Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet Is Still in Development as Motion Capture Continues
Naughty Dog’s PS5 exclusive Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet still appears to be some way off. In a recent interview, actor Tati Gabrielle said her motion-capture work on the game is not finished yet, while also confirming that she plays Jordan A. Mun.
One detail stands out immediately: “Mun” is not just a cool sci-fi surname. Gabrielle explicitly said that “Mun” is a traditional Korean last name. That small choice does a lot of work. Instead of explaining a character through a wall of lore, it anchors Jordan A. Mun’s background through the name itself, which is often a more effective way to make a character feel specific.

Gabrielle also said that she and Jordan A. Mun are both Black Korean. That is more than a side note from a casting interview, because it shapes how players are likely to read the character from the outset. Naughty Dog’s stronger character work has never been about reducing people to labels, but about turning identity markers into fully realized individuals. If the studio can properly fuse that background with the game’s space setting, the result could feel restrained in the way Return of the Obra Dinn handles narrative information, while still giving the character the immediate presence that Life is Strange is so good at.

The bigger takeaway, though, is the state of development. Gabrielle has publicly said that her motion-capture work is still unfinished, which strongly suggests the project is still actively moving forward and not yet in a final sprint. On a major production, unfinished mo-cap usually means plenty of performance work, cinematics, and possibly parts of the narrative are still being adjusted. Anyone already trying to lock in a release window should probably lower expectations for now and avoid assuming it is a sure thing for this year.

That kind of update is reassuring and frustrating in equal measure for anyone waiting on actual gameplay. It confirms the game has not stalled and that the team is still building it, but it also makes clear there is still a meaningful stretch between where the project is now and the point where players can actually get their hands on it. Especially with a studio like Naughty Dog, which has never seemed interested in showing off something that it does not consider properly polished.

For players who care most about story and character work, this is basically neutral-to-positive news. At the very least, it suggests Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is still putting serious effort into character building and performance rather than coasting on concept art alone. But if your interest is mainly in where this PS5 exclusive fits on the release calendar, the smarter move is to wait and watch for official materials, especially gameplay footage and more character details. A strong concept is only the opening spark; what really determines the final result is how precisely it all lands in the finished game.
