Elden Ring DLC Has No Trophies, and Platinum Hunters Are Split

A PS player recently posted their list of full-trophy clears on Tieba, showing more than a dozen AAA games all at 100% completion. The player said every game on the list was a thorough clear, with all content seriously wrapped up, but two DLC cases stood out: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night as the worst trophy mop-up, and Elden Ring as a DLC release that added no trophy pressure at all.

The frustration is not just having a few more boxes to tick. It is the way DLC trophies can turn a finished list back into unfinished business. In the case of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the player said they had sold the physical disc after clearing the game, only for later DLC to add new trophies. To finish the list again, they had to buy a second-hand copy, reinstall the game, and mop up the new trophies.

That is the part players keep arguing over. A platinum list can feel complete one day, then be marked incomplete again because post-launch content adds a fresh set of trophy requirements. For players who treat trophy lists as collections, that is not a small inconvenience. It turns a finished game into another errand.

Replies under the Tieba post were blunt. Many players pointed to online multiplayer trophies and overpriced, low-quality DLC trophies as the most discouraging designs. Annual sports games took particular heat, with their online achievements described by players as "trophy hell."

Other players were clear about their limits. Some said they were happy to complete collectible-based trophies, but would immediately give up on achievements that required several repeated playthroughs or narrow-window grinding. Another comment joked that chasing full trophy completion can feel as much of a grind as a job.

The counterargument is not hard to understand. Supporters argue that adding trophies can extend a game's life and give players a reason to return when the extra content is substantial. Opponents read it differently: to them, it strong-arms platinum players back into a game and damages the sense of completeness that trophy collections are supposed to provide.

That split has existed in player communities for a long time, and this post put it back in front of players. A game on the scale of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth already makes platinum completion a hardcore challenge. Against that backdrop, the fact that Elden Ring did not add any trophies with its DLC was praised by the player as a decision that avoids putting another burden on platinum hunters.

The larger concern is what happens in an all-digital future. The player suggested that once physical discs and second-hand copies are no longer part of the equation, they may have far less motivation to keep revisiting old games just to fix a trophy list that DLC has made incomplete again. At that point, trophy mop-up stops feeling like completion and starts feeling like extra labor.
