Square Enix should be obligated to refund the money for everyone that bought the Digital Edition of Light and then made it unavailable before posting this version.Show moreShow less

Dragon Quest XI is one of the best entries in the series. Square did not offer an upgrade option to the Definitive Edition for those that already owned the original release. The original has been removed from the storefront and is no longer supported. This IS the definitive version of DQ11, but the greediness of Square cannot be understated, and therefore the additional money I had to spend on the game nets a negative review.Show moreShow less

It looks bad compared to the original version. It is extremely lazy on their part that it is simply a port of the Switch version.* I think it's terrible that Square Enix charges for this upgrade, it should be free. Or at least, with a significant discount. Also, they have removed the original version of the game from the store (although if you had already bought it, you can still download it, fortunately). Also, there are no specific button prompts for each type of controller (at least, not for KB+M). This is ridiculous, even Spike Chunsoft has been able to do this in the last game they released for Steam, Shiren the Wanderer, which is also a console port. To try to improve the graphic aspect a little bit, take a look at this, because I don't think Square Enix is going to try to improve anything in this aspect. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dragon_Quest_XI_S_-_Definitive_Edition * The textures seem to be better than the Switch version, (but not at the level of the original), and they have made some changes in the lighting (some for the better, some for the worse), but the quality of the character models and the quality and density of the grass leave much to be desired. Also very low draw distance and no anti-aliasing in the graphic options menu (but you can fix it thanks to the pcgamingwiki guide). For more information about the graphic differences between the original version and this one, read this thread. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1295510/discussions/0/3006676913236433192/ PS: There are certain points in this review that I would like to go into a little more deeply. DQXI is a magnificent JRPG in all senses, whether in the approach and development of the main plot, main characters and their respective plot arcs, music, enemy design, etc. Also, the game still looks great, but not as great as the original (this is the part that bothers me so much, because it looks extremely lazy from Square Enix, as if they didn't want to spend more time and budget to adapt the models of the original game to the engine of this new version). The 2D mode is fabulous, and I'm sure it's great for a 2nd run, and the QOL improvements are very much appreciated. The new orchestral soundtrack is beautiful. I haven't been able to see anything about the new content yet, so I can't give an opinion on it. What I mean is that if you don't have the original game, buy it without thinking, it's an incredible game, and I'm sure there's some shop where you can see it at a discount. But if you own the original version, I wouldn't recommend you to pay more than 10 - 15 €/$ for this game, there are many other games you can play while waiting for that to happen. TL;DR: An extremely lazy port, the general rule of Square Enix PC ports. You can fix some things thanks to the pcgamingwiki guide, but others, like the quality of the models, you can't. Don't expect much post-launch support, also the general rule of Square Enix PC ports. Buy it if you don't have the original game. If you have it, wait until it is 10 - 15 €/$.Show moreShow less

A great game hampered by horrible business decisions. As a customer who bought the previous version on PC and was denied any type of discount on this one, it took me two years to swallow my pride and buy it on deep discount. I can't give this game a thumbs up based on Square Enix's selfish decision to screw over its customers.Show moreShow less
Picture this: you're finally home, you had a rough day at work, or maybe you studied for your next exam. You're EXHAUSTED but yet no sleepy. You would like to do something, maybe play some games but you also want to relax, no other stress needed. Something that challenges you but that's relatively easy to understand. You want something that transports you in a world different than yours, a world that helps forget yours for a couple of hours. You want to experience loyal companions, big cities, witching witches, mysterious dungeons, evil monsters... You want to forget that day you went through. Then Dragon Quest XI S is exactly what you need. And dayum, the Draconian difficulties are so much fun! Pros (S Definitive Edition) Can now choose between symphonic or the original synthesized OST Can playthrough the game in 2D should players desire the option DQ 8's overworld OST can be played when roaming Japanese VA Current line-up party will follow you in the overworld & party members will occasionally make speech bubble comments during combat, makes the adventure less lonely New untold character stories that did not exist in the original DQ11 give certain party members a lot of character development Can use the fun-size forge anywhere and can purchase materials as you forge as long as they have been once acquired prior Battles can now be played at 3 speeds (Normal -> Fast ->> Ultra-Fast); a fine addition that eases grinding Quick Commands, a handy new QoL addition that allows players to access a variety of options quickly (forge, horse, quest list, photo mode, etc.) New photo mode will line up your current party in an orderly fashion and can command them to perform poses "Noah's Archives" have been removed and "Nose for Treasure" ability allows treasure hunting or unfounded items possible from the beginning on the game rather than at the end Character outfits can now be worn without affecting any stats as long as you have acquired the appropriate pieces New mountable monsters with special features Materials that drop from trees/ores now automatically place into the item bag instead of having to be individually collected Removed crossbow kid minigame and accolades from the original DQ11 New marriage options Serena {New Best Girl} Cons (S Definitive Edition) Tickington, the challenge and difficulty spike was welcoming; however, the overall experience of random encounters offset much incentive to explore Quick Commands should have been customizable, magic such as zoom, evac, squelch, and holy protection would have fit nicely for situational or farming purposes Graphical downgrade from the original DQ11, however, it is not significantly unnoticeable without a side-by-side comparison Refuse to recommend, no discount or any regard to original purchasers of "DRAGON QUEST® XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age™ - Digital Edition of Light" which is now unlisted on Steam.Show moreShow less
