Fabledom hits all-time low at $2.66 — 200 cards will keep you calculating for days

A base-building game that forces you to stare at card combos for three minutes every turn is either overdesigned or genuinely deep. Farthest Frontier just hit a historic 50% off at ¥19, and I think strategy players should take a look—it mashes together tower defense, roguelike, and deck-building, which sounds messy, but the system design at least doesn't waste any of its mechanics.

The core loop works like this: you use cards to build town facilities, each card produces resources or handles defense, then enemies attack at month's end and you survive based on your prior layout and strategy combos. Over 200 cards means the combination space is substantial, and since starting hands and draw order vary each run, you're constantly adjusting build priorities and defensive tactics. The pixel art doesn't bother me—strategic depth is what matters, and this game delivers a reasonably solid decision tree.

The problem is the tower defense AI disappoints. Enemy attack routes are too predictable; after a few runs you've mapped the patterns, and late game becomes repeating your proven optimal solution. This predictability undermines the randomness challenge that roguelikes need, and it devalues the deck-building—when you know exactly which path enemies take, maybe only 50 of those 200 cards actually matter.

From a value standpoint, ¥19 for a strategy game that'll occupy you for a dozen hours isn't bad. If you're the type who obsesses over tech trees in Civilization or calculates unit counters in Total War, the early experience will satisfy you. Just don't expect it to keep you grinding for hundreds of hours like Slay the Spire—it has depth, but replayability falls short. This sale is part of Gamersky's publisher promotion featuring 100+ discounted games, so if you're already stocking up on indies, adding this one makes sense.
