FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH169GB Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Coming to Switch 2 - Are You Ready?
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth lands on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox on June 3, 2026, and Square Enix isn't hiding what you're getting. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the Switch 2 build runs a dynamic resolution pipeline paired with DLSS Super Resolution, scaling between 672×380 and 1344×756 in handheld mode, and up to 1920×1080 docked—both locked at 30 fps. The Xbox version demands 169.36 GB, making it one of the largest RPGs ever shipped on that platform. I'd give this rollout a 7/10.
The transparency is honestly refreshing. Square Enix laid out the numbers before launch rather than letting players discover them post-download. That dynamic resolution plus DLSS combo isn't exactly novel—it's been around since the PS4 era, and Square Enix's own Final Fantasy XV Switch port tried it with embarrassing results. The difference now is that the technology has actually matured. You won't get a muddy blur at the low end of that resolution range; the upscaling handles it.
The 30 fps lock, though, is where things get complicated. I'm not saying 30 fps is unplayable—the original Final Fantasy VII ran at 30 fps on PS1 and people finished it fine. But this is a 2024 AAA action RPG appearing on a console in 2026, and the handheld and dock modes share the same frame rate ceiling. That docked mode has spare horsepower sitting there unused. Meanwhile, the PS5 version runs at 60 fps. If you own a PS5 and have been waiting for this port, the performance drop is steep. Whether that matters depends entirely on how much you value playing on Switch 2 versus playing at a higher frame rate.
The Xbox installation size has already sparked chatter. 169.36 GB is roughly triple the size of Final Fantasy XIII on disc (25 GB) and nearly three times the Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Edition (around 60 GB). Graphics have improved, yes—but players still running consoles with 500 GB of internal storage are going to feel the squeeze. Square Enix at least had the courtesy to open Xbox pre-loads early, so you can clear space now if you need it.
The core strategy here is obvious: trade resolution and fluidity for portability. If you're okay with handheld play at 720p-class resolution and 30 fps, the Switch 2 version is a legitimate option. If 60 fps is a hard requirement for you, wait for the PC version or keep your PS5. Either way, Square Enix has been upfront about the trade-offs. June 3—decide accordingly.
