Tencent formally unveiled Crossfire at the 2026 Crossfire IP Carnival, billing it as the CF IP’s first AAA buy-to-own, narrative-driven single-player game. Co-developed by That’s No Moon and Smilegate, the game will be published globally by Tencent Interactive Entertainment’s K1 Cooperation Department and Smilegate. Reservations are now open on WeGame, Steam, and Epic, with PlayStation and Xbox Series X|S versions also planned. Tencent says a release date will be announced later.

This is not being positioned as a simple spin-off. With 18 years of history and 40 million monthly active users still attached to the brand, Tencent is clearly trying to prove that CF can be more than a familiar set of firefights, and that it can support a broader story-driven world.

Tencent’s gameplay pitch is clearer: a third-person tactical stealth shooter built in Unreal Engine 5, centered on an adaptive cover system and stealth-first play. That points to something closer to a tactical sandbox, where observation, cover, and timing matter more than spraying bullets and hoping for the best.

That positioning also makes the game look more complementary to CF and CFHD than directly competitive with them. Longtime players get an origin story inside a familiar IP, while newcomers get a buy-to-own single-player entry point that does not ask them to keep up with the pace and pressure of a live-service shooter.

This game features two opposing mercenaries forced into an uneasy alliance to survive a deadly threat, blending tactical freedom with intense combat in a cinematic adventure.

The story follows Leila Kasem and Delroy Cross, two agents from opposing factions, which suggests a focus on faction conflict and character dynamics rather than simply adding more weapons. Reservation rewards are live as well: players who reserve during the carnival can claim gift packs for CF, CFM, and CFHD. The question now is whether the game can make stealth, cover, and narrative feel meaningfully fresh within the CF formula.
