Capcom has confirmed that the PC version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword will keep Denuvo in place ahead of the game’s September 25, 2026 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and the reaction from players has been sharply split. The timing makes the decision especially noticeable: several Capcom releases this year, including Resident Evil 9 and Monster Hunter Wilds, have already been cracked, with some breached in under an hour after release.

The debate is a familiar one. Publishers want to protect the launch window; PC players remain wary of anything that might affect performance, loading, or background resource use. By sticking with Denuvo even after earlier examples were broken, Capcom is signaling that the goal is not necessarily permanent protection. It is buying time at launch. Even if the barrier eventually falls, the company may still see value in holding it for a little longer during the most commercially important period.
That matters even more because Onimusha: Way of the Sword is not just another new release. It is the first mainline sequel in this classic sword-action series in more than twenty years. When an older franchise comes back after that long, publishers usually become more cautious about how the return is handled. Capcom’s approach on the distribution side fits that logic. The problem is that discussion can quickly shift away from whether the combat feels good and toward whether the PC version will suffer at launch. That is the usual trigger whenever Denuvo enters the conversation.
The game itself, though, has already been given a solid early showcase. A free demo is now available on all platforms, letting players try roughly 30 minutes of the prologue. That section is set at Kiyomizu-dera, and it gives early access to the core combat systems, including deflection, parry, Issen, and Oni Gauntlet mechanics. It also includes a first showdown with rival Sasaki Ganryu. Players who finish the demo and keep their save data will receive the bonus amulet First Light in the full game.
From a purchase standpoint, Capcom has already locked in the Steam China pricing: the Standard Edition costs 298 yuan, the Deluxe Edition is 338 yuan, and the Premium Deluxe Edition is 388 yuan. The game also supports Chinese voice-over and Chinese subtitles throughout.
Right now, though, the more important question is not which edition offers the best value. It is whether Capcom will give a clearer explanation of the expected PC experience before release. In an action game, combat detection, input response, and frame performance are the foundation. If that foundation feels loose, even a strong combat system can lose its impact. For Onimusha: Way of the Sword, that is the real issue hanging over the Denuvo decision.
