Pros: -Fun systems of 3 teams to build -Some cool and creative skills -Pretty cool unlock system and separate meta system -Decent swarms of mobs and bosses, really feels like a horde. -unique unlocking requirements for some items makes game play different and challenging. Cons -It so bare bones that you'll see more "coming soon" than a theater. -No skill transformations. -Weapons "level up" can sometimes be into worse forms. -Life-steal and dodge only viable items, others have too little impact to be worthwhile. -Some skills are just bad or worthless. -CDs on skills seem excessive vs the dmg or effects they do, weapons do generally better. -Some items not explained or just plain worthless. Happiness stat not explained (Seems to affect rate of S.O.S. and item drops). -The recent Nerf made it I went from regular clears of normal to not surviving 5 mins. -Over all there are better options for cheaper. Personally Id say right now give this a pass, let it cook for a while and see what it becomes.Show moreShow less
Yet another tough call. Yet another zombie survivors (YAZS) is one of these games where it is really difficult to recommend or not recommend. Some will love it, others will hate it. The game takes the survivors-like genre, removes the bullet heaven part and focuses on making you struggle. Main strenghts of the game: Atmosphere. It is dark, it feels like you are truely one of the few remaining people on earth trying to make it through the apocalypse. You can only see the zombies charging at you from the shadows very late, constant running around no time to catch a breath, evading opponents and projectiles becomes your second nature. At the same time the game manages to grasp the atmosphere of an action B-movie with the shooting and the explosions and the noise from both. Plus the references to pop culture, as well as the jokes when you bite the dust, are really entertaining. All in all this survivors is glorious. Because it feels the part. You're not some godlike entity throwing effects all over the screen to spawn kill everything while jerking off with your free hand - you are prey. It's not pixle graphics! Do I really need to explain this one? Not everyone wants to play a game that looks as if it was running on a 64-bit console back in the 90s. YAZS looks pretty decent. What you see in the screenshots is what you get. And if you turn down the brightness slider it just becomes so immersive - standout feature. The devs are still working on this game. In fact it is constantly being worked on. Earlier versions ran like ♥♥♥♥♥ - the dev team optimized it. Sound effects were rather annoying - the devs made new sound effects. There were two new maps and several playable characters being added since the start of early access. The menues and statistics got an overhaul, it's a pretty convenient game now. Main weaknesses of the game: The difficulty. This may not be only a downside per se, but this game is really difficult. Dying on your run happens a lot even if you know what you are doing and after you've purchased long term progression upgrades. Often times games in this genre become easier the more you farm, this one doesn't. In fact every new game mode unlock, every further map is a steep increase compared to the last thing you did. Some people might love the game for it, but others will inevidably become frustrated after a while. Imbalance between weapon damage and abilities. This is something I had not encountered on any other survivors-like: YAZS utilizes both auto fire and auto aim. Theoretically you can disable auto aim, but that makes the game nearly impossible to play because stuff happens so fast and hordes of zombies come at you from all sides. The consequence of this system is, nearly constant auto fire from your weapons vastly outclasses abilities that have an area of effect and limited uptime. Worse still, because you are always running away from the enemy, a stationary ability is basically worthless, and because it auto aims you are very likely to not hit the biggest crowd but the single guy running up to you from the other side because he was closer. I barely ever find myself wanting to go for ability upgrades over weapon ones. The devs are still working on the game... Yes, this is not only a good thing. It's probably the biggest con holding the game back at the moment. YAZS launched with surprisingly little content into early access. And due to a small team, the updates are not coming that fast, nor are they huge. You can rely on something good being delivered, it just takes a long time. Now we need to compare the game to its competitors and what the genre is about: Usually people play survivors-like/bullet heaven because there are a ton of characters, stages and items to unlock. So you get a lot of quality time out of a low game price. YAZS on the other hand is severely lacking in that department: There are only three maps, seven heroes, a very limited progression tree, three tiers of unswappable skills per character, as well as a bunch of items to unlock for the random loot pool. Conclusion. YAZS has the potential to be one of the best the genre has to offer. But it's not there yet, not by a long shot. This is a typical case where I would say: Let these guys cook another three years and it will be amazingly good. This review being thumbsup is mainly because I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. I believe this team will eventually finish their game one day. But any potential customer needs to be aware they are buying into uncertainty. If you don't mind that, you can buy right in and enjoy what already is implemented. If you'd prefer a complete game that can stack up against whatever you played before, you better check back in two years or so. If this review helped or entertained you please consider giving it a thumbsup.Show moreShow less
