FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has responded to recent reports that some investors want KADOKAWA Corporation to lean more heavily on sequels and established IP, telling Den Faminico Gamer that he only knows what has already been reported publicly and cannot comment in depth. His clearer point was this: in his view, FromSoftware can still make the games it wants without excessive interference, even as some investors in parent company KADOKAWA Corporation reportedly want the business to lean harder on sequels and established IP to reduce risk and improve performance.
That point about creative freedom is the real story here. For a studio like FromSoftware, known for taking risks and regularly trying new ideas across Elden Ring and the Dark Souls series, the bigger question is not simply whether another sequel happens. It is whether the team still has room to keep surprising people.

The backdrop is straightforward. According to reports, some investors in KADOKAWA Corporation want the company to rely more on sequels and established IP in the future, with the goal of lowering risk and improving performance. From a business perspective, the logic is easy to understand. From a creative one, it raises the usual concern: lean on the same proven structure too often, and even polished work can start to feel stale.
Miyazaki's response was notably restrained. He stressed that his comments reflected only his personal view, not the company's official position. He also said he is broadly satisfied with FromSoftware's current development environment. While he believes there is still room for improvement, he sees one of the most important priorities going forward as preserving an environment where the team can focus as much as possible on game development itself.
That matters because Miyazaki framed this environment as essential not just for him personally, but for FromSoftware as a whole. In his view, maintaining that kind of production culture is a major reason the studio has been able to make its current games. Put more plainly, the message to players is that FromSoftware has not, at least for the moment, been fully locked into a "sequels only" mindset.
Even for players who are not deeply invested in action RPGs, the concern is familiar enough. A studio that only tries to replicate past hits may still produce something recognizable, but not necessarily something fresh. That creative space, even when it produces something demanding or odd, is often what gives a game its identity.

Miyazaki also made a direct promise to players. He said FromSoftware will work harder than ever and continue creating games with real value. That applies not only to projects already announced, but to unannounced ones as well, and he said he hopes players will keep looking forward to them.
For longtime FromSoftware fans, that is probably the most reassuring part of the interview. The immediate sequel question matters, of course, but the more important issue is whether the studio's next game can still deliver that sense of surprise, the feeling that it is trying something distinctive rather than simply shipping another iteration of the same thing.
