"Project Windless" Unleashes 9-Foot Rooster Warrior: Players Already Hooked After Watching State of Play Showcase Halfway Through

Krafton Montreal Studio's new open-world RPG Project Windless made its official debut at a recent State of Play. The game is adapted from the acclaimed Korean fantasy novel series Bird That Drinks Tears, and what truly stole the show was a nine-foot-tall (approximately 2.7 meters) giant rooster warrior.

Creative Director Patrik Méthé revealed that early in development, the team narrowed the playable race down to four candidates: an ordinary human, a fire-breathing Taoist ghost, an immortal reptilian creature called Nhaga, and this towering rooster warrior named Rekon. During internal hiring and early showcase sessions, Rekon won over nearly everyone — every single interviewee walked out saying they wanted to play as this character.

Méthé admitted the team anticipated the visual impact, but not the sheer intensity of the response. Halfway through the trailer, audiences had already shifted from "what on earth is this" to "take my money." As for whether the rooster warrior can have a customizable beard or pursue romantic relationships with other characters — the studio has no answers just yet.

Is this complete departure from the human protagonist framework a genuine creative breakthrough, or just shock-value spectacle? Would you be willing to play as a nine-foot rooster in an RPG?
