Crimson Desert Gets Update 1.06 Just 10 Days Later, Finally Fixing Key Issues
Crimson Desert got its 1.06 update on Steam on May 11, 2026, with the new patch arriving less than 10 days after 1.05. In its official Steam announcement, the game confirmed a new special mount system and an "Extract" feature, while also adding unarmed skills for Ongka, sword scabbards, and a broad batch of optimizations and bug fixes spanning combat, controls, UI, and graphics settings.

In this kind of action game, fast updates do not automatically mean the right updates. With Crimson Desert 1.06, though, the direction looks more promising than a routine numbers patch. The special mount system points toward stronger world interaction rather than another narrow tweak to the combat loop. After raising affinity with certain animals, players can turn them into mounts, which gives the feature more presence than a simple menu unlock would.
The real value of any mount system in this genre depends on whether it fits naturally into the map, resources, and overall pacing. Right now, the official details only confirm that the feature exists. It is still hard to say why riding these animals will matter beyond the novelty of being able to do it. By comparison, the new "Extract" function looks like the more immediately useful change, because it directly reduces progression friction by letting players recover materials spent on gear tempering.

Looked at another way, the jump from 1.05 to 1.06 in under 10 days feels very much like a PC-style push to capture the feedback window early. Steam players are usually practical about games like this: new content matters, but polish in controls, UI, and graphics settings often has a bigger effect on word of mouth. The announcement says this round of fixes covers game content, combat and actions, controls, UI, and graphics settings, which at least suggests the developers understand where players are getting stuck.
On the character side, Ongka getting new unarmed skills, along with additions like scabbards for one-handed and two-handed swords, is not a massive overhaul. Put together with the two headline features, though, the intent is fairly clear. The patch expands gameplay, adds a bit more immersion, and keeps cleaning up the foundation. Compared with updates that amount to little more than a list of balance values, this is the kind of patch that feels like it is gradually finishing the game’s skeleton.
From a broader player perspective, this sort of frequent hotfix-style cadence on Steam is usually a positive sign. Whether it is enough to justify jumping back in depends on two things next: whether the mount-and-animal-affinity system goes beyond a surface-level feature, and whether Extract meaningfully eases the frustration of progression. If you are still undecided on Crimson Desert, the better move right now is to check the full patch notes in the official Steam announcement before deciding whether to start. If you are already playing, 1.06 at least looks like a version with a visible direction, not just routine maintenance.
