FromSoftware's Veto: Bloodborne Remake Stillborn, the Story Behind Bluepoint's Exit

According to a recent report by journalist Jason Schreier, Bluepoint Games pitched a Bloodborne remake to Sony in early 2025, but the proposal was ultimately blocked by FromSoftware's refusal.

At the time, Bluepoint had just come off a cancelled God of War live-service spin-off project and was urgently seeking its next direction. Sony's internal assessment of the Bloodborne remake pitch was not unfavorable — it was reportedly deemed "justifiable from a data standpoint," and Sony expressed interest. However, original developer FromSoftware's rejection brought the project to an end before formal development could begin.

The news corroborates former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida's earlier speculation: Hidetaka Miyazaki does not wish to see Bloodborne remade by others, and may intend to handle it himself someday — though scheduling has never allowed for it.

After the Bloodborne pitch fell through, Bluepoint went on to propose an updated version of the Shadow of the Colossus remake and a Ghost of Tsushima spin-off, both of which were also rejected by Sony. This month, the studio — renowned in the industry for its high-quality remakes — was officially shut down by Sony.

Meanwhile, FromSoftware is currently developing The Duskbloods, a vampire-themed title for Nintendo Switch 2. Bloodborne fans may have to keep waiting — if that day ever comes at all.
