Capcom has detailed how Onimusha: Way of the Sword will run on Switch 2, confirming a September 25, 2026 launch on the platform. In the official specs, the game targets 30 FPS in both modes, runs at 1920×1080 while docked and 1600×900 in handheld play, and uses upscaling in both cases. Capcom also says players can enable a variable frame rate option, letting performance fluctuate between 30 and 40 FPS. According to the eShop listing, the game will require about 34.1GB of storage.
The more interesting point is not the pixel count, but that Onimusha is returning to a handheld platform at all. That gives the announcement a little extra weight. Nostalgia is part of the appeal, but Capcom has framed this reveal in very practical terms. Both display modes use upscaling, and players who want a little more fluidity can manually enable variable frame rate.

This reveal is centered on specs rather than story, but the current screenshots still capture the series' severity. The faces suggest fatigue, caution, and just enough menace to make the cast feel interesting. An action game can be technically smooth, but if the cast feels flat, that polish only goes so far.
The comparison becomes less flattering once Capcom lays it against the other versions. Capcom says the game can reach 60 FPS and 3840×2160, or 4K, on other platforms. The Switch 2 edition, by contrast, is built around a 30 FPS target, with variable frame rate only pushing it into the 30 to 40 FPS range. That does not make the Switch 2 version unplayable, but it will affect how combat feels. Players who are used to 60 FPS will notice the difference immediately.

Capcom does deserve credit for presenting those trade-offs plainly. Docked mode, handheld mode, upscaling, and frame-rate targets are all spelled out instead of being buried under vague marketing language. That kind of disclosure is at least honest, and it lowers the risk of players buying in with the wrong expectations. The eShop page also lists the game at roughly 34.1GB, which is not excessive for Switch 2, but it is large enough that digital buyers should make room in advance.
If what matters most to you is being able to dip into an action-adventure on the go, the Switch 2 version still makes sense. On paper, 1600×900 handheld resolution at 30 FPS is a reasonable landing point for that use case. But if you are especially sensitive to the finer feedback of weapon clashes and already expect the smoothness that comes with 60 FPS, a more powerful platform is the better fit. This is less about declaring a universally better version and more about choosing the one that fits how you want Onimusha: Way of the Sword to feel.
