The Epic Games Store has opened up this week's free PC giveaway, with Rogue Waters and Songs of Conquest available to claim from June 4 to June 11. Epic has also confirmed that next week's free title will be Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks. For players deciding what to grab first, the split is clean: one is a pirate-flavored tactical roguelite, the other a more traditional turn-based strategy adventure built around map control and kingdom management.

What immediately gives Rogue Waters an edge is its hook. You play as Captain Cutter, leading your ship and crew through procedurally generated encounters in a revenge-driven pirate campaign. That setup matters. Free-game weeks are full of titles with a strong theme and not much underneath, but this one at least has a clear emotional angle from the start, and that alone makes it easier to justify adding to your library.

It also is not relying on premise alone. Rogue Waters folds crew recruitment, training, and upgrades into its tactical turn-based structure, then layers in naval combat, melee engagements, and even the use of sea creatures. If that all comes together smoothly, the appeal is obvious: not just winning encounters, but gradually turning a ship full of uneasy companions into a real fighting unit. That sense of growing into your crew is the part that feels most promising.

Still, the game I would more seriously recommend is Songs of Conquest. It is taking a different route entirely: a turn-based strategy adventure built on strategic decision-making, tactical battles, and kingdom management. Where Rogue Waters leans into a more personal and dramatic revenge arc, Songs of Conquest works on a broader scale. Its characters may not grab you as quickly, but if you like expansion planning, battlefield positioning, and resource management, its slower rhythm is likely to land better over time.

So the claim advice is pretty straightforward. If you prefer character-driven games, pirate atmosphere, and a tactical roguelite loop, start with Rogue Waters. If you lean toward classic strategy and do not mind spending time on campaign progression and kingdom-building, look at Songs of Conquest first. Since both are free to keep, the real decision is less about choosing one and more about remembering to claim them before June 11.

As for Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks next week, the teaser already makes the target audience fairly obvious. Players who are into the Warhammer 40,000 setting will probably mark the date now. Anyone who is not can still treat this week as a two-part strategy sampler with very different flavors. That is what makes this drop work: not a pile of interchangeable freebies, but two distinct entry points, with a good chance that at least one of them fits.
