Ubisoft Remaking Two Assassin's Creed Games, Black Flag Arrives July 2026
Ubisoft is developing two Assassin's Creed remakes simultaneously. One is Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced, launching July 9, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The other remains unannounced but likely falls between the original game and Assassin's Creed III.

Black Flag Resynced won't include the original DLC unless sales hit 10 million copies—an unlikely threshold. According to industry insider Tom Henderson on the Insider Gaming podcast, Ubisoft internally describes this project as "a gem in the mud," suggesting a troubled development cycle.

The second remake's identity remains speculation. The original Assassin's Creed feels too dated, while Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood draw the most fan requests. Ubisoft recently canceled 6 projects that failed to meet quality standards, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. Pushing two remakes at once signals either a cash grab or lingering confidence in the IP.

Ubisoft is restructuring into 5 creative centers, a move that typically means resource consolidation and project culling. Black Flag's survival suggests naval combat still holds appeal. If the second remake turns out to be Assassin's Creed II, that's worth watching. But given Ubisoft's current state, meeting the release date would be achievement enough.
