SlashZero Revealed at PC Gaming Show as a PS5 Console Exclusive
SlashZero made its debut at today’s PC Gaming Show, where its first trailer also premiered, and the basics are already in place. According to GameGeeker, this is a Chinese-developed 3D cel-shaded side-scrolling action roguelike set for PS5, Steam, and Epic, with PS5 as the only confirmed console version. From the reveal, the hook is simple: stylish action, fast combat, flexible builds, and a cyberpunk world centered on fighting, growing stronger, collecting, and uncovering the truth behind the setting.
In design terms, SlashZero is working in familiar territory, but it is territory that can still work: side-scrolling action, roguelike buildcraft, cyberpunk themes, and a 3D cel-shaded presentation. That makes it feel less like a game chasing a single gimmick and more like a second-generation take on a proven formula, combining familiar parts and leaning on combat feel and build loops to keep players around. The official keywords are flashy action, satisfying combat, and free-form combinations, which is a solid direction. What will determine its limits, though, is responsiveness, encounter variety, and progression pacing.

That is where this genre usually lives or dies. The challenge with side-scrolling action roguelikes is not whether a developer can make one, but whether players actually want to keep starting over. What the trailer and current description do suggest is that SlashZero has put real effort into visual identity, and its cyberpunk setting gives collecting and mystery-hunting some narrative structure. But that only goes so far. What matters more is combat resources, skill synergy, and what players gain when a run ends in failure. If the free-form build idea amounts to little more than stacking numbers, it will slide into genre sameness very quickly.

The platform plan is also worth noting. Launching on Steam and Epic gives it broad PC coverage, while the console side is currently limited to PS5. That usually suggests a tighter publishing focus, or at least a phased platform plan. For a new IP, the upside is a clearer audience. The downside is a naturally smaller launch footprint, especially in a side-scrolling action category that often depends on word of mouth. In that sense, hands-on impressions later will matter far more than a concept trailer now.

Among upcoming Chinese action games to keep an eye on, SlashZero currently looks like a directionally sound project that still has a lot to prove. Cyberpunk gives it immediate visual appeal, side-scrolling action gives it a busier, more tactile feel, and roguelike builds are meant to support replay value. If any one of those pieces comes up short, the whole package looks weaker. At this stage, it makes more sense to treat SlashZero as a game worth tracking rather than rush to label it an early frontrunner.

For players already interested in this kind of game, there are three things most worth watching next: whether the action system is more than just good-looking animation, whether the build depth can sustain repeated runs, and whether the PC version’s optimization and pricing are competitive. The first two will decide whether it can carve out a place in the genre. The last one will shape its value against direct rivals. The reveal gives us a workable outline, but any real read on the game itself will have to wait for the next round of gameplay footage.
