Assassin’s Creed® IV Black Flag™PS5 Sales for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Memory Reset Top 1.7 Million, Awaiting Official Confirmation
Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Remake reportedly sold more than 1.7 million copies on PS5 in July, according to estimates from Alinea Analytics, and Ubisoft has not confirmed the figure. Alinea's number is sell-through: copies that reached consumers, not retail stock sitting in stores or warehouses. That distinction matters because publishers such as Ubisoft usually report shipments, which can include unsold inventory.

A remake moving 1.7 million units on a single console in one month is not just nostalgia. It is a sign that Ubisoft's back catalog still has commercial muscle, and that PS5 is carrying the launch. The revenue figure makes the scale sharper: Alinea estimates the remake generated $109 million on PS5 in July alone, outpacing Steam and Xbox combined. That gap makes the release a crucial win for Ubisoft and PlayStation the clear sales engine of the launch.

There is another practical detail. Of the PS5 copies sold in July, physical discs accounted for more than one quarter. In a market that keeps pushing players toward digital libraries, that is not a throwaway split. Plenty of people still wanted this particular release on a shelf.
The age profile helps explain why. The main audience, according to the analysis, clusters between 28 and 40. That group has stronger disposable income than it once did, but less free time to gamble with. For those players, buying a familiar adventure is a much easier decision than betting on an unknown new IP. It is not that they no longer want risk. It is that the evenings are shorter.
The overlap with other old names is even more telling. Among players who played Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Remake in July, 17% also played the port of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 that same month, while 8% played the port of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1. The same generation that grew up around the 2012 era of games is now choosing a 2013 remake and 2010/2012 ports in the same window.
That is why classic remakes are a steadier bet than pure nostalgia. Players know what they are getting. They also know where that world is likely to take them back.

As a buying recommendation, the PS5 version is clearly the most reliable choice in this wave if you already know Black Flag. If you are only trying to catch up, waiting for more platform pricing and optimization feedback is the more measured option.
The old test for a remake still holds: does this world make you want to stay inside it? On atmosphere alone, Black Flag still gives players a reason to linger.
