“Hundreds of songs and high-difficulty charts anchor this veteran rhythm title, wrapped in polished stage performances and deep customization.”

編集部の総評

Is this game worth the dozens, even scores of hours? Yes, on one condition: that you know why you came. That caveat is not a hedge. It is the single most important sentence in this entire review, because Mega Mix+ rewards a specific kind of player generously and quietly disappoints everyone else.

What it will not give you

If what you want is an innovation-driven rhythm game, this cannot supply that answer. The core mechanics lean traditional, and the mode expansion is not what anyone would call dazzling. Viewed today and set beside peers like Groove Coaster, its design language is clearly more conservative. Held up against series predecessor Project DIVA F, the continuity is strong and the degree of change is limited. You will play it smoothly, but you are unlikely to be lit up by anything new at the systems level. Going in expecting a reinvention is the surest way to come away cold. It is important to separate that from a verdict of laziness, because the game is not lazy. It is polished, coherent and confident about what it is. The conservatism is a deliberate stance rather than a failure of effort, and once you stop measuring it against the rhythm games that are trying to break new ground, the disappointment evaporates and what remains is a very well-built version of an old idea, executed with care.

What it does give you, and gives well

On the other side, it is genuinely strong exactly where it most needs to be: the catalog, the stage performance, the character charm, and that one-more-song stickiness that turns a quick try into a long night. It is not an elaborately structured French dinner. It is more like the late-night ramen shop you keep returning to. The menu does not change daily, but the flavor is consistent, and when you are in the mood, this is the thing you want. That reliability is underrated. Plenty of flashier games burn bright and then sit untouched, while this one earns a permanent spot in the rotation precisely because it never overreaches. It always delivers the same dependable satisfaction, and over a long enough span that consistency is worth more than novelty ever was.

Consider that the release is now more than five years old. Looked at today, what has actually held up against time is not the technical showing and not the narrative structure, because there barely is one. It is the content organization and the unified, integrated audiovisual performance. That is a telling result, and it explains why a game this old still feels alive in a way many flashier titles from the same era do not.

The verdict, split by audience

So my conclusion is simple. Fans should buy in without hesitation. Newcomers should first confirm whether they actually like vocaloid and old-school rhythm play. If you do, you can get a very long run out of this. If you do not, you may be done within a couple of hours, and no amount of polish will change that.

Come for the setlist and the stage. Do not come for innovation. That is the whole game in a sentence, and the strong Steam reception along with the broad praise for its standard mode only reinforces the point. Judged as the thing it is actually trying to be, a vocaloid performance collection wrapped around a deep, replayable catalog, it succeeds, and it succeeds in a way that has aged far better than its conservative reputation would suggest. The split verdict is not a cop-out; it is the only honest way to score a game this clearly aimed at a particular audience. For the right player, this is an easy, enthusiastic recommendation that will quietly eat dozens of hours. For the wrong player, no score I could assign would change the fact that it is simply not built for them. Knowing which one you are is worth more than any number, and if you have read this far with the setlist in mind rather than the next big mechanic, you already have your answer.
