Star Wars OutlawsFetching price~ $69.99The Division 3 ramps up development with 7 new core hires
Ubisoft has added 7 new job openings for Tom Clancy's The Division 3, including a Lead Game Designer, Senior AI Game Designer, and Animation Director, a move that suggests the project may have entered a new stage of development. Ubisoft had already confirmed The Division 3 back in 2023, and with Massive Entertainment having wrapped work on the Switch 2 version of Star Wars Outlaws last year, the studio may now be able to put more resources into the game.
More telling than the hiring itself is what these roles say about Ubisoft's plans for the game. The Lead Game Designer role specifically covers the design of key social and online features, helping build the foundation for a long-term live-service experience. That points to The Division 3 being built as another long-term online service game. For players who care about systems, the bigger question is not visual polish but whether the game's structure can support meaningful decisions over time. In a long-running game, content quality and system depth have to hold up together, or the experience quickly feels shallow.
The Senior AI Game Designer role is especially notable. Enemy behavior can make or break a systems-driven game. If the AI is good, encounters demand real thought; if it is not, they turn into routine cleanup. Too many games still rely on enemies that feel passive rather than reactive.

Those social systems matter just as much in a live-service game. Party systems, PvP balance, and the in-game economy all need careful design support. What matters more is whether the game offers the kind of strategic content that demands coordination, rather than filler built on repeating the same activities for hours.
The Division series has long been one of Ubisoft's most successful online game IPs, not because of graphics alone, but because of the complex decision-making built around loot progression and tactical cooperation. The Animation Director role also suggests the team wants to push animation quality further through the Snowdrop engine, which is an encouraging sign. Still, the bigger issue is whether the core systems can make a genuine leap forward in The Division 3.

That is also where the risk sits. Live-service games are always vulnerable to content dilution, and Ubisoft's track record there has been uneven in recent years. Whether The Division 3 can find the right balance between service-model support and strategic depth will determine whether it is worth the time of players who care about systems-driven design. For now, Ubisoft has not announced a release date or shared further gameplay details, so any firm conclusion would be premature. For now, it stays on the watchlist, but only a game with enough systemic complexity is worth waiting for.
