RTX 5090 hits 50,000 points under liquid nitrogen as Asus card breaks three overclocking records

SPLAVE pushed an ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 to near 3.7GHz under liquid nitrogen, breaking three 3DMark world records: Port Royal hit 50,060 points, Steel Nomad reached 19,427, and Speed Way scored 18,734. Port Royal crossed 50,000 for the first time in benchmark history.

The card retails for roughly 25,350 yuan in China—not even ASUS's flagship Matrix liquid-cooled variant, but the tier below. That a sub-flagship air-cooled design can claim records suggests headroom across the RTX 5090 lineup, not just in halo SKUs.

SPLAVE used a Kingpin ICON EXTREME V5 LN2 pot with custom copper heatsinks covering the VRM, pushing GDDR7 memory to 36Gbps. The testbed paired an Intel Core i9-14900KS with an ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 APEX ENCORE motherboard and 32GB of DDR5. The entire setup ran off a single 600W 16-pin connector, which speaks to power efficiency at these clock speeds.

Liquid nitrogen overclocking remains a weekend spectator sport for most users. But the results hint at what RTX 5090 silicon can deliver under conventional air cooling. If you have the budget and want top-tier gaming performance, this generation warrants attention. For everyone else, midrange options will likely offer better value when they arrive.
