Trine 6: Together in Time was officially unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2026, with its first trailer confirming a September 17 release on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Developed by Frozenbyte and published by Cooldown Games, the sixth mainline entry in the Trine series is also available to wishlist on Steam. More interesting than the new cast or story setup is the game's central design promise: every puzzle can be solved by any character.

It sounds like a marketing line, but it may point to a real shift in how the series is built. Longtime Trine players know the old class division was one of its signatures, yet it could also make puzzles feel overly predetermined, as if each room had a single correct solution. If this new "co-op first" approach really opens puzzle-solving to every character, it could give the series more freedom than it has had before.

That's why the "co-op first" pitch matters. This isn't just multiplayer listed on the feature sheet. It's a structural change that could let players stick with the character they actually enjoy using, instead of swapping only because a puzzle demands it. In practice, that suggests a smoother flow to the platforming and puzzle-solving, not just a broader online feature set.

The newly added time-slowing ability is another promising piece. It sounds tailor-made for a side-scrolling platformer that wants to do more with precision: tighter jumps, cleaner dodges, and better timing through traps and encounters. Those have always been areas where Trine works well. If the level design supports it, this could be one of those mechanics that keeps finding fresh uses from a simple idea.

The two new leads also seem clearly defined. Moira, an acrobat, uses chain kicks and ribbon swinging, which gives her a more mobile, showier style. Adrius, a squire, brings spear thrusts and platform creation, leaning more toward support and space control. That latter skill in particular feels true to the series, since creating platforms has always been one of Trine's most recognizable pleasures. Story-wise, the setup follows Moira and Adrius after a failed theft binds their fate to Amadeus, Zoya, and Pontius, sending the group to repair powerful magic that has spun out of control. It's a very familiar fairy-tale adventure setup, but a polished one.

The trailer mostly suggests the direction is right; whether it works in practice is another question. "Any character can solve any puzzle" is an ambitious idea, but if handled poorly it could flatten what makes the cast distinct. If every character is just doing a different animation to reach the same outcome, the series could lose some of the class complementarity that used to give its puzzle design texture.

Combat has also been described as more fluid than before, with a stronger focus on positioning, timing, and teamwork. That's the right call. Trine has never been at its best when players just stand still and trade damage. Its best moments come from improvised saves in the middle of a messy fight, where coordination matters as much as raw offense. If Frozenbyte also sharpens the action feel itself, this sequel could feel more complete than several of its predecessors.

If you already like the Trine series, or have a soft spot for side-scrolling co-op games built around environmental puzzles, this is worth wishlisting on Steam and checking back on once proper gameplay footage arrives. If you care more about the solo experience, waiting is still reasonable, because it's still too early to tell whether "co-op first" means more freedom or more reliance on multiplayer chemistry. Even so, based on this reveal alone, Trine 6 doesn't look like a sequel that's merely piling on more content. It looks like one that's trying to rebuild the series' core structure, and that's more interesting than simply making the map bigger or the campaign longer.
