Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake collector's edition crashes 68% as statue quality forces clearance sale
Konami's official store slashed the Metal Gear Solid 3 Collector's Edition from $199.99 to $79.99—down to $63.99 with discount codes—months after launch with massive unsold inventory still sitting in warehouses.

The remake itself holds up. The Snake statue doesn't. Promo shots showed dense foliage detail; the actual product arrived with crossed eyes, sloppy paint, and a cheaper base. Community backlash was immediate: "This quality doesn't justify $200." Classic product photography deception, worse than budget third-party figures.

Konami's 60% markdown is damage control—better to liquidate than let stock rot. The bundle includes the digital deluxe edition, replica arm patches, and an art book, which at $63.99 represents fair value. But the statue was the flagship item, and its failure tanked the entire product's reputation.

Player sentiment on Reddit and Steam forums skews toward regret: "Should've just bought standard edition." Some suggest Konami sell the peripherals separately and drop the statue entirely—a reasonable fix, since MGS fans want screen-accurate collectibles, not rushed desk clutter. The current price gives fence-sitters an entry point, assuming you can tolerate a cross-eyed Snake on your shelf.

If you planned to buy the digital deluxe edition anyway (typically $40-50), spending an extra $15-20 for the full package makes sense. If the statue was your draw, wait for third-party manufacturers to produce higher-quality replicas. Konami's execution here doesn't match the Metal Gear IP's standards.
