Our Verdict
This is a game that knows what it wants to be. It doesn't chase realism, doesn't chase graphics, doesn't chase story—it just wants to make you hit "one more race" after every match.
And it succeeds.
If you miss the pure destructive joy of FlatOut, if you're tired of racing games that turn into driving simulators, if you just want to blow off steam for half an hour after work—this game is worth a try.
But it has obvious shortcomings. Career mode lacks innovation, graphics are just adequate, and sound design is barely passing. It's not the kind of game you'll play for hundreds of hours, but it guarantees every hour you do play will be a blast.
Full price might be a bit steep—grab it on sale.

Bugbear means Flatout series, Flatout series means lots of fun, both alone and with your friends. Even in alpha stage this game is really challenging: after the first few laps the track gets filled with debris and wreckages, and holding the 1st position when the other 10 remaining cars try to ram you into oblivion is a pretty tough job. Not mentioning the demolition derby. That's just mental. In the actual state, you can drive and tune 3 different cars and take part in both races (on gravel and tarmac tracks, straight and reverse route) and mosh pits (in 3 different arenas) in different weather and time of the day. There is also a figure-8 jump race. You can race against up to 23 opponents. This is the new generation Flatout. EDIT: as of 2/12/14, the game is still poorly optimized.I know it's still in an alpha state, and good thing the introduction of multiplayer, new cars and a WiP track, but please, if a dev will ever read this, focus on optimizing the game: I have a FX-9370 and 2x ASUS R9 270X in Crossfire and with medium settings, 20 cars, 1920x1080, the framerate sits between 30 and 50 FPS.Show moreShow less
The creators of this game boosted the price from $30 to $40 before the winter sale, then put it on sale. What a scam and a terrible company, this game was good, but now im going to go for a refund.. https://steamdb.info/app/228380/ You can see the price jump, then the sale price. EDIT: Melo is lying, nobody would be this persistant if they weren't being paid, I believe the company is sending people to spam this, I've actively removed his comments, but he spams them every hour or so, it contains bb/HTML code looks like from an email :/ 2019 update?! The developers are back at it again, they have past post information (which only developers can see!) from 4 years ago literally! pasting that in as "evidence" that I'm bad or something Just look at the SteamDB price and you will see they raise the price massively and put it on sale just after!Show moreShow less

From almost a sim-like racer with some of the best destruction physics ever to grace a videogame to a mediocre run of the mill racer with bad AI, over simplified driving and dumbed down physics to please to the console crowd. Spend your money elsewhere.Show moreShow less
Man, what a recovery. Ignore the mixed reviews history, this game seemed dead in the water but has been been completely resurrected recently. The driving experience in this game is unlike anything else available. The tech behind the damage model and the nature of the ai makes this game feel incredibley alive, organic and satisfying in a way I have never experienced in a driving game.Show moreShow less
UPDATE - 08/09/2020: It's been over a year. All hope is lost. What a shame.Show moreShow less
Cars, racing, crashing, destruction = awesome!Show moreShow less
Sadly these developers have embraced the scummy practice of jacking their 'regular' price up right before a sale. This is illegal in many countries but valve doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥. Maybe if the game was actually fun or worth the price I'd give them a pass, but it's not so fk them.Show moreShow less
Made by the flatout devs. Technology Sneak Peek is worth it just for the money itself. The sheer amount of stuff you can do in it, test the physics, is just pure fun. The destruction on the cars I the best I've seen. There's not many tracks at the moment, but right now its only pre-alpha and they're adding more onto based on their development roadmap. Highly recommended if you're looking for a racing game with lots of destruction.Show moreShow less
Bought the game because Bugbear and .... "Did you love the over-the-top, reckless racing action of the FlatOut series? Or the ferocious wrecking fests of the classic demolition derby games? So did we!" -Bugbear "For years, you’ve been asking us the same thing over and again: when are you going to get back to your roots, and create another high-octane racing (no nitro boost btw) game that captures the spirit of over-the-top action and reckless driving of the legends of past? " -Bubear "If you’re familiar with the original FlatOut experience , you already know what we’re talking about: exhilarating racing action with sophisticated physics and damage modeling, only this time we’re upping the ante on every front. This is the game we envisioned way back in the early 2000s, re-imagined for today’s technology and gaming standards." -Bugbear I pretty sure unintentional deception is what happened here, and the development changed direction. ALSO, EVERY UPDATE, NO MATTER HOW MINOR, FORCES YOU TO RE-DOWNLOAD 8-11 GIGS OF DATA. It's a decent basic sim racer with soft body damage though.Show moreShow less
