Rhythm Witch Gets a Major Update, but Is It Worth 14.7 Yuan?

Witch of Rhythm got a major update on Steam today, with developer Fuguang Game and publisher 2P Games rolling out a new version that adds a Custom Playlist Mode, 15 new songs, and a confirmed 30% discount during the 6.26-7.10 Steam Summer Sale, bringing the price down to 14.7 yuan. For a rhythm-survivors hybrid like this, the most important part of the patch is not the extra content. It is giving players more control.

I have a soft spot for indie teams that try to combine systems instead of copying a proven template. That is what makes Witch of Rhythm worth paying attention to in the first place. It may not be the kind of game that wins people over instantly, but a project willing to fold rhythm mechanics into a survivors framework at least suggests a team trying to find its own voice.

The most practical addition here is the new Custom Playlist Mode. Players can now save 4 custom song sets and use them during stages, which means runs are no longer interrupted by the system randomly switching tracks. In a rhythm game, the music is not just background. It sets the timing for attacks, the pace of the run, and the feel of every input. Handing that control back to players matters more than a routine balance tweak or a pile of extra content.

The game still has a distinct hook, too. One of its protagonists is the vain necromancer Sibel, and players command her servants on a dancefloor battlefield against monsters including slimes, skeleton soldiers, and minotaurs. Combat is driven by dynamically generated beats: the more accurately you hit the rhythm, the faster you build weapon energy and the more smoothly you can trigger attack skills. Keep the COMBO going, and you can enter a fever state.

That setup is not entirely new, but if the feel is right, it can be satisfying in a very specific way: your hands are playing a rhythm game while the screen fills with a survivors-style brawl. The current version also gives it more staying power than a one-note novelty. There are 6 playable characters with distinct styles, dozens of weapons with different traits, multiple gameplay modes, and out-of-run progression that lets you customize growth paths and learn new abilities.

That matters because replay value is what decides whether a hybrid like this holds up. You can build around different beat-based weapons, adjust skill setups, and refine your approach against tougher enemies over time. It is less about spectacle than about whether the systems give players room to experiment, and on paper Witch of Rhythm does seem to have that depth.

The catch is that games like this come with a built-in audience split. They need to satisfy rhythm players who care about timing judgment and tactile feedback, while also giving survivors players a smooth enough growth curve and enough payoff from clearing crowds. Lean too far toward either side, and the other camp will feel shortchanged. That is why this update matters beyond simply adding more songs. It improves player control in a practical way.

If random track changes previously threw off your rhythm, this is a good reason to give it another shot. And if you already like rhythm games, roguelike survivors, or just want to support a Chinese team experimenting with genre fusion, 14.7 yuan during the Summer Sale is a low enough price to take a chance on. If you only want pure rhythm-game precision, it is smarter to check the Steam store page and gameplay footage first. Still, this does not look like a superficial gimmick or a cheap reskin. At least with this update, the developers seem to be responding seriously to player needs and pushing the game toward something smoother and easier to come back to.
