Solarpunk ソーラーパンク:天空の島Fetching price~ ¥2,898After 1 Million Wishlists, Is Solarpunk Worth the Hype?
Sunkenpunk: Floating Island Homestead launched on June 8, 2026, from German indie studio Cyberwave, and had already posted unusually strong pre-release numbers. By all accounts, the game was built by a core team of just 2 people, has passed 1 million Steam wishlists, stayed firmly inside Steam's top 20 most wishlisted games, and saw its demo downloaded more than 500,000 times during Steam Next Fest. It is now available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions planned later.
That matters because it clarifies what the game is aiming for. Sunkenpunk: Floating Island Homestead is not trying to be a high-pressure survival game. It feels more like a second-generation, lighter take on the build-and-survive formula, folding farming, automation, exploration, and co-op into something cleaner and easier to approach. Reaching more than 1 million wishlists before launch and holding a place in Steam's top 20 suggests players already know exactly what kind of game this is.

From a design standpoint, the clearest hook is the renewable-energy framework rather than the floating islands themselves. Players can power facilities through solar, wind, and hydro energy, which gives its resource loops and home management more internal logic than a simple generator reskin would. Add automation systems that can handle resource gathering and crop irrigation, and the focus is clearly on making day-to-day play smoother rather than constantly pressuring players with hunger meters and punishment mechanics.

Just as important, exploration revolves around airships. Players can construct and modify their own airships, then use them to travel between floating islands in search of resources. That adds a layer of mobile-base management beyond the usual on-foot map expansion, and it suits the cloud-top homestead fantasy. Support for solo play and online co-op for up to 4 players also broadens the audience: solo players can treat it as a slower management game, while groups can split up automation duties and island runs more efficiently.

For this kind of game, the real test is not how novel the pitch sounds, but whether its systems can sustain a stable loop. A 2-person core team shipping something this broad reflects well on the project's discipline. At the same time, small-team games also tend to lean harder on post-launch support, especially in areas like online stability, automation logic, and the density of mid- to late-game content. The demo passing 500,000 downloads during Steam Next Fest means early visibility was already there; the full release now has to answer a practical question: can those huge wishlist numbers convert into lasting word of mouth?

The recommendation here is straightforward. If you mainly want high-pressure survival, combat-driven progression, or a strong narrative push, Sunkenpunk: Floating Island Homestead probably should not be your first pick. But if you are looking for a calm building-survival game that works both solo and with friends, the current package looks solid. This is not a genre-redefining flagship. It looks more like a well-positioned niche product with clear cost control and a clear audience, one worth watching at launch and over the course of its updates if "cozy survival building" is exactly what you want.
