007 First Light reveals its first DLC, but the free update may matter more

IO Interactive used Summer Game Fest 2026 to formally reveal 007 First Light's first story DLC, Bawma Will Return, and to confirm that the game's entire first year of updates will be free. The Bond action title is already available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, sold more than 2.7 million copies in its first week, and is still slated to arrive on Switch 2 later this year.

The more interesting part is the support plan behind it. Instead of carving up a season pass into paid chunks, IO is pitching 007 First Light as a game with real post-launch support. The first story add-on centers on Bawma, who already appeared in the base game and is played by Lenny Kravitz. In this new chapter, he returns as the ruler of Aleph and personally asks James Bond for help.

The teaser itself reveals very little. That's not unusual for an early teaser. The article suggests that this mission may be tied to Harmony, the sister Bawma has been searching for over many years, while MI6 is said to know her whereabouts. For now, IO is keeping the actual shape of the mission under wraps.

For players weighing this against other narrative action games, the bigger point is whether that "first-year content all free" promise holds up. The roadmap already confirms new TacSim tactical simulation challenges, new gear, a New Game+ mode, and a photo mode. That's a solid package for anyone who wants reasons to stick with the game after the campaign.

The platform rollout also says something about how IO expects people to play it. On PC, repeated TacSim runs and challenge replays may be a bigger draw, while PS5 and Xbox Series players may get more out of New Game+ and photo mode on a second run. Anyone waiting for the Switch 2 version may actually be in the better position. By the time that release lands later this year, both the base game's reputation and the delivery of its first-year updates will likely be much clearer.

That first-week result of 2.7 million copies also suggests 007 First Light is not relying on Bond branding alone. For a licensed game, that's enough to show players are willing to buy into IO's Bond universe. Whether that momentum holds, though, will depend on whether those free updates arrive steadily and in line with the roadmap. What matters now is steady follow-through, not a clean-looking roadmap.