I mean...It's about average at best. It's not bad, but it's not a lot of fun either for a Survivor-like. There's no fun weapon combination or fusions, there is little randomness to what you're offered, every character only has 2 abilities at base, and unlock 4 more once you've played with them for a couple of rounds. The characters aren't very interesting, the bosses aren't interesting, the only 3 mechanics you have to worry about are a single ranged enemy, a charging boss, and poison puddles on occasion, that's it. There's only a single level, and you can either play that level for 20 minutes, or infinitely, that's it. You can save up some currency for some standard "Abilities deal x%/y%/z% more damage" type upgrade trees, which is just boring, feels terrible to save up for, and is just uninspired. The game just needs...more...More randomness, better enemies, more maps, WAY more weapons/upgrades, weapon fusions, dropped powerups; just...a lot more needs to be done to justify the price right now, because Vampire Survivors and Holocure do this job IMMENSELY better for CHEAPER. And if you want to spend money for a good survivor-like, Soulstone Survivors blows this game out of the water. I jsut can't in good faith recommend this game in it's current state, it's too bare-bones for the price.Show moreShow less
I'm on this huge "move your character around while it auto attacks" game kick, and this one is very fun. For early access it works very well. If you like these games at all you should get this one - it uses guns and explosives instead of magic and similar like the other ones do.Show moreShow less
Really wish steam had a "meh" selection instead of yes or no - I am going to revisit later in to EA but I went with Not Recommended because I am hoping to see the game improve from its current state. Breakdown below. Pros - Smooth gameplay - controls feel responsive and keys are mapped similar to other games in the genre. - Nice looking and pretty cool settings; though I wish you could weave through buildings in a city and really pump up the volume of the hoards. - Pretty awesome music - and it doesn't get overly redundant because the matches are short. - The 2nd map changes up the normal formula in an interesting way. Tremors sort of way. - Zombies and guns = what more could you need? (Answer: A bit more it would appear) - Potatos. Cons - Some of the characters, full upgraded, feel like they just cannot go all the way even with a good supporting cast. See other point below. - Upgrades feel insignificant both in game and the general account wide ones bought from main menu. - Supply drops don't feel very rewarding - outside of happiness and a couple others. - Endless maps are not needed at this stage because by the time you can survive past the 40ish min mark, you have unlocked everything in the game already. You cannot infinitely upgrade your characters and eventually you just collect money on level ups - but there is nothing to spend it on after everything is unlocked. - The game fails to really fulfill what makes the genre so attractive in terms of scaling your power and thinking through options until you become nearly godlike. It tends to fall down to a specific buildout every time (I wont mention it as to avoid spoiling but its not hard to figure out once everything is unlocked.) - As of now, it is not worth the price tag. As others have pointed out, there are far better bargains for the money that will fit the Bullet Hell genre feel better.Show moreShow less
Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. Is this game a masterpiece? No, it is still in Early Access and too many things are not included yet. What is here, though, is great fun. It is exactly what it says - yet another of the numerous Vampire Surviors clones. Compared to many of them, though, it is good, really good. You play survivors (ok, survivors only for a few minutes...) during the zombie apocalypse. You start with one, and can free two more. They shoot automatically at the nearest zombie, and there is an unending horde of zombies. When zombies die, they drop coins, when you have enough coins, you can either upgrade your weapons or even buy a new ability (like dropping mines, throwing hand grenades or calling an attack chopper) which is executed automatically. Upgrades for this abilities reduce the cooldown period and enhance their effectivness. Stuff that lies around heals you or gives you other benefits (shield, cash), additional survivors do not join your team of three but give you perks. There are six (3 are locked) types of team leaders you can select at the start (tank, engineer, medic...). The zombi horde is quite varied and evolves during gameplay. And this is it - you evade zombies while upgrading your weapons and abilities, until the horde finally overcomes you. There is a meta-progression - after a round you can invest training points (collect money to get training points) in global upgrades (endurance, strength, charisma...) of your heroes. Currently there is only one level, four more are planned. Gamepad works fine, there are achievements. The game is in Early Access - the content is limited, but the gameplay is already very good. Add a few more levels, character classes, items and abilities and this can become one of the best games in the genre. Conclusion: (Yet another) roguelite reverse bullet hell. But a good one.Show moreShow less
Played the demo for this a while ago, like months ago, really enjoyed it. Thought it was a nice peek of what was to come. Now early access is here...and I'm not really sure what they were doing? On top of that it is $10 outside of the launch sale which is a hefty price tag for the bullet heaven/survivor genre. There are plenty of games out there 1/3 or even 1/4 of this price that will provide you with infinitely more fun and content as well as creativity. What is available right now is bare bones. Outside of just having to grind to unlock characters (I've put 4 hours in literally doing as much focus as I can to unlock the Medic which is to collect an absurd number of health packs), you then have to grind just to get more options for them. Then once you have a character you have to grind just to unlock their full potential (which some of the higher tier guns are just worse than the previous). It's is definitely one of the games that doesn't respect your time for the lack of content there is right now. It definitely has potential, I like the systems that are there, it just needs more content and some tweaks.Show moreShow less
As a "single" player enthusiast, this is basically top-down single player "Killing Floor". I have been playing a lot of these reverse bullet hell type games, this is one of the sticking ones.Show moreShow less
You absolutely should not be advertising ANYTHING (especially other games) in a game someone paid for. This practice is despicable and is a sign of a garbage company. I paid for this game, not a stream of advertisements.Show moreShow less
