Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Remaster Flopped? Players Complain It Looks Like Plastic Toys

I saw the trailer for Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Memory Reset on the subway, and I was pretty excited at first, but after watching it I was completely stunned. What's going on with these visuals? The color saturation is cranked up like a level-ten beauty filter. The realistic feel of the Caribbean from the original is completely gone, and instead it looks like playing with plastic toys.

Ubisoft used a rendering pipeline similar to Assassin's Creed: Shadows this time, and that's where the problem lies. The shadow contrast has been weakened, and the whole image looks greasy with a cartoonish feel. Some players joked that although Skull and Bones flopped, its cursed filter and light pollution have been resurrected in the remaster. It's a harsh comment, but it really hits the nail on the head.

Actually, this is exactly what remakes fear most—the technology gets upgraded, but the essence changes. The ocean texture in the original Black Flag was genuinely comfortable, that feeling of sunlight spilling across the water's surface. Now it's all covered up by oversaturated colors. Players want clearer graphics, not more eye-piercing colors.

That said, this is only an 11-second leaked clip, so it's hard to say whether the official version will be adjusted. At the global reveal showcase in the early morning of April 24th, Ubisoft should provide a more complete demonstration. If it still looks like this by then, I'll really have to consider whether to buy it. After all, the point of a remaster is to make a classic better, not turn it into a different game.

The player community is already in an uproar, with some saying Ubisoft is ruining a classic, while others think it might be a trailer compression issue. My personal suggestion is to wait and see the official version. If the visuals are still like this, you might as well go back and play the original—at least that one has the right feel.
