"ROG Descends Open" Goes on Sale for 1199 Yuan — Is It Worth It?
This time, they made a very clear trade-off: instead of continuing to pile on hardware in pursuit of pure sound quality, they focused on adapting the product to the scenarios of “multi-device use, low latency, and long-term wear.” For gamers, this product philosophy is actually more professional than simply pushing specs higher, because it solves the real problem of frequently switching between desktops, handhelds, and phones. The ROG Cetra Open Wireless will open for pre-order rush sales on April 16, priced at 1399 yuan, with a 200 yuan launch discount bringing the final price to 1199 yuan. That price point already makes it clear that it is targeting mid-to-high-end gaming peripheral users.

From a design perspective, the open-ear approach is itself an experience-first architecture. It places the driver unit outside the ear canal, and its core value is not extreme sound isolation, but reducing the continuous pressure typical of traditional in-ear designs, making it especially suitable for mixed scenarios such as long gaming sessions, commuting, and light exercise. Combined with ergonomic ear hooks and a detachable reflective neckband, the product clearly takes into account stability during movement and nighttime visibility. This kind of attention to detail is backed by real usage scenario planning, rather than being purely stylistic.

Technically, the most noteworthy thing about this headset is not the RGB, but the connection architecture. It supports Bluetooth dual-device connectivity, as well as a dual-device mode combining Bluetooth and 2.4GHz, meaning players can keep low-latency audio connected to a PC or handheld while also staying connected to a phone. This interaction flow feels a lot like a fairly complete multitasking system running in the background. ROG’s own SpeedNova wireless technology is designed to optimize the 2.4GHz link, focusing on low latency and connection stability. On top of that, it supports USB-C passthrough charging in one direction, so it can still charge while using 2.4GHz. At least from an engineering standpoint, they did not take the lazy route of cutting out the high-frequency use case of “charging while playing.”

For audio, it comes with 14.2mm diamond-like carbon coated diaphragm drivers, supplemented by Bass and Immersion modes, which is a fairly standard consumer-oriented tuning approach. The former emphasizes low-frequency impact, while the latter leans toward reducing environmental distractions and improving focus, making them suitable for two different needs: gaming and everyday music listening. For calls, it uses a four-microphone array with AI noise cancellation. Add IPX5 water resistance, 16 hours of battery life on the earbuds, and an extra 48 hours from the charging case, and this whole configuration makes it clear that it aims to cover more than just the esports desktop setup, but all-day mobile use as well.

From a business logic perspective, this product is clearly filling in a missing piece of the ROG ecosystem: “lightweight wear and cross-device use.” It also supports the Armoury Crate web version, allowing users to adjust sound effects, gestures, and lighting directly through a browser. That is lighter than many software solutions that require installing full drivers, and the deployment cost for users is also more friendly. As for Aura RGB’s 16.8 million colors and 4 preset effects, that remains the familiar ROG brand expression. My buying advice is straightforward: if you mainly care about closed-back noise cancellation and absolute immersion, this kind of open-ear headset may not be the best solution; but if you frequently switch between PC, phone, and handheld, and also want a lower wearing burden, then the 1199 yuan launch price is well worth serious consideration. At least in terms of product definition, this time the direction feels far more thoughtful than many gaming headsets that “only know how to light up.”
