Capcom Won't Release a Native Version, Mac Players Take Matters Into Their Own Hands! M4 Max Running Resident Evil: Requiem at 90 FPS Early On – Real Test Results

Resident Evil: Requiem launched to explosive reception on PC, not only breaking the series' all-time Steam concurrent player record, but also prompting Apple Silicon Mac users — despite lacking native support — to start running their own tests.

Capcom has not released a native port for M-series chips, but that hasn't stopped players. Reddit user oyskionline shared benchmark results from an M4 Max MacBook Pro (14-core CPU, 32-core GPU): after some parameter tuning, the game's early scenes ran at approximately 90 FPS.

In terms of specific settings, the user enabled AMD FSR3 upscaling (Balanced mode) with frame generation, set the graphics preset to High, and used an internal render resolution of 1800×1169. The trade-off was that the system consumed nearly all 16GB of the M4 Max's unified memory, while high-demand options like ray tracing had to be fully disabled.

It's worth noting that early-game scenes are typically the most GPU-intensive. As players progress into interior environments, frame rates tend to improve noticeably. The M4 Max itself comes with 36GB of unified memory, leaving some headroom, but Mac users with lower memory configurations will face greater compromises.

This title is extremely demanding on GPU performance — even on PC, maxed-out settings are a hardware killer. How it performs on chips like the M4 Pro and M5 remains to be seen.
