“Songs of Syx” is a game I’ve spent a lot of time on (at least by my standards), and I’ll definitely keep spending time on it because I really like the genre. The reason is that you can clearly see the huge amount of work behind it and the strong desire to turn this project into something truly great, packed with features. So why am I giving it a negative review? There’s a serious balancing and difficulty curve problem once you reach a certain stage of the game. I’ve tried multiple playthroughs with different strategies, but unfortunately the issues are always the same. I’ll summarize them here: 1. At a certain point, the population requires so many services to keep happiness and loyalty above 80% that you’re forced to unlock both the services themselves and their upgrades. That wouldn’t be a problem on its own, except that unlocking them requires dedicating a huge number of citizens to research. 2. Once you reach high population numbers, if increasing your population by X requires assigning X+Y workers (where Y is sometimes greater than 50–100), you eventually reach a point where you constantly lack workers. 3. Point 2 is caused by the enormous amount of population required for research in order to increase “knowledge” and “innovation” points. This creates a problematic bottleneck that eventually leads to stagnation. 4. Once a rebellion starts (especially after surpassing 1,000–2,000 inhabitants), it’s honestly faster to restart the game or load an older save. The rebels cause so much damage that, by the time you recover your population, everyone becomes angry again and another rebellion starts. It turns into a lovely endless loop of suffering. 5. Research upgrades that improve the output of resource production chains scale very poorly. At some point, they require far too many points for only a tiny increase in production, and those research points often mean sacrificing 30–40 researchers for just +10–20 extra resources of a certain type, which is way too little. 6. If you want to build an army larger than 1,000 soldiers, it’s possible, but it requires so many ongoing resources that you basically have zero margin for error. Otherwise, you run out of rations and weapons extremely quickly. At a certain point, it honestly becomes more convenient to just spam mercenaries and dismiss them after each battle. 7. Having only 10 nobles with all the resources, production chains, and conquerable colonies available is far too limiting. Especially considering nobles also need to be leveled up to improve colonies. I personally had to stop at 13 colonies (not even fully upgraded) because, despite having 2 maxed-out nobles, I had no government points left. I would slightly increase government points and allow at least 12 nobles, with the possibility of assigning them to research as well (which would also help solve some of the previous issues). There are also many other smaller things that make certain parts of the experience frustrating, but since the game is still in early access, I’m sure many of these issues will eventually be addressed. I’ll continue playing and seeing how the game improves in the future (hopefully). But in its current state, many players may find certain phases of the game frustrating. Good luck to the developers, and thank you for creating this game.
I really would like to enjoy Songs of Syx but ultimately it's choir not a game. The absurd and ever increasing requirements of your citizens are intolerable, I feel like a slave trying to give them everything over and over and they're never happy. I tried every possible strat i could think of, but the more i started obsessing over this the more i felt exhausted. The developer took the fun out of a game for me. Please make it enjoyable , i am playing sandbox ffs , i shouldn't obsessing over efficiency to barely get by. Before anyone start saying that i am noob, that's probably true, but to be able to enjoy this game the amount of work required at easier difficulties is unbearable.

The greatest city builder I've ever played. Dwarf Fortress is better as a simulation, but it loses focus. Rimworld works on very small communities and has few interactions on the global map. But Songs of Syx works on scales I never thought possible. The scalability is addictive, the complexity increases at a very pleasant rate, and I highly recommend it to everyone, genre fans or not.Mostra di piùMostra meno
