Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag Memory Reset May Be Coming to Switch 2, Pending Confirmation

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Memory Reset is described as Ubisoft's modern remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and it is reportedly set to launch on July 9 with Chinese voice support. Independent journalist Kiwi Talkz recently posted cover art for a Switch 2 version of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Memory Reset, suggesting the remake may also be headed to Nintendo's new hardware, though there is still no official confirmation.

The rumor has traction for obvious reasons. Black Flag is still one of Ubisoft's most popular older games, and interest in Switch 2 is already high. A portable version also makes immediate sense on paper: naval combat, stealth, and open-sea exploration are the kind of mix that fits a handheld well. If the report is accurate, Ubisoft could end up bringing one of its most durable action-adventure games to Nintendo's new system.

But cover art is not confirmation. What Kiwi Talkz shared was an image, and the article is clear that the Switch 2 version currently rests on insider claims rather than any official announcement. Anyone tracking launch platforms should treat this as a rumor for now, not a confirmed release plan.

The firmer update comes from the game's post-launch plans. In a YouTube interview with JorRaptor, game director Richard Knight said the team is actively developing New Game Plus, and that it ranks among the highest-priority items on the current update list. That is a meaningful addition for returning players, because Black Flag is exactly the kind of game that benefits from a second run with progression systems in play. Builds, stealth choices, and ship combat all tend to land differently when replay support is there.

Knight also said the work carries less risk because Assassin's Creed Shadows already has a mature underlying framework for New Game Plus. That does not mean the mode is close to release, but it does mean the team is not starting from zero. Right now, New Game Plus is still in early development, and the developers are not ready to give a firm release window. For now, it makes more sense to view it as a later update than a launch feature.

As things stand, two groups have the most reason to watch this closely. One is new players who missed the 2013 original and want a more polished way into one of the better-regarded Assassin's Creed games. The other is returning players who already finished the original and are curious about the remake's updates, including Chinese voice support. As for anyone waiting specifically on Switch 2, the cautious reading remains the right one: it is still unconfirmed until Ubisoft says otherwise.

Chinese voice support and a July 9 launch make this rumor feel more specific than usual, but I still need Ubisoft to say the Switch 2 version is real before I buy in.

If New Game Plus really is a high-priority post-July 9 update, I hope they rebalance progression around it instead of just carrying over gear and calling it done.

Agreed, NG+ only works if they retune the economy and upgrades for a second run; since the Switch 2 version is still unconfirmed, I’m waiting to see how that July 9 launch lands first.
