Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen upgrade remains absent as players demand what Rockstar won't deliver
Red Dead Redemption 2's next-gen upgrade debate keeps heating up in player communities, with some speculating Rockstar Games might follow the GTA V playbook and release a PS5-era update.

The 2018 release still holds up visually, but the hardware gap is undeniable—PS5's SSD loading, ray tracing, and 120fps support all outclass the PS4 version. The problem is Rockstar has zero bandwidth for this right now.
Pricing is where the community splits hardest. One camp fears Rockstar will slap on a resolution bump and charge full retail; another thinks a $10 paid upgrade would be fair compared to rebuying the game. Industry watchers are blunt: don't expect anything short-term.
Rockstar's entire operation is locked on GTA 6, and the multiplayer mode's long-term operation alone will keep them busy for years. Red Dead Online is practically on life support—expecting them to circle back for a next-gen polish is wishful thinking. Unless GTA 6 launches and frees up resources, this isn't happening. Players are stuck with PS4 backward compatibility for now, and a proper next-gen version likely depends on whether Rockstar feels generous after GTA 6 prints money.
