On August 6, Bandai's beauty line Pon de Couleur announced that it will release an Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed multi-use makeup powder series in Japan on September 21. The compact case is shaped like the game’s cozy little house, leaning hard into collectibility as much as portability.

The hook is not a character face on the box, but the way the whole set is framed as a pocketable collectible. Each powder is about 42mm across, and every box comes with an exclusive “expression sticker” for decorating the outer case.

The lineup includes 12 shades, matched to 12 popular characters drawn from the game’s cast. They are split into three groups: “soul characters,” “popular islanders,” and “color leaders.” In practice, that puts character attachment ahead of pure cosmetic function.

If you already collect Animal Crossing merchandise, this reads more like a collector item than an everyday makeup staple. The 42mm size naturally suits a bag, but anyone buying for the shades alone should think carefully about how often they’ll actually use it.

It also points to where Nintendo IP is going. The expansion is no longer limited to games, but is moving into everyday categories such as home goods, cosmetics, and storage items. For creators and fans alike, the real question is not whether it works on the face, but whether the franchise’s emotional pull can transfer to objects people handle every day.
