool skillshots or making something skip on water. - Weapon category and hotkey layout is a mess. In WA it was like F7+Space+F7 and you're on a rope with parachute selected, ready to traverse the map without worrying that a slight mistake will end your turn. Here parachute is on F2, because... I guess Team17 doesn't want you to have convenient hotkey controls... - No adjustments for weapon power or rope length, which cripples experience from barely playable classic custom modes. - The worms are too small. As a result, you have to zoom in too much to see what you're doing and not see the bigger picture and vice-versa. - The multiplayer is almost dead, even despite the expected influx of new players from the game being included in a recent bundle. What little playerbase it has are kids with little skill and bad manners. - Importing custom maps isn't as easy and straightforward as it used to be, who needs that huge community-made Worms Map Database anyway? Have a useless Steam Workshop! - No option to import custom voice-banks, flags, victory tunes or gravestones, the vanilla ones are 'meh', and there are no voice-banks that don't sound squeaky. - Crafting and vehicles don't add any depth or fun, they just break the balance and add unnecessary complication and confusion. - Turrets are broken no-brainer OP trash. - Competitive preset is too limiting, which means that you don't have many tools to diversify your tactics, only your skill at throwing grenades and shooting bazooka matters. - Team 17 haven't released any updates in months, and probably moved on to making the next low-effort cash grab. Avoid this game, don't let the devs cash-in on your nostalgia, this game is gravely inferior to WA in everything, except performance on modern PCs and Steam integration. Isn't very fun on its own either, especially with that ridiculous price-tag.Show moreShow less
Thumbs up for Worms becoming an esport! Also, easiest drinking game ever: 1 death (of your worms) = 1 shot (of alcohol or milk) You'll be dead after 3 matches. The good ol' Worms you know and love with a fresh new look! The updated graphics (the terrains are especially BEAUTIFUL) really capture the lighthearted fun of Worms (though I was a little suprised they went for the vector style as opposed to cashing in on the current pixel fad, I suppose that makes the game a little more timeless) The controls are as smooth as ever! The new tanks, turrets, choppers, and mechs (oh my!) add an amazing new aspect to this beloved classic. Multiplayer is great with new 1v1 ranked matchmaking. The current DLC (and more to come) really adds to the fun. It truly might be the perfect Worms game, taking all of the great aspects from the old games and adding new features that really are icing on the cake. Now for my story... I was raised on Worms, I've played since the Dreamcast days back in '99 (Armageddon) and honestly it is one of my favorite videogame franchises of all time. Worms has always had the amazing ability to satisfy the hardcore and casual gamers alike. I can't count the number of times I've introduced it to people (who have suprisingly never played) and their first impression is always "This is weird". But after the first match they are hooked! This feeling for me never gets old, spreading the magic and wonder of Worms and after all these years the lil' guys still got it! Thanks Team17 for all the memories and for staying true to your roots. I can't wait to see what more is in store for W.M.D. EDIT: Currently pretty buggy (terrain not loading fully, weapons glitching, lots of crashing on multiplayer, etc) at least for me. Also, multiplayer quickmatch lobby is a little messy- everytime a player enters or leaves it 'unreadies' you so you are constantly hitting the READY button (which is almost a like a game in itself!) All easily fixable stuff in an otherwise great new installment in the wonderful World of Worms! (the other WoW)Show moreShow less
There is a game breaking bug that essentially freezes the game an a random time at the end of a round with no way to unfreeze it. The devs admitted it is a bug in the game code a couple years ago, and there hasn't been a fix or a workaround for it. https://steamcommunity.com/app/327030/discussions/2/133259227512086673/?ctp=6 Do not recommend buying it, you'd be better off with an older Worms title, which is unfortunate to say.Show moreShow less
This game is a more worthy successor of classic Worms episodes than everything after World Party. Graphics is gorgeous, weapons are well-balanced, controls are perfect like they were in good old times. Crafting system was also a good idea. My only sorrow is that you can't set a "Shopping Mode" scheme, in which you start with no weapons and unlimited jetpack, and you have to collect all weapons yourself. (Crate drops are limited, in Clan Wars/Battlegrounds there could be three per round, now it's only one.)Show moreShow less
The game is great, really is, BUT... ...who the fr*cking CRAP thought the server and lobby system was ready to go!? It refreshes every second, bringing you to the top. Whenever you pick a server, you have milliseconds to double click, or you're just gonna be brought back to the top and try all over again. You think it sounds worse than it is? TRY IT OUT. It's not flawed, it's not bugged, it is COMPLETELY BROKEN, as in: you're not gonna be able to play a single multiplayer game, no matter how patient you are or whatever, it just doesn't work. Literally, I'm not hyperbolic, please tell me how to play a multiplayer game. Developers of the game, TEAM17, how do I join a server? The "quick game" option just brings me to a server where the host is AFK. I've been trying all day, literally ALL DAY, to just join ANY single server WHATSOEVER. It can't be done. TL;DR If you're just gonna play for single player or with people physically by your computer, buy the game. It's awesome. If you want to play server-based multiplayer, forget it. You literally can't. Literally. Not exaggerating.Show moreShow less
It's worms. It's great. They're all great. They're just different shades of great. This one has vehicles and crafting. I can't believe I'm typing this, but I'd rather Team17 just had ONE perma-beta Worms game and added content once or twice a year for 15 years like TF2 does. Worms fans are spread out across 8 games published over 30 years. Team17, please just get this franchise combined under one roof. The Worms Diaspora must come to an end.Show moreShow less
I've played Worms 2, WWP and Worms Armageddon extensively. WMD was an opportunity to create a fun sequel but it disappoints heavily. === The good === -Vehicles are awesome and bring new ways of fighting each other -Graphics are great -UI looks nice -Airstrikes are awesome -Many cool new weapons with cool accompanying effects (airplanes, u-boats, etc) -Ranked matches are awesome === The bad === -The game plays too slow. The animation times should have been cut in half (waiting for crates to drop down, animation of the concrete donkey, general weapons behavour, the worms themselves). The AI needs to think for 15 seconds before it makes a move. Why is everything so slow? -None of the popular schemes that people actually play are in the game -Baseball bat is disabled in the first 3 rounds for unknown reason. Did the CEO get owned once and decided to nerf it? Because it's clearly not coming from player feedback (see below) -No low gravity -Particle stutter and lag despite being a 2D game and having a monster PC with a 3090 (even after putting every setting on low) -You can't change the girder with the arrow keys. Also disabling arrow keys by default. Why would you do that? -The most pressing issues of its predecessor remain unchanged: buggy and frustating jumping, ninja rope still never does what you want and is even more frustrating, retarded AI despite having had over 10 years to fix it -The water has become like a calm sea for some reason instead of wild and dangerous looking -News feed is unclickable -Aim controls have acceleration which is not helpful especially when time is critical and you want to aim right -Did we really need crafting mechanics? === Summary === WMD added a bunch of cool new stuff but at the same time neglected a bunch of critical things which created a half assed sequel. Is Team17 asleep at the wheel? Are they aware of the schemes that people actually play nowadays in the lobbies of Armaggedon? Where is Kaos, Super Sheeper, Mole Shopper, Shopper and many others? They could have made an actual fun revival by looking at what the remaining player base is doing, and they ignored it. You only have to look at the player lobbies for proof.Show moreShow less

Like every 2D Worms its great fun to play against your friends but Team17 needs to stop milking the Worms franchise for real... every couple of years they rerelease the same game but with some stuff removed and some stuff added and they have been doing this since 1995 lolShow moreShow less
